The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development (2030 Agenda), adopted by the United Nations in September 2015, is the international communitys response to global challenges and trends in connection with sustainable development. Alain Locke is most known for his involvement in the Harlem Renaissance. However, he received his PhD in philosophy from Harvard University in 1918, and produced a very large corpus of philosophical work. His work shows him to have been a sophisticated philosopher who thought through practical and theoretical problems regarding the nature of cosmopolitanism, democracy, race, value, religion, art, and education. Although Lockes philosophical work has been discussed in parts, there has been no theorizing about how his different philosophical commitments fit together. In this book Corey L. Barnes begins to systematize Lockes philosophical thought, showing how his democratic theory, philosophy of race, and value theory are connected to and undergirded by a commitment to cosmopolitanism. In so doing, Barnes unearths aspects of Lockes thought for example, his econothinking thatthat have not been accorded attention and reimagines parts of his work about which have been theorized, all while bringing Locke into current debates about each subject.

Gillian Hannum is Professor Emerita of Visual Studies and Art History at Manhattanville College in Purchase, New York, where she served on the faculty from 1987 to 2021. A photographic historian with M.A. and Ph.D. degrees from The Pennsylvania State University, she has published on photographic topics in the Journal of the Royal Photographic Society, History of Photography, and Nineteenth Century, has contributed to several books and exhibition catalogs, and has presented papers or chaired panels at a number of conferences. Kyunghee Pyun is Associate Professor of History of Art at the Fashion Institute of Technology, State University of New York. She wrote Fashion, Identity, Power in Modern Asia (Palgrave Macmillan, 2018) and will publish School Uniforms in East Asia: Fashioning Statehood and Self in 2022. As an independent curator, she has collaborated with contemporary artists for exhibitions such as Violated Bodies: New Languages for Justice and Humanity. Pyun co-edited Interpreting Modernism in Korean Art: Fluidity and Fragmentation (Routledge, 2021) and American Art in Asia: Artistic Praxis and Theoretical Divergence (Routledge, 2022).

Specifically, the claim that Deleuzes Logic of Sense provides a convincing answer for the most important question of the history of philosophy regarding the relation between thought and existence as well as the relation between logic and ontology is defended. The answer is that if thought is related to existence, logic is supposed to be, not the logic of essence, but rather the logic of sense. This analysis s pursued respectively through Deleuzes readings of Frege, the ancient Stoics, Lewis Carroll, Kant, Lautman, Leibniz, and Melanie Klein.

The Socratic method of questioning and refutation (elenchus) predominates the early Platonic dialogues. The standard explanation of this phenomenon is that the early dialogues were intended to commemorate Socrates and the elenchus, while in the middle and late dialogues Plato went beyond Socrates to present his own mature philosophical thought. Presidential Rhetoric and Indian Policy explores and analyses the dynamics of presidential rhetoric on Native peoples and issues from Nixon to the present. Covering Presidents Washington through Johnson in an overview before turning to focus on the modern era of self-determination, Anne Flaherty offers a systematic analysis of 700 presidential statements that mention Native issues from 1969 through 2020 to evaluate whether presidents in the modern era have used their rhetorical platforms to bring attention to Native issues and to support this coherent strategy of self-determination. Flaherty provides evidence that rhetorical themes vary by administration and seem to either rely on more symbolic, historical language or to connect more clearly to the dominant platforms and messages of the president in question. The book then moves to incorporate an analysis of key outcomes compared across the administrations. The data and analysis show that federal spending, legislative outcomes, and Supreme Court decisions have not consistently supported self-determination policy over the past 50 years. "This book examines the relationship between several of the most prominent American biblical archaeologists and Zionism. While these scholars have been studied and historicized to some extent, little work has been done to understand their role in the history of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict. Two defining differences in the archaeologists' arguments were their understanding of culture and their views on objectivity versus relativism. Brooke Sherrard Knorr argues that relativist archaeologists envisioned the ancient world as replete with cultural change and opposed the establishment of a Jewish state, while those who believed in scholarly objectivity both envisioned the ancient world's ethnic boundaries as rigid and favored Zionism. Combining readings of the archaeologists' writings with archival research, this book studies the views of William Foxwell Albright, Millar Burrows, Nelson Glueck, George Ernest Wright, Paul Lapp, and William G. Dever regarding the establishment of an ethno-national state in Palestine in detail.
