PurposeSocial enterprise in New Zealand is still in its infancy, with no recognised framework to inform knowledge of current or future developments. In this exploratory paper, the aim is to consider four influences which are shaping the development of social enterprise in New Zealand.Design/methodology/approachA critical‐appreciative lens utilising Habermas' concepts of the lifeworld and system informs the consideration of these influences.FindingsFour distinct cultural and historical influences are proposed as contributing to the scope and "flavour" of social enterprise developing in New Zealand: socio‐cultural norms, e.g. "Kiwi ingenuity"; the neoliberal reforms initiated by successive governments during the 1980s; Crown settlements in relation to breaches of the principles of 1840 Treaty of Waitangi; New Zealanders' as international citizens.Originality/valueThe paper shows how feedback and dialogue across the sectors, at local, national and international levels, is now required to determine how other scholars, practitioners and policy makers perceive this proposed initial framework.

Social identity theory proposes that much of our identity, attitudes, beliefs, and even our behaviors are grounded in groups that we affiliate with, or groups that are important to us. The groups (e.g. class, sports team, religion, family) which we belong to are an important source of pride, self-esteem, and identity. Additionally, the groups that we are a part of gives us a sense of social identity - a sense of belonging to the social world. The sociology of social movements has often drawn a fine line between individualistic "lifestyle movements" and more politically oriented collective action. Yet, this distinction belies the fact that seemingly individualistic movements can generate cognitive maps and associational ties necessary for wider mobilization. Drawing on a qualitative study of the Indian men's feminist movement Men's Action to Stop Violence against Women (MASVAW), we examine how an ostensibly individualistically oriented lifestyle movement can create the potential for collective action through forging social networks of like-minded individuals who can draw on local knowledge of specific situations to quickly mobilize their peers. Through this, we contribute to the literature on social movement networks by synthesizing theorizing on lifestyle movements with theorizing on activist social networks, demonstrating how networks can shift movements between different modes of coordination, from individualistic and everyday to collective and activist.

At the end of the 20th – the beginning of the 21st century there were serious changes in the poetics of drama, defining the strategy of artistic forms and features of artistic consciousness. This gives the right to single out the history of the "new drama" in a separate period of the literary and theatrical process. A new book by the Belarusian researcher S.Ya. Goncharova-Grabovskaya "Modern Russian Dramaturgy (late 20th – early 21st century)" is devoted to generalization and comprehension of this period, which is considered and announced in the presented review. The book examines the main trends in the development of the Russian drama at the turn of the 20-21st centuries: the history of the emergence of the "new drama" movement, aspects of poetics (hero, conflict, chronotope, language), genre-style vector (social drama, documentary drama, monodrama, remake plays, drama of the absurd) – all that defines the specific features of the modern dramaturgical process. The focus is on the plays of famous playwrights, which have been staged in theaters in Russia and Belarus, have received positive reviews in criticism. The peculiarity of the reviewed book is that it analyzes modern Belarusian drama, traces its connection with the Russian. The book includes overview chapters reflecting the genre and style parameters of drama, a list of plays, information about playwrights, control questions and assignments. The scientific and methodological publication under review is expected to be in high demand not only in the philological environment, but also among theater critics and theater historians.

This collection explores the intersection of gender and mobility across the Global Middle Ages. Medieval Mobilities questions how medieval people, texts, images, and ideas move across physiological, geographical, literary, and spiritual boundaries. In what ways do these movements afford new configurations of gender, sexuality, and being? Enacting a dialogue between medieval studies, feminist thought, and queer theory, Medieval Mobilities proposes that attending to the undulations of premodern gender and sexuality may help destabilize unstated assumptions about ways of being and loving in the Middle Ages. This volume also brings together emergent and established scholars to challenge an increasingly static academy and instead envision a scholarly practice focused on intergenerational, international, and interdisciplinary collaboration. Drawing upon wide range of primary sources and theoretical frameworks, the resultant essays unsettle the imagined fixity of gender and propose alternative conceptualizations of embodiment, identity, and difference in the medieval world

This article focuses on the relationship between social movements and media landscapes prior to the emergence of the recent wave of mobilizations in Chile. Taking a historical overview, it provides an in-depth analysis of media, social and political issues, highlighting the implications and consequences of the marriage between neoliberalism and democracy for the Chilean public sphere and for the nature of the demands put forward by contemporary social movements. ; Este artículo invita a observar la relación entre los paisajes mediáticos y los movimientos sociales previos a la reciente ola de movilización en Chile. BY PEACE EDUCATION MOVEMENT THE AUTHOR MEAN A MOVEMENT OF PEACE EDUCATORS FROM THE BOTTOM UP IN LOCAL STRUGGLES OF STUDENTS AND TEACHERS AND LOCAL AUTHORITIES TO INTRODUCE TEACHING FOR PEACE BOTH INTO THE CURRICULA OF SCHOOLS AND IN WIDER PUBLIC EDUCATION ON PEACE ISSUES. THREE YEARS AGO THOSE WHO BECAME IDENTIFIED AS PEACE EDUCATORS WERE A PROPHETIC MINORITY - IN BRITAIN FOR EXAMPLE THE TERM WAS NOT WIDELY KNOWN. SINCE THEN, A NATIONAL NETWORK OF PEACE EDUCATORS HAS EMERGED AND THE SUBJECT HAS BEEN ATTACKED BY THE BRITISH GOVERNMENT, ESPECIALLY BY THE UNDER-SECRETARY OF STATE FOR EDUCATION. IN THE CONTEXT OF THE FALKLANDS WAR, AND A BELLICOSE FOREIGN POLICY, THIS IS HARDLY SURPRISING; BUT MORE INTERESTINGLY THE MASS INVOLVEMENT OF TEACHERS AND STUDENTS HAS THROWN UP NEW ISSUES, NEW PERSPECTIVES ON EDUCATING FOR PEACE, NEW DEBATES BETWEEN PEACE ACTION AND PEACE EDUCATION, AND GIVEN THE PROBLEM OF DISARMAMENT EDUCATION VERSUS PEACE EDUCATION A NEW PRACTICAL URGENCY AND 'BITE'.3

The Stockholm Conference 1972 drew the world's attention to the global environmental crisis. To the inhabitants of Sweden, however, this threat to the planet and to humanity was nothing new. Anyone who regularly read newspapers, listened to the radio, or watched the television news would have encountered the issues. Five years earlier, in the summer of 1967, things were very different. At that time, it was not at all self-evident that humans were in the process of destroying their own living environment. Hence, in a short period of time, a radical change took place: an 'environmental turn'. It had major and far-reaching consequences. But what was it that opened people's eyes to the environmental crisis? When did it happen? Who set the ball rolling? And what does this historical process mean for us today? David Larsson Heidenblad's book sheds new light on the emergence of modern environmentalism in Sweden and provides fresh insight to challenges that concerns us all.

This article explored the use of social media and mobile communication by women in Saudi Arabia who campaigned for the right to drive from 1990. Due to the globally unique ban on women driving in the Kingdom, females always needed a male driver to transport them. The Saudi government announced in September 2017 that women would be allowed to drive from June 2018. Using the theory of connective action, the article explored the role of social media in the movement for the right to drive, and looked at how activists used digital media platforms to get their messages across to the Saudi publics and the international community. Findings showed that both connective action and collective action offer tactics that can complement each other in an online movement. In addition, results offer in-depth insights about the role of identity in online movements. Threats to and limitations of online movements are also discussed.

A nations level of creativity in the fields of science and technology and knowledge and culture is the most potent determinant of the fate of a nation. nation's power, wealth and living standards of its people are determined by the breadth and depth of its intellectual assets, which include technology, information, knowledge and culture. A reservoir of the nation's intellectual assets relies on the learning capability and creativity of its people. Education plays the most vital role in developing a nation's intellectual power.
