Introduction. Modern discussions about free will are reduced to the confrontation between compatibilism and incompatibilism. The desire of the former to connect the free will of the individual with physical conditioning actualizes the problem of responsibility for the moral actions performed by the individual. Theoretical analysis. The main socio-philosophical reflections on liberty and responsibility in the context of the 17th century liberalism theory are analyzed. The concepts of T. Hobbes, J. Locke and B. Spinoza are interpreted through the prism of the rational justification of liberty, understanding the correlation between a person's choice and his actions. The paradigm of new thinking, created by liberal philosophers, made it possible to assess the meaning of freedom in a fundamentally different way – from the point of view of the interaction between an individual and society. A comparative analysis of the provisions on free will allows us to assert the aggravation of the problem of moral responsibility, caused by the rational awareness of free action criteria. Conclusion. The ideas of classical liberal-thinking philosophers acted as a theoretical foundation in the development of the compatibilism concept, the supporters of which associated freedom with necessity. Thus, we can talk about the continuity outlined back in antiquity – from freedom as a "cognized necessity" to its understanding as free will.

This study investigates the childfree lifestyle choice phenomenon in Malaysia, particularly within the framework of Islamic teachings as interpreted in "Tafsir Pedoman Muttaqin". Employing a qualitative approach, this research integrates qualitative analysis of religious texts and interviews with five Malaysian individuals. The study reveals that the decision to pursue a childfree life, influenced by factors such as individual freedom, economic considerations, and personal autonomy, contrasts with the interpretations of Islamic teachings on family and procreation. Key Islamic scriptures, notably QS Al-Baqarah: 187 and Al-Imran 14, underscore the significance of marital relations not solely for physical gratification but also for the purpose of producing righteous progeny. These findings illuminate a marked divergence between contemporary social trends and the traditional Islamic viewpoints on family and procreation in Malaysia. The study makes a significant contribution to academic discourse by presenting a unique perspective on how traditional Islamic interpretations shape attitudes toward contemporary lifestyle choices like childfree living. Additionally, it elucidates the intricate interplay of social, economic, and religious dynamics within Malaysian society. This research offers valuable insights that could inform policies and practices in reproductive health, education, and family counseling.

E. I. du Pont de Nemours & Co. is one of the world's largest chemical corporations, and its operations are of interest to business historians. This article explores the early history of the firm within the context of early republic political economy in order to show how it came to a place of prominence in the American gunpowder market by the early 1820s. The article utilizes the archival and printed records of DuPont, associated firms, government correspondence, and early War Department and trade statistics to show how the company, unlike other powder mills of that time, had access to both large reserves of foreign capitalandthe halls of power in the federal government. These resources helped DuPont become a principal supplier of gunpowder to the army, the navy, and a major exporter during the War of 1812 era.
