"Bis heute herrscht Uneinigkeit darüber, wie sich die europäische Integration auf nationale Interessenorganisationen und auf die Beziehungsmuster zwischen öffentlichen und privaten Akteuren auf der nationalen Ebene auswirkt. Während von manchen eine Auflösung nationaler korporatistischer Arrangements vorhergesagt wird, halten andere eine Stärkung korporatistischer Beziehungen auf der nationalen Ebene für wahrscheinlich. In dem Aufsatz kommt ein konzeptioneller Ansatz zur Anwendung, der institutionentheoretische Erklärungsansätze mit organisationstheoretischen Elementen anreichert. Dieses Vorgehen ermöglicht eine theoriegeleitete Darstellung der Wirkung der europäischen Integration auf sozio-politische Strukturen in den Mitgliedstaaten. Interessenverbände, in den vorliegenden Fällen die Verbände im Straßengüterverkehr in Deutschland und in den Niederlanden, können als intermediäre Organisationen konzeptionalisiert werden, die die Dynamiken ihrer politischen und wirtschaftlichen Umwelten in organisationsstruktureller und strategischer Hinsicht aufnehmen. Die durch die europäische Integration verursachten Veränderungen in der Konfiguration von Interessenverbänden innerhalb eines Sektors können dabei verstanden werden als Versuche dieser intermediären Organisationen, ihr Weiterbestehen zu sichern und ihre Autonomie von beiden Umwelten zu erhalten." European integration has been a long and complex, at times problematic process ever since 1957, encompassing the emergence of new institutions and actors. In spite of the centrality that such institutions and actors play in all Europeans' everyday life, as of today the European project remains fragile and subject to eroding pressures from factors such as macro-economic cycles and anti-EU political movements, among many others. Other key factors are a lack of broadly sedimented knowledge about the EU among European citizens and, related to this, relatively low identification with the EU.

German unification presents conceptual puzzles of which comparativists dream. Has this monumental change, which boils down to full German sovereignty, growth of German power, and the emergence of new domestic political interests, altered Germany's relationship to Europe? Is Germany withdrawing from or dominating European institutions? Does the new Germany still tread its well-worn postwar path of the model "European"? The questions are important for our understanding of the sources of policy change and continuity as well as the process of regional integration in general and the course of European integration in particular. In which issue areas has Germany's postunification policy broken with the past? Is the break caused by changes in domestic politics or the increase in the power of a unified and fully sovereign Germany? Have policy changes impeded or enhanced the speed and character of European unification? Are important continuities evident? If both policy continuity and change are present, why the variation? These are the questions Jeffrey Anderson tackles in this timely and important volume.

In the region of savannas in Central Africa cohabiting communities primarily engaged in agriculture and others in livestock farming. The sedentarisation of both activities leads more or less to their mutual 'integration', which is supported by development and administration. This gradual integration of activities, with farmers engaged in livestock farming and livestock farmers, does not mean that there is territorial or social integration. The analysis of village territories in Central African Republic, Chad and Cameroon makes it possible to discuss territorial integration between livestock farming and agriculture when these two activities are still predominantly carried out by two separate communities. The most extensive integration can be seen when a village of breeders has set up, as a result of good community relations, alongside a village of farmers and their territories enter in accordance with rules accepted by local communities. The least good integrations can be seen when there has been an external attempt to bring together breeders and farmers in territorial order. The analysis thus highlights the importance of the territorial dimension in the process of integration between agriculture and livestock in the region of savannas in Central Africa. Die Informationslage über die Zuwanderung ausländischer Wissenschaftlerinnen und Wissenschaftler nach Deutschland stellt sich als bislang unbefriedigend dar. Das Working Paper 50 versucht mit Hilfe der Daten des Mikrozensus, des IAB-Betriebspanels und des Ausländerzentralregisters (AZR) bisher bestehende Informationslücken zu schließen und auf weiteren Forschungsbedarf aufmerksam zu machen. Im Rahmen der vorliegenden Studie werden erstmals drittstaatsangehörige Forscher mit einem Aufenthaltstitel gem. § 20 Aufenthaltsgesetz (AufenthG) betrachtet. Darüber hinaus wird die Gesamtanzahl ausländischer Forscher ermittelt und deren Verteilung auf Betriebe und Wissenschaft untersucht.
