En el presente artículo se evalúa la actuación de las autoridades electorales en México durante las campañas presidenciales de 2012 en lo referente a la garantía del derecho a la información de los ciudadanos. Por medio de una revisión teórica de los conceptos de libertad de expresión y derecho a la información, se argumenta a favor de la necesaria complementariedad e interdependencia entre ambos conceptos. Se explora la manera en que las autoridades electorales abordaron el tema de la libertad de expresión en tres ámbitos de acción: la emisión de "sugerencias de lineamientos" para la cobertura de las campañas electorales por las empresas de radio y televisión; el monitoreo de la cobertura de las campañas en los noticieros de radio y televisión; y la organización y promoción de debates electorales entre los candidatos a la Presidencia de la República. Esta revisión revela que existe una importante contradicción entre la teoría y la práctica del IFE y el TEPJF. Se concluye con algunas reflexiones generales sobre la libertad de expresión y el papel de los órganos electorales en la política mexicana a la vez que se proponen algunas reformas que podrían fortalecer la libertad de expresión y el derecho a la información de los ciudadanos durante los próximos ejercicios electorales.

AbstractThe Invictus Games is an international sporting competition involving military veterans who have become either wounded, injured or sick during their service. Having become a prominent event in the public sphere of participating nations that are drawn from Western security alliances, this article outlines results from a thematic analysis of Australian media surrounding the 2018 Sydney Games. While reporting of the Games included the use of cultural frames that reflect traditional symbolic relationships between sport and war, the data reveal new military–civilian discourses drawn from identity politics and focused on cultural recognition. These discourses emerge through the Invictus Games by (1) disability providing a cultural basis to demand greater respect for contemporary veterans and military service; and (2) empowerment narratives of rehabilitation being symbolically connected to participants' reengagement with their former military identity. Institutional problems central to rising political activism amongst contemporary veterans did not feature in the media coverage. It is argued that the Invictus Games illustrates the need for sociology to conceive of militarization in more multidimensional ways, appreciating both the prominence of a civilian–military gap in contemporary culture and how various social actors in Defense utilize post-heroic narratives in seeking to redress this cultural divide.

Public sociology is a dialogue between social scientists and society about how to understand the present and how to shape the future. This article seeks to contribute in three ways to recent initiatives promoting public sociology. First, by developing a broader concept of engaged social science that includes public sociology and policy or applied sociology, which solves specific social problems. Second, by suggesting ways to move toward greater engagement. Projects centered on creating new theory, the core work of professional sociology, can incorporate elements of engaged work. Policyoriented projects can grow to include the larger dialogues of public sociology. Third, by suggesting ways to manage tensions and create synergies between professional and engaged social science. These ideas are based on a project on community organizing that includes professional research and partnerships centered on policy and public sociology. The article concludes that the movement for more engaged social science should connect with similar initiatives outside the discipline if it is to be effective at individual and institutional levels.

Der Aufsatz orientiert sich an der Frage, welche Erziehungskompetenzen Familien heute angesichts der Vielfalt an Medien und Medieninhalten sowie der Gewalt in den Medien benötigen und wie diese vermittelt werden können. In diesem Zusammenhang richtet der Autor sein Augenmerk auf die Einflüsse, die das Fernsehen insbesondere auf Kinder hat, und auf die Frage, wie Eltern und Jugendmedienschutz hier steuernd einwirken können. Der Familie in Deutschland begegnen die Medien auf drei Arten: (1) Medien präsentieren sich als Helfer, indem sie Neuigkeiten und Informationen liefern oder die zwischenmenschliche Kontaktaufnahme fördern. (2) Medien, insbesondere das Fernsehen, sind Begleiter bzw. Mitglied der Familie. Auf diese Weise kann das Fernsehen tief in die Persönlichkeitsbildung von Kindern eingreifen bzw. deren Weltbild prägen. (3) Medien gelten aufgrund ihrer gewaltdarstellenden Inhalte als Gefährdung, da sie Auslöser von Gewalthandlungen der Jugendlichen sein können. Zusammenfassend stellt der Autor fest, dass trotz der Allgegenwart und Allmacht der Medien der wichtigste Einflussfaktor für die Kinder die Familie ist. Dort wo die Familie funktioniert, wo sie ihre Erziehungsfunktion wahrnimmt, wo sie den Kindern Hilfen und Orientierungen bietet, kann sie die Medien in den Schatten stellen, ohne deren Einfluss jedoch völlig beseitigen zu können. Die Bürger einer Gesellschaft unterstützen Wissenschaft auf Dauer nur in dem Maße, in dem diese ihre Sinn- und Nutzenerwartungen hinreichend befriedigt. Das setzt bei den Institutionen der Wissenschaft voraus, dass sie das ihnen verliehene Mandat zur Selbststeuerung nicht als Recht auf akademischen Autismus interpretieren dürfen. Die vorliegende Studie untersucht die gegenwärtigen Öffentlichkeitsoffensiven der Wissenschaft, die auf der Annahme beruhen, dass der Zustand wechselseitiger Anerkennung von Wissenschaft und Öffentlichkeit zum nachhaltigen Schaden der Wissenschaft zunehmend verpasst wird. Der Autor fragt danach, ob eine entsprechende Krisendiagnose berechtigt ist und wie sich die Kritik an Wissenschaft äußert. Er berichtet über eine eigene einschlägige Recherche, um vorhandene Problemformulierungen zum Thema "Wissenschaft als öffentliche Angelegenheit" zu überprüfen. Исследуются также эвристические возможности теории политической коммуникации в современной политической науке и политической социологии, в частности, для анализа роли СМИ в формировании политических стереотипов и общественного мнения. ; The article reviews principal theoretical interpretations of political evolution in Western Europe and United States in the second half of the 20th century. The heuristic potential of the political communications theory in modern political science and political sociology is discussed, in particular in the analysis of the role of mass media in forming political stereotypes and public opinion.

The views of Anthony Giddens, sociology professor at the U of Cambridge, England, on modern society are presented. His structuration theory explains how individuals create & propagate rules that allow social systems to control their lives. New worldwide modern institutional powers, eg, media, business, & military, affect everyday life, so that personal decisions must balance issues of risk & trust relative to global threats of disasters. Only enforcing the general will to change the agencies controlling calamitous forces will resolve these dilemmas. Understanding resistance movements and armed militias in the Middle East is key in unravelling this complex and sensitive region. This book focuses on the Hezbollah group in Lebanon, combining extensive ethnography with critical insights drawn from a range of disciplines including sociology, psychology and philosophy. Instead of approaching resistance or violence through received macro-formulations, the book concentrates on micro-narratives and spatial dynamics of two critical spaces - namely, Dahiya, a Shia-majority suburb of Beirut and Hezbollah's stronghold, and training camps, where volunteers metamorphose into militants. The book is unique in that it juxtaposes ethnographic narratives in such a way that they script their own rich tale of bodily tactics, 'resistance' and possible subjectivity in the realm of everyday life. They create a complex palimpsest of the history of Lebanon, Hezbollah and individuals striving to live under the 'Islamic sphere of influence', offsetting stereotypes and dominant historiography.This volume is a must-read for scholars, researchers, media analysts and policy groups engaged with the Middle East. As there is no cure to get rid of the unbearable sufferings from these diseases, prevention is the only solution to get rid of HIV/AIDS and STDs. Raising awareness among men about the long run effects of these diseases is one of the prime objectives of reproductive health programs currently executing in the world. Our study pays attention to get an idea of men's perception about these types of reproductive health problems. Findings reveal that about 87 percent men aware about HIV/AIDS and comparatively women were found same aware of AIDS. Only 54.8 percent men are found aware STIs, and more than 45 percent of the respondents have no knowledge of STIs. This indicates men's careless ness about these diseases. Mass media plays a great role in growing awareness about HIV/AIDS. Electronic, print media and interpersonal communication were the main sources of knowledge. About 30 and 40 percent men and women heard of AIDS from two sources respectively. It was found that majority of the male said uncontrolled sexual relation is the major reason of spreading AIDS. Although men's communication with their spouses can help in preventing AIDS but a large portion respondent don't talk to their spouses about preventing AIDS. This book is about Erving Goffman's frame analysis as it, on the one hand, was presented in his 1974 book Frame Analysis and, on the other, was actually conducted in a number of preceding substantial analyses of different aspects of social interaction such as face-work, impression management, fun in games, behavior in public places and stigmatization. There was, in other words, a frame analytic continuity in Goffman's work. In an article published after his death in 1982, Goffman also maintained that he throughout his career had been studying the same object: the interaction order. In this book, the author states that Goffman also applied an overarching perspective on social interaction: the dynamic relation between ritualization, vulnerability and working consensus. However, there were also cracks in Goffman´s work and one is shown here with reference to the leading question in Frame Analysis – what is it that's going on here? While framed on a "microsocial" level, that question ties in with "the interaction order" and frame analysis as a method. If, however, it is framed on a societal level, it mirrors metareflective and metasocial manifestations of changes and unrest in the interaction order that, in some ways, herald the emphasis on contingency, uncertainty and risk in later sociology. Through analyses of social media as a possible new interaction order – where frame disputes are frequent – and of interactional power, the applicability of Goffman's frame analysis is illustrated. As such, this book will appeal to scholars and students of social theory, classical sociology and social interaction.
