Abstract:. The plot of the play begins with the exposition: the introduction of the characters, the political situation, and the death of the late king hamlet. In complication the major characters had conflicts with others and reached the climax when hamlet and Laertes played in the fencing match proposed by the king. Here, Finally Gertrude, the king, Laertes, and Hamlet died. The falling action come when the young Fortinbras came with his army and the ambassadors to tell the death of Hamlet's friends, Rosencrantz and Guildenstren in England. In the resolution, Horatio, Hamlet's best friend, told the truth about the tragedy and the election of young Fortinbras as the king of Denmark. Hamlet and Claudius were major ond round character and the rest were minor and flat characters. The setting of the play was in the castle of Elsinore, Denmark and its surroundings, for example, the guard platform, the queen's closet, and in the churchyard. peer-reviewed ; This article will assess the case for reforming the Irish law on adverse possession to confer additional protection on the owner. Assuming such reform is warranted, it is possible that an existing judicial solution, known as the rule in Leigh v Jack, has already been devised. Ontario's experience with an equivalent rule, known as the inconsistent use test, is of interest in this context and certain academic literature is discussed which explains why the inconsistent use test was developed and argues in favour of its retention or resurrection. An alternative model of protection is then analyzed: the English Qualified Veto System of adverse possession introduced by the Land Registration Act 2002. I argue that a judicial or legislative reincarnation of the rule in Leigh v Jack would be an extremely flawed method of reforming the law in jurisdictions, such as Ireland, which are considering reform, as the Qualified Veto System more effectively responds to the difficulties which the inconsistent use test appears to be attempting to resolve. I conclude that such a Qualified Veto System, similar, although not identical to the one introduced in England, should be introduced in Ireland. ; PUBLISHED ; peer-reviewed

The purpose of this research paper is to examine how martial culture impacted every aspect of Colonial American society. Through the use of data and examining military historians such as John Shy and Don Higginbotham, it will show that conflict played an integral part in the development of early American and how it eventually led to a cultural rift between the colonists and England. The colonists were in a constant struggle for survival in the frontier, physically, mentally and ideologically. When their greatest adversaries were no longer in the picture, their own government became a blockade in this pursuit to maintain their way of life. This paper will also examine how this martial culture influenced the leadership of Revolution in their struggle for independence. Using memoirs and letters, as well as biographies to see how these leaders were shaped and how it impacted their strategic planning when facing the greatest military force of their time. It will also examine the lasting influences of these leader's martial culture on the whole of the new American martial culture. As well as taking a brief look at their post-revolutionary experiences.

With the Bank of England MPC deciding in its August meeting that despite inflation likely to stay above target for a while monetary policy should remain ultra loose for the time being, that is good for prospects for the UK economy. On the assumption of easy monetary conditions continuing to exist the IMF in late July had already upped its UK GDP forecast by most of all advanced nations to 7.0% for 2021 after a nearly 10% drop in 2020. But where is Europe going? It matters because, even though we have had the odd month since the turn of the year when we imported more from China than from Germany, the EU as a whole is still the UK's major trading partner, and will remain that for years to come . And this despite a busy Department of Trade signing as many Free Trade Agreements as it can with other nations and regions – some rollovers of previous EU deals that had to be renegotiated once the UK left the region's and some new.

The growth of homelessness in the UK has been attributed to government led economic reform, beginning with the election of David Cameron in 2010, who promised to significantly reduce the UK's welfare bill. We argue that these welfare reforms have adversely affected vulnerable young people and placed key services beyond their reach. This paper shares data collected from young people aged 16–21 living in a homeless hostel in England and seeks to challenge notions of responsibilization, which hold young people accountable for the circumstances in which they become encased. Participants reported that although homelessness was precipitated by violence and abuse at home, local authorities sought parental consent before making provision available. Young people described being refused help and advised to "go home" when they reported themselves as being homeless. Despite feeling safe and well supported in the hostel, residents were aware that hostel support was temporary and described feeling worried about their future. Our research highlights the limited nature of services and concludes that vulnerable young people, without family support, are especially disadvantaged by their circumstances.

Human rights are described as central to the social work profession. However, whilst principles of human rights are generally accepted as fundamental to social work, their application in specific practice settings is far more complex and the perspectives of social workers themselves are largely absent in the literature. This research explored the perspectives of nine social workers in integrated mental health teams in a National Health Service (NHS) Trust in the north of England. Participants took part in semi-structured face-to-face interviews investigating the role of social workers in enacting rights-based social work in integrated mental health services, the issues they face and aspects of good practice. Participants identified rights-based approaches as inherent in their practice but lacked an adequate language to describe this work and confidence in using specific legislation. All described a lack of available training (post-qualification) and support, and the impact of a lack of both time and resources, in enacting rights-based work. The research suggests a need for further training in human rights, increased support for social workers in enacting rights-based work, and for a language of human rights to be more effectively embedded in organisations.

The contribution investigates the relationship between health and planning and describes the impact of the pandemic on the resurgence of health as a topic able to orient urban planning. The first section describes some significant episodes in the planning history of two European countries, England and Italy, to demonstrate that issues of sanitation and health have guided the transformation of cities and have shaped modern town planning since its origins, dated back in late XIX century. In the second section, we highlight a resurgence in the last 30-40 years of an interest in well-being and quality of life by planning policies in Europe thanks to some international movements, the Time of the City and the Healthy Cities. In the section 3 we examine the contribution of cities in reacting to the Covid-19 pandemic by presenting a number of planning strategies, policies and actions implemented by local governments, that have been experimenting with new forms of urban proximity. The final section discusses the extent to which the global pandemic has brought innovations to the debate regarding the relationship between health and planning.

Building on the issue of genealogy of the history play I touched on in my previous article, this contribution examines how the characters in Christopher Marlowe's attempt at a proto-history play and of his preceding historical tragedies lead us both to the historical memory that a London Elizabethan theatregoer might have had, and to his imaginary polities where the plays were set — from the conventional Orient conquered by Tamburlaine, to England and France. Histories of statistics and quantification have demonstrated that systems of statistical knowledge participate in the construction of the objects that are measured. However, the pace, purpose, and scope of quantification in state bureaucracy have expanded greatly over the past decades, fuelled by (neoliberal) societal trends that have given the social phenomenon of quantification a central place in political discussions and in the public sphere. This is particularly the case in the field of education. In this article, we ask what is at stake in state bureaucracy, professional practice, and individual pupils as quantification increasingly permeates the education field. We call for a theoretical renewal in order to understand quantification as a social phenomenon in education. We propose a sociology-of-knowledge approach to the phenomenon, drawing on different theoretical traditions in the sociology of knowledge in France (Alain Desrosi eres and Laurent Th evenot), England (Barry Barnes and Donald MacKenzie), and Canada (Ian Hacking), and argue that the ongoing quantification practice at different levels of the education system can be understood as cultural processes of self-fulfilling prophecies. ; publishedVersion

While COVID-19 spreads aggressively and rapidly across the globe, many societies have also witnessed the spread of other viral phenomena like misinformation, conspiracy theories, and general mass suspicions about what is really going on. This study investigates how exposure to and trust in information sources, and anxiety and depression, are associated with conspiracy and misinformation beliefs in eight countries/regions (Belgium, Canada, England, Philippines, Hong Kong, New Zealand, United States, Switzerland) during the COVID-19 pandemic. Data were collected in an online survey fielded from May 29, 2020 to June 12, 2020, resulting in a multinational representative sample of 8,806 adult respondents. Results indicate that greater exposure to traditional media (television, radio, newspapers) is associated with lower conspiracy and misinformation beliefs, while exposure to politicians and digital media and personal contacts are associated with greater conspiracy and misinformation beliefs. Exposure to health experts is associated with lower conspiracy beliefs only. Higher feelings of depression are also associated with greater conspiracy and misinformation beliefs. We also found relevant group- and country differences. We discuss the implications of these results.

Since Mary Queen of Scots' execution in 1587, she has become a symbol of Scottish identity, failed female leadership, and Catholic martyrdom. Throughout the twentieth century, Mary was regularly depicted on screen (Ford, 1936; Froelich, 1940; Jarrott, 1971) as a thrice-wed Catholic queen, unable to rule her country due to her feminine nature and Catholic roots. However, with the rise of third wave feminism and postfeminism in media, coupled with the increased influence of female directors and writers, Mary's characterization has shifted from portraying female/emotional weakness and religious sacrifice to female/collaborative strength in hardship and a struggle against patriarchal prejudice. Josie Rourke's film Mary Queen of Scots (2018) and CW's Reign (2013-2017) present a queen who is no longer limited to her religious identity as a Catholic martyr, and consequently a weak ruler. Instead religious division is mostly sidelined, and gendered politics is the central struggle, highlighting similarities between Mary and Queen Elizabeth I of England, where previous films presented opposites. Together, these two productions transform Mary's narrative from fragility and religion, into a struggle against misogynistic control of powerful women.

Within mental health legislation in England and Wales the Responsible Clinician for specific patients should be the Approved Clinician with the most appropriate expertise to meet their primary assessment and treatment needs. The study aimed to explore nurse and psychologist perspectives on becoming a Responsible Clinician in the context of their limited uptake of the role and calls for an increase in advanced practice roles within mental health. It comprised a qualitative inquiry in the form of a thematic analysis of 12 semi-structured interviews. Four sub-themes emerged under the theme of 'becoming a Responsible Clinician'. They were: (i) the Responsible Clinician amongst other roles; (ii) developing in the role; (iii) working with psychiatrist colleagues; and (iv) organisational context. Responsible Clinicians were juggling the role with other senior clinical responsibilities, often without a coherent programme of ongoing educational development or organisational support structures. If mental health service provider organisations adopt this extended role more widely then role-specific support and supervision arrangements should be in place as part of a coherent workforce strategy. This is particularly important given the legal and ethical responsibilities of the Responsible Clinician.

Thanks to all our research participants for sharing their time and views. ; Arms' length bodies are often seen as a tool of technocratic governance, designed to insulate decision-making from the politicizing pressures of populist influence. This article examines a subset of arms' length bodies in the UK which challenge this convention: agencies which exist to 'champion' the voice of patients and the public in the four NHS systems (England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales). We compare the functions of these agencies on paper and through qualitative interviews in each system which focused on public involvement in major service change (such as closing hospitals). We found that agencies in all four systems had struggled to demonstrate their legitimacy, squeezed between the demands of the elected Governments they answer to, the NHS organisations they are meant to support and challenge, and the publics whose voices they are meant to amplify. We argue that the evolving solutions found in each system demonstrate a foundational tension between locally-legitimate actors and nationally-capable political savvy. ; Publisher PDF ; Peer reviewed
