Venezuela, throughout its history has been a host country for immigrants. Currently, it presents a completely different migration pattern, motivated by a national crisis in a context of institutional deterioration, economic recession and social breakdown, a situation that has worsened over the past 17 years. This work is an exploratory study of qualitative orientation. It done through a literature review of secondary sources and in-depth consultation Venezuelan immigrants, who offer their insight into five dimensions: migration path, education, training and employment status, participation in networks, Venezuelan socioeconomic status and return expectations. The main findings, both documentary sources and empirical inquiry, remind us of the existence of a serious deterioration in the current living conditions in the country and the need for a profound change in the political, economic and social level as a prerequisite for a possible return. ; Venezuela, a lo largo de su historia ha sido un país receptor de inmigrantes. Actualmente, presenta un patrón migratorio completamente distinto, motivado por una crisis nacional bajo un contexto de deterioro institucional, recesión económica y descomposición social, situación que ha ido empeorando durante los últimos 17 años. Este trabajo es un estudio exploratorio de orientación cualitativa. Hecho a través de un análisis bibliográfico de fuentes secundarias y la consulta en profundidad a inmigrantes venezolanos, que ofrecen su percepción respecto a cinco dimensiones: trayectoria migratoria, educación, formación y situación laboral, participación en redes, situación socioeconómica venezolana y expectativas de retorno. Los hallazgos principales, tanto de fuentes documentales como en la consulta empírica, nos remiten a la existencia de un grave deterioro de las condiciones de vida en Venezuela y la necesidad de un cambio profundo a nivel político, económico y social como condición necesaria para un posible retorno.

Focusing on the 25 January 2011 Egyptian revolution, this book traces its affective and emotional dynamics into the local realties and everyday politics of the urban subaltern, exploring the impact of revolutionary participation on protestors' engagement in street politics. As well as investigating the affective dynamics of the revolution, the author analyses the spatiality of affect in the context of the Maspero Triangle neighbourhood, highlighting the disruption of the revolutionary moment and the evolution of informal political practices. In addition, the book focuses on state efforts to counter revolutionary street politics by co-opting and dismantling politicized local practices. It is argued that the appropriation by the state of the notion of the baltagi helped create narratives around 'thuggery' to undermine the politics of the urban poor. Based on empirical fieldwork, the book ultimately shows how the revolutionary moment informed subsequent local activism, illustrating that it was both disruptive and productive in terms of contentious street politics.

This book offers the first in-depth account of healthcare policy in Chile across the twentieth century. It charts how nursing and nurses intersected with the political context of healthcare, with a focus on the country's transition across welfare systems. Drawing on extensive archival research and interviews with nurses and governmental representatives, this book explores how the nursing profession implemented and challenged reform, while policies had an impact on nurses. It analyses nurses' employment and mobility, and their lobbying through the press and through unions. No other bilateral relationship has comparable significance for the future of the international order as that between the United States and the People's Republic of China. Domestic political and social structural factors have a significant influence on the conflict behaviour of the two states. These factors are contributing towards the deterioration of the bilateral relationship and making it crisis-prone. Vulnerabilities arise from the interdependencies between the two societies and economies. An awareness of this fact can provide an incentive for cooperation. Efforts made to avoid the risk of escalation can also promote cooperation. Both states are dependent on a functioning international order. However, this insight is all too easily overshadowed by the conflictual aspects of the bilateral relationship. This is the task - and at the same time an opportunity - for German and European policy, which should strengthen European participation in world governance to gain more weight and exert a moderating influence on China and America. The analysis of land management, lineage and family through the case study of early modern Spanish nobility from sixteenth to early nineteenth century is a major issue in recent historiography. It aims to shed light on how upper social classes arranged strategies to maintain their political and economic status. Rivalry and disputes between old factions and families were attached to the control and exercise of power. Blood, land management and honour were the main elements in these disputes. Honour, service to the Crown, participation in the conquest and 'pure' blood (Catholic affiliation) were the main features of Spanish nobility. This book analyses the origins of the entailed-estate (mayorazgo) from medieval times to early modern period, as the main element that enables us to understand the socio-economic behaviour of these families over generations. This longue durée chronology within the Braudelian methodology of the research aims to show how strategies and family networks changed over time, demonstrating a micro-history study of daily life.

"Motivated by a theology that declared missionary work was independent of secular colonial pursuits, Protestant missionaries from Germany operated in ways that contradict current and prevailing interpretations of nineteenth-century missionary work. As a result of their travels, these missionaries contributed to Germany's colonial culture. Because of their theology of Christian universalism, they worked against the bigoted racialism and ultra-nationalism of secular German empire-building. Heavenly Fatherland provides a detailed political and cultural analysis of missionaries, mission societies, mission intellectuals, and missionary supporters. Combining cases studies from East Africa with studies of the metropole, this book demonstrates that missionaries' ideas about race and colonialism influenced ordinary Germans' experience of globalization and colonialism at the same time that the missionaries shaped colonial governance. Latin American Dictatorships in the Era of Fascism focuses on the reverse-wave of dictatorships that emerged in Latin America during the 1930s and the transnational dissemination of authoritarian institutions in the era of fascism. Antaonio Costa Pinto revisits the study of authoritarian alternatives to liberal democracy in 1930s Latin America from the perspective of the diffusion of corporatism in the world of inter-war dictatorships. The book explores what drove the horizontal spread of corporatism in Latin America, the processes and direction of transnational diffusion, and how social and political corporatism became a central set of new institutions utilized by dictatorships during this era.
