The Mosan region, hagiographic imperial laboratory? If political and economic conditions particularly favorables for eleventh and twelfth centuries in the old diocese of Liege make the golden age of the Mosan art (the Meuse river valley), the hagiography is not outdone. Exceptional narrative sources instrumentalize the Mosan saints as powerful protectors in the space of an episcopal principality dependent on the the Holy Roman Empire. The working hypothesis is verified through the strict sense of hagiography : Triumphus sancti Remacli (c. 1071), Passio Agilolfi, Translatio Malmundarium and Miracula sancti Quirini et aliorum (after 1062), in a prolific author Sigebert of Gembloux, and in some scattered texts ((Vita Lamberti of canon Nicolas (c. 1145), relation of the pilgrimage Liege in Santiago .). ; Peer reviewed

This article offers a general state of affairs of the institutional conditions within which Mexican political science has evolved since its inception during the middle of the 20th century. The importance of recent work which aim at defining its contributions and future challenges is also highlighted in order to question where further influence and quality is sought in publications and teaching. ; El presente texto, desarrolla un balance general de las condiciones institucionales sobre las cuales se ha dado la evolución de la Ciencia Política mexicana desde su formalización a mediados del siglo XX. También se destaca la importancia de la realización de trabajos recientes que apuntan hacia definir cuáles son los retos más importantes a encarar si se pretende una mayor influencia y solidez en su producción académica, así como en su calidad docente.

International audience ; Jeune commis aux écritures à la préfecture de police de Paris, Alphonse Bertillon présente, par deux fois dès 1879, au préfet de police Louis Andrieux une méthode de mesure ostéométrique qu'il estime infaillible pour révéler l'identité des condamnés récidivistes. Comme il le précise alors : « M r. Broca, le célèbre anthropologiste que j'ai consulté à ce sujet, m'a affirmé qu'il était impossible de retrouver deux hommes ayant même taille, même envergure et même hauteur de médius » Initialement rejetée, sa proposition suscite pourtant ensuite l'intérêt du nouveau préfet de police Ernest Camescasse qui est nommé en juillet 1881. Ce dernier décide d'accorder un délai probatoire à Bertillon qui parvient, le 20 février 1883, à effectuer une première reconnaissance d'un « cheval de retour » grâce à son « invention ». L'intérêt de Camescasse pour ce qui deviendra rapidement le « bertillonnage » est notamment motivé par le fait qu'il sera aussi l'auteur, aux côtés du ministre de l'intérieur Pierre Waldeck-Rousseau et du garde des Sceaux Félix Martin-Feuillée au sein du gouvernement de Léon Gambetta, d'une proposition de loi visant à déporter perpétuellement certains condamnés récidivistes sur le sol d'une colonie. Cette proposition débouchera sur la loi relative à la relégation des récidivistes qui, promulguée le 27 mai 1885, suppose pour pouvoir être efficacement appliquée le recours par les pouvoirs publics à des modes d'identification incontestables. Car les fraudes ne vont pas manquer de se multiplier avec le durcissement de la politique républicaine portant sur les récidivistes : « Ces fraudes sont très fréquentes et on peut présumer qu'elles le deviendront encore bien plus, quand les peines qui frappent le récidiviste auront été aggravées ». Cette loi est donc, dès son origine, reliée à la technique anthropométrique qui permet de prélever, de fixer et d'archiver un savoir sur les « délinquants d'habitude ». L'anthropométrie demeure ainsi l'envers nécessaire de la loi, mais son efficacité reste directement conditionnée aux acteurs et aux contextes au travers desquels elle est mise en œuvre comme le montre significativement l'exemple des relégués pour la Guyane.

C., considerant els ingresos de l'època com capítols extraordinaris d'un pressupost que els romans mai el•laboraren, llevat de la previsió d'obtenir enormes guanys en cadascuna de les campanyes militars, enriquint als comandants i sostenint l'estat a costa dels vençuts.

This article analyses the emergence of an environmental policy of the European Communities (EC) in the 1970s in terms of the Europeanisation of the environment. Drawing on the conceptual literature on Europeanisation, three different types of Europeanisation are distinguished: first, Europeanisation as establishment of institutions and policy making at the EC-level, secondly, Europeanisation as the EC's impact on the member state, and thirdly, societal Europeanisation, as a process of establishing transnational cooperation of societal actors across the EC. The article disentangles the process of Europeanisation of the environment emphasising the beginnings of Europeanisation in the context of the Council of Europe and the take-over by the EC of policy ideas and principles from the international level. Furthermore, it addresses the rapid emergence of societal Europeanisation, notably by anticipating the European impact on member state legislation. Elaboré à l'échelle internationale, le concept politique d'environnement offre l'exemple rare du transfert d'un domaine d'action politique vers les Communautés européennes depuis d'autres internnationales. Cet article explore le processus complexe d' de la politique environnementale, comme un transfert à directions multiples d'un concept forgé dans les années 1970.

Рассматриваются проблемы, связанные с творчеством великого русского писателя Ф.М. Достоевского. Впервые сделана попытка выявить место российского купечества и его деятельности в романах и публицистике великого писателя, который довольно точно отразил его социальную психологию и менталитет. В романах Достоевского наблюдается все возраставшее внимание к русскому купечеству, которое несло в себе как отрицательные стороны обогащения, навеянные прежде всего Западом, так и многие черты русского национального характера, или «почвенничества». ; This article views some problems associated with the work of a great writer, F.M. Dostoevsky. For the first time an attempt was made to identify the Russian merchants' place and activities in novels and publications of the great writer, where their social psychology and mentality were reflected fairly accurately. The main conclusions of the article are reduced to the fact of the growing attention to the Russian merchants in Dostoevsky's novels. The Russian merchants carried negative aspects of enrichment foremost inspired by the West and also many features of the Russian national character that were pertinent to the Russian social movement "nationalist trend", to which Dostoevsky belonged. The writer spoke about deficiency in "practical men" in Russia that are professionals primarily in the field of commerce, state government and its regions. Society at that time, and, in our opinion, nowadays, lacked professional education and moral and ethical qualities. Nevertheless, the domination of the bourgeoisie became evident for F.M. Dostoevsky, too. That is why along with critisism in Dostoevsky's works there were the Old Testament merchants with the same beliefs as his. It was the social movement "nationalist trend" that made it possible to hope for the best results in formation of the post-reform period Russian civil society. Dostoevsky's realism in the merchants description also based on the fact that he came from the merchant Nechayev down the female line. His relatives in that line permanently supported him, helped him to enroll in the Engineering School, paying for his study. Later they helped him with money, when the writer was in Siberia, and then published literary magazines. Studying Dostoevsky's works we can hope Russian and local oligarchs stop to care only about thier well-being and pay attention to people's needs.Dostoevsky considered that Jews were one of the main bourgeois principles guides to the Russian life that is why sometimes he was not fairly considered anti-Semitic. In his several works, he spoke about the power of money. For instance in Notes from the Underground "money is chasing liberty", The Insulted and Injured "money is power". Ganya Ivolgin from The Idiot declared "money gives the person originality", according to the character from The Gambler "money is everything". The character from The Raw Youth vividly demonstrated passion for money; he was not ready to kiss women, but 10 rubles notes falling in his hands due to the naive speculations. He invented a theory about the hidden power of money, where the happiest man was Rothschild, the banker. The hero did not recognize any other values, until he fell in love and it helped him get rid of these obsessions. However, soon Dostoevsky changed his mind and began taking the New Time more tolerantly and wisely with its inhabitants, first of all, merchants. In his most famous novel "Crime and Punishment" in the background in the letters of Rodion Raskolnikov's mother there was a merchant, Afanasy I. Vakhrushev, characterized as a "good man" understanding the problems of the Raskolnikov family.

Lee Ufan and the Art of Mono-ha in Postwar Japan (1968-1972) is the first English-language study on the late 1960s Japanese artistic phenomenon, Mono-ha (School of Things). Appearing at a moment of political crisis during the period of protests against the Vietnam War, Mono-ha stands at a juncture when the utopian energies of Japan's postwar avant-garde had reached an endpoint. Trained in continental philosophy, Mono-ha's key ideologue, Lee Ufan introduced a theory of perception that was informed by an integration of structuralism and phenomenology. Based on Lee's interpretation, Mono-ha strove to radically redefine the relationship between man and nature beyond the foundational dualism in western metaphysics and modern aesthetics. His theory rejected the act of creating as an expression of the subject's will and emphasized the structure surrounding the work's existence instead. This dissertation charts the Japanese avant-garde prior to Mono-ha and maps the transitional moments when artists began to destabilize visual perception through distortions of dimensional space in order to separate the real and the perceived. Beginning with Lee's interpretive analysis of the work that launched the movement, Phase-Mother Earth (1968) by Sekine Nobuo, the dissertation presents Lee's notions of gesture, corporeality, and topos, all foundational to an understanding of Mono-ha. The dissertation further analyzes Lee's Relatum series through his theorization of "encounter," another key concept in which the very idea of an object shifts from a permanent body to an anticipatory passage. Finally, the dissertation considers Mono-ha's other central artist/theoretician, Suga Kishio, whose interest in semantic structures distance his practice from Lee's focus on the phenomenology of seeing, offering a different interpretive framework for Mono-ha. In addition to archival and contemporary art historical analysis, the dissertation includes an appendix comprised of brief biographies of relevant artists and new translations of selected texts on Mono-ha from 1969 to 1987.

International audience ; Le conservatisme catholique est une pensée politique née aux Etats-Unis dans les années cinquante et soixante et qui a servi de matrice parmi d'autres apports à la double émergence du néo-conservatisme et du conservatisme chrétien –appelé également droite religieuse- dans les années 1970.1 Ses concepteurs ont eu une influence majeure sur l'évolution idéologique du GOP (Great Old Party, Parti Républicain) depuis une quarantaine d'années. Ils ont pesé sur lapolitique extérieure de la Présidence Reagan puis sur celle de Bush Junior. Ils ont puissamment contribué à l'invention du concept de guerre des cultures et animé le projet, toujours d'actualité, de replacer les principes chrétiens au cœur du droit, par fidélité envers les intentions supposées de Pères fondateurs de fonder en Amérique une République chrétienne. Pour cette famille d'esprit, les Pères de l'Indépendance et de la Constitution des Etats-Unis, dont ils s'estiment les fidèles héritiers, auraient en effet souhaité consolider une République chrétienne et non construire une République éclairée, comme ils auraient désiré sauvegarder le caractère très chrétien de leur société et non rendre effective, pour la première fois dans l'histoire, la séparation du politique et du religieux dans les affaires publiques. Comme d'autres groupes, les conservateurs catholiques ont multiplié les think tanks de formation et de diffusion de leur idéologie politique. Ils se sont bien implantés sur la toile. Leur objectif est de former et de réformer la conscience politique des Américains. Ils ont aussi la prétention de réformer celle de tous les 'Occidentaux'. Après avoir développé ses réseaux et son importance aux Etats-Unis, la droite catholique américaine est, semble-t-il, sur le point de s'implanter à dessein en Europe, par un effet de conjoncture intéressant : l'Europe intéresse les catho-conservateurs américains, pour la place qu'elle joue dans leur imaginaire de l'Ouest, comme cœur historique de 'la' civilisation chrétienne. Les maux sociaux et spirituels qu'ils dénoncent aux Etats-Unis leur apparaissent identiques et même plus avancés sur le vieux continent. Ils leur semblentnécessiter les mêmes solutions urgentes.

Communication donnée dans la III ème Partie Genre et enjeux politico-religieux ; International audience ; Le discours anti-féministe américain s'est construit en deux temps, pendant la décennie 1960-1970 face à l'avènement d'un mouvement féministe puissant et de tendance libertaire: ce discours s'est appuyé sur le refus de la contraception libre et sur la guerre déclarée à la dépénalisation de l'avortement. La réactivité spectaculaire de ce discours et l'écho puissant qu'il a obtenu ont été plus particulièrement le fait d'intellectuels ou de gens de lettres inscrits dans le mouvement conservateur, qui ont voulu contrer par l'engagement politique la libéralisation sexuelle et les effets sociaux de l'égalité des droits. Par leur action, le slogan Pro-Life et la protection de la famille traditionnelle sont devenus des thèmes politiques majeurs de la droite américaine. Nous voudrions nous intéresser à la singularité « féminine » de ce discours. En effet, un certain nombre de grandes voix féminines (et catholiques) de cette période, comme celle de Clara Booth Luce, identifiée par ailleurs comme une féministe militante, ont publiquement combattu les thèses du 'féminisme radical' et refusé qu'il trouve un aboutissement légal. Le combat de ces anti-féministes a trouvé sa première bataille dans le projet d'amendement constitutionnel sur l'égalité des sexes (Equal Rights Amendement) jusque là unanimement défendu par tous les courants politiques.

If sex differences exist in how parents make the trade-off, sex-specific differences may exist in the contribution of each parent to those costs. Adaptations of offspring facing such costs are not well understood, but the hormone corticosterone probably plays a role. We manipulated breeding effort in Cory's shearwaters (Calonectris diomedea) to increase costs to offspring and used an integrated measure of corticosterone from chick feathers to investigate how experimental variation in parental investment influences offspring physiology. Average foraging trip duration and foraging efficiency (FE) of breeding pairs were not related to chick corticosterone, but sex biases in FE were. Adult male investment was more strongly related to chick corticosterone than was female investment. ResumenEl estado actual de la ciencia política en América Latina, aunque con claroscuros, parece lo suficientemente asentado. Los escasos análisis sobre la disciplina, tanto en perspectiva regional como por países, si bien presentan un cuadro de hegemonía del positivismo norteamericano, permiten descubrir también resquicios que pugnan por la aceptación de la diversificación teórica y metodológica. Algunos análisis, esencialmente provocados por la crítica de Sartori al molde americano de la ciencia política, recomiendan un vuelco hacia la filosofía política y hacia otras disciplinas, a fin de evitarla esterilidad empiricista. En el artículo se argumenta que debe añadírsele a esta vía la oportunidad que ofrece la introducción de un corpus de pensamiento analítico que, en perspectiva comparada e impulsado por IPSA, posibilitaría la autorreflexión disciplinary la introspección epistemológica. Se informa de las ventajas que para la disciplina reporta la apropiaciónde este enfoque, las que no son evidentes por sí mismas, por cuanto, por una parte, no es costumbre de los cientistas políticos reflexionar en clave epistemológica y, por otro, debido a que la disciplina se mueve más lentamente que otras al encuentro con la sensibilidad histórica que hoy caracteriza el momento de las ciencias sociales. El que hacer disciplinar, traducido en la docencia, la investigación y la visibilidad pública, no sólo sería más heterogéneo y sensible al contexto, sino que vería aumentado su sentido de utilidad.Political science and the historyof a discipline: A model to assembleAbstractThe current state of political science in Latin America, while not without uncertainty, appears to be sufficiently solid yet uncertain. Although the few studies of the discipline reflect, both regionally and nationally, the hegemony of North American positivism, they help tounveil niches claiming theoretical and methodological diversification. Responding to Sartori's critique to the North American template of political science, some studies suggest a shift towards political philosophy and other disciplines to prevent unfruitful empiricism. We contend that this path should be extended by introducinga corpus of comparative analytical thought,promoted by IPSA, in order to make disciplinary selfreflection and epistemological introspection possible. We report on the virtues that adopting this approach would bring. Such virtues are not self-evident becausepolitical scientists do not often think epistemologically, and because this discipline is less dynamic than others in discovering the historical sensitivity that characterizes today's social sciences. As a consequence, the scope of the discipline in terms of –teaching, researching, and public visibility– would not only be more heterogeneous and context-sensitive, but its sense of usefulness would be enhanced.

In the area of Pedagogy, the problem of the dicotomies: equality-unequality; diversity-homogenity, has brought a wide variety of debates and has given place tointeresting papers that help understand its complexity and give meaning to thenecesity of elucidating these questions In this sense, the intention of our work,is to contribute with some conceptual elements that could be useful to set someideas about the mentioned dualities and at the same time, support practices facingthese confl icts and integrate them into a wider scheme making a commitmentof action in the classrooms. To make a brief socio political analysis of our country,we focus in the real possibilities of teaching at school, from a political culturalapproach which recognizes social diff erences, considers diversity, and proposes–in the complexity of a classroom cultural production with its particularhistoies, experiencies, and multicultural languages– to build a cultural net able topromote critical refl ective learning with a democratic training that gives citizensequality of opportunities. ; En el campo de la Pedagogía, el problema de la dicotomías igualdad-desigualdad, diversidad-homogeneidad, ha suscitado en los últimos años una amplia gama de debates y provocado sustanciosos escritos que ayudaron a percibir su complejidad y significar la necesidad de dilucidar estas cuestiones. En ese sentido, nuestra intención en este trabajo, es aportar algunos elementos conceptuales que podrían contribuir a precisar algunas ideas en torno a esas dualidades, a la vez que potenciar posibles prácticas que enfrenten las disyuntivas, las integren en un esquema más amplio y se comprometan desde la acción en las aulas. En el marco de una breve contextualización socio-política de nuestro país, centramos nuestro análisis en las posibilidades de la enseñanza en la escuela, desde el enfoque de una Pedagogía de la política cultural. Enfoque que reconoce las diferencias sociales, considera la diversidad y propone que, en la complejidad de una producción cultural en el aula respetando las historias, experiencias y lenguajes del multiculturalismo de los alumnos, se construya un entramado cultural que promueva aprendizajes críticos, reflexivos y comprometidos con una formación democrática y ciudadana promovedora de igualdad de oportunidades.
