The changes in Egyptian political life since Mubarak's ascension to power have been dramatic. Following Sadat's hesitant steps toward pluralism, the Mubarak government permitted the certification of a variety of opposition parties. The article examines various opposition movements and parties. The radicalization of the Islamist trend is discussed. (DÜI-Sen)

; Peter I's use of Arabic inscriptions lies within the scope of a wider architectonic project which draws its inspiration straight from patterns inherited from al-Andalus –as shown by Antonio Almagro Gorbea y Juan Carlos Ruiz Souza– and raises a series of questions. Indeed, the assimilation by a Christian king of Islamic codes representative of power leads us to think about the meaning and the function of these inscriptions since epigraphy is closely related to Islam and the Koranic message. Moreover, it raises the problem of the reception of a language different from that which is commonly used by the originator of the inscriptions and his environment. We will try to show, from various angles, how the symbolical value of these Arabic inscriptions can serve the king's attempts of reinforcing his political power in Castile: through the general effect they are intended to produce on the reader, through the ideological content of the epigraphic discourse and through the discursive act itself, i.e. the mere fact of resorting to Arabic epigraphy.

In: Medien und Terrorismus: Reaktionen auf den 11. September 2001, S. 151-155
"In Jesus of Arabia, the Reverend Canon Andrew Thompson introduces an unfamiliar Jesus--Jesus in the context of his home in the Middle East. Whether readers believe Jesus to be a prophet or the messiah, Thompson enhances our understanding of his work and character by looking at his social context as a man and Middle Easterner. Jesus's teachings take on new meaning as Thompson explores themes including family in Arabia, gender roles in the region, food culture, and more. Jesus of Arabia looks at the bridges between Islam and Christianity through the figure of Jesus and how the two communities may reflect each other despite their differences. Thompson draws on his experience as a priest in the Anglican Church and his many years living in the Middle East to analyze the often conflicting roles and loyalties concerning family, culture, and God. A timely and incisive work, Jesus of Arabia invites us to consider contemporary views of the Middle East and how a figure like Jesus might be received today"--Dust jacket
In: Saramifar , Y 2021 , ' Hope, Messiah and troubles of messianic futures in Iran: exploring martyrdom and politics of hope amongst the Iranian revolutionary yout ' , British Journal of Middle Eastern Studies . https://doi.org/10.1080/13530194.2021.1997714
Hope for a messianic future and the Messiah's return emerge from everyday life negotiations of some Iranians within the Islamic Republic of Iran. The Islamic Republic has co-opted the religion, messianic hope and the Messiah to build a mode of religious governance and to maintain pro-regime families and the revolu- tionary youth. I will demonstrate politics of hope in Iran and argue that subscribing to the messianic hope by pro-regime families may appear as a religious expression of futurity or compliance with the Islamic Republic at first glance. However, messianic hope is a mode of world-making to endure militancy, militarization of everyday life, political Islam and the pain caused by a stream of dead bodies coming from different conflict zones. This article builds on the existing debates of hope to show how the reality of 'the future' becomes messianic for Shia believers and how social actors carving hope amidst precarities is not an orientation towards the future but rather a mode of making-do.

В XVII в. ; On the basis of legislative acts the article considers the position of the Russian state in relation to the Muslims of Western Siberia in the XVII-XVIII centuries. In the XVII century the government carried out the policy of liberal attitude towards religion among the Western Siberian Tatars and Bukharans. The energetic activity on the Christianization of the Muslims with the use of a nonviolent form began in the first quarter of the XVIII century. The activity of the Muslims was limited by legal acts, which testifies for the various statuses of Orthodoxy and Islam in Western Siberia.
