- Zukunftsszenarien, Szenarien
Digital platforms are supporting a new universe of audiovisual production, distribution, and audience viewing, and they are now tightly integrated into many people's everyday lives. The changes in commercial and public service media business strategies demand the analysis of emerging trends and perspectives in the audiovisual landscape. The articles in this Special Section are selected from submissions to the International Association for Media and Communication Research (IAMCR) International Communication Section, and they include examinations of both the cultural and the political economy of the European audiovisual industry's operations and practices. These articles address the impacts of "platformization" and changing policies and regulation in the audiovisual industry, focusing on developments in the European Union and, nationally, in Spain and the UK. They highlight successful instances of adaptation to changing market conditions in the cases of television series production and public service media. They also call attention to how new cultural, political, and economic dynamics, regulations, and changes in the competitive environment in Europe are challenging the financial sustainability of local audiovisual content production and efforts to strengthen media plurality and diversity, as well as online public service media discoverability. This special issue signals a continuing need for research to monitor interactions between changing technologies for monetizing audience data, commercial business strategies, and the constraints and opportunities facing European commercial and public service media players.

[EN] There is no doubt that the new technologies have changed the way we look at the world. The "democratization of the image", as Augustine and Thomas Domingo and Lydia Feitó have said, one hand allows us to share trends, products and tastes, offering the possibility of finding a different and unique identity, on the other hand, it makes us more homogeneous and equal, causing all kinds of stereotypical elements to appear in all kinds of people. Today it is almost impossible not to be affected by the influence of projected images in various media, the influence is further enhanced by its great power of diffusion and repetition with which we are bombarded. Women, is particularly affected by visual media, such as advertising. In addition, this technological age has rapidly introduced new visual models, which have been absorbed by society as real. How has art responded? This fact has resulted in new ways of making art? There is a correspondence between the media women and the artistic media? And about all, what effect has had in the present woman the female imagery that has been strengthened by this new digital era? Is the woman in the "picture" which wants to be closer to the woman in the street or on the contrary is the woman in the street who wants to go inside the picture? It is time to say that the image is more important than its referent?
Embedded systems are assuming key control functions in everyday life. Systemic failure in the energy supply or the transport sector could lead to fatal consequences. Users place great reliance on the error-free function of such systems. Guaranteeing the functional capability of digital circuits is the goal of testing - and this aim must be achieved at low cost, since every chip has to be tested separately after production.
Digitalisation oscillates between profound promises of transformation and a nebulous buzzword. The analysis of digital transformation processes leaves hardly any (analysis of) so- cial phenomenon untouched. We argue for understanding digitalisation as a complex and heterogeneous process that cannot be rashly reduced to individual principles or uniform transformation effects. Starting from a working definition of digitalisation, we outline the challenges for social sciences research aiming to conceptualize this heterogeneity. We argue for a more differentiated and socio-historically informed analysis not only of processes of disruptive change through digitalisation, but also of continuities, modifications, and reinforcements. In view of the large number of individual case studies and to avoid one-sided generalisations, comparative analyses of different or supposedly similar digitalisation processes are central. Finally, micro-macro analysis opens up important insights into the multifaceted nature of digital transformation(s), especially in terms of breaks, frictions, and enablements of digitalisation through organising and organisations. Understanding digitalisation as a heterogeneous process does not imply multiplying observations of differences but paying attention to the complexity and embeddedness of digitalisation.
