This frames organization as a structure within which identity work occurs, often as a means of managerial control. In our paper our contribution is to develop the concept of individuation pursued through prefigurative practices within alternative organizing to reframe this relation. We combine recent scholarship on alternative organizations and new social movements to provide a theoretical grounding for an ethnographic study of the prefigurative organizing practices and related identity work of an alternative group in a UK city. We argue that in such groups, identity, organizing and politics become a purposeful set of integrated processes aimed at the creation of new forms of life in the here and now, thus organizing is politics is identity. Our study presents a number of challenges and possibilities to scholars of organization, enabling them to extend their understanding of organization and identity in the contemporary world.

"The article explores the contours of multiple identities in contrast to singular identities in situations of social complexity and cultural diversity. Nyamnjoh's concepts of 'incompleteness' and 'frontier Africans' imply an alternative approach to identity formation. Although the formation of one's own, singular identity is a necessary stage in the development of each individual, it has specific limitations. This is especially true in situations of complexity and diversity and where the achievement of social cohesion is an important goal. With reference to existing theories of identity formation, an alternative framework is proposed that is more appropriate for the dynamic, open-ended nature of identity and better suited to encourage the enrichment of identity. The role of imagination, a strategy for crossing borders (with reference to Clingman's concept of a 'grammar of identity'), the search for commonality, and the effect of historical memory are discussed. Enriched and multiple identities are not achieved by replacement or exchange, but by widening (existing) singular identities into a more inclusive and diverse understanding of the self." ABSTRAK Muslim Javanese village is one of the muslim community often called as migrant communities or minority in Denpasar. In the 2014 legislative elections, muslim Javanese village has been successful delivering one of their representative from Partai Keadilan Sejahtera (PKS) as a member of Denpasar legislator. Political phenomena of muslim Javanese village with their identity, raising political identity to be utilize political parties, specifically PKS in Denpasar as a tool of political struggle. The purpose of this study is to determine and describe the political identity of muslim Javanese village to PKS in Denpasar city. The method for this research is descriptive qualitative. The data collection are using the method of observation, in-depth interview, and documents. The conclusion of this research is the political identity of muslim Javanese village to PKS done by affiliated become cadre, rooter, and PKS voter. AbstractLanguage is often seen as an important symbol and marker of identity. The relationship between the two especially comes to the fore in the experience of immigrants who often must negotiate competing pressures on their identities and language usage. In this article we examine the link between language and identity through an exploration of the lived experiences of four Chinese individuals in South Africa. Drawing on interview data, we examine their language and identity shifts and the factors driving such shifts (or lack thereof). Our analysis reveals multiple degrees and expressions of Chinese identity, of which language is sometimes but not always relevant. We find that social and historical contexts shape the needs and motivations of the individual, who often uses language strategically and flexibly to emphasise or understate particular identities. We conclude that the situational view of the language-identity relation is more appropriate to explain the weak and strong language-identity links that occur at the micro-level.

Being a Bosnian – Axiological Attributes of the Bosnian Identity
The paper tackles the issue of contemporary, multicultural Bosnian society and the role played by axiological sphere in the process of establishing own cultural identity. Historical background of the Bosnian nation – and statehood establishment is necessary to provide a complete picture of the factors involved in identity‑shaping processes, basing on the axiological foundation that is worked out by the Bosnian society members during daily basis interactions. The research part presents excerpts from interviews carried out for the purpose of own research on Bosnian identity, reflecting the attitudes of Bosnian society towards the reconstruction of the meanings related to Bosnian identity as well as elements of the axiology on borderlands, enabling the society members to perceive the cultural sense of being a Boshnjak, indispensible while establishing own identity. Moreover, the presented research reveals the set of values shared by different representatives of Bosnian society, who – thanks to such common axiological foundation – are able to strike up intercultural relations.

AbstractA popular maxim in South Africa, a legacy of apartheid thinking, is that the Coloured population does not possess an ethnic identity and that, secondly, in post‐apartheid popular thought, that the group does not embrace the collective national identity. The aim of this article is to demonstrate that the Coloured population is not a homogenous group in terms of political thought and primary language, and yet the group reflects ethnic consciousness. The study focused on a population sample (n = 215) in the port city of Port Elizabeth, where the majority of Coloured people in the Eastern Cape Province are located. The findings revealed that the majority of the Coloured population support collective national identity. Another finding is that a significant proportion of the Coloured population regard their ethnic identity as salient. The conclusions drawn were, firstly, that the group showed 'extreme' identity preferences rather than dual identities; secondly, that language played a role in determining the primary collective identity amongst the group.

We know that organizations of different but related kinds greatly influence each other's evolution. Although empirical findings abound, the theories behind them are still being developed. We advance a model of ecological interdependence between emergent and established populations. Our model is based on three main ideas. First, we consider related populations to be those that overlap in identity and resource space and that simultaneously exhibit competitive and mutualistic relationships, the latter leading to legitimacy transfer. Second, we build on the idea that legitimated forms codify prescriptive sanctions for deviations from identity blueprints, and predict that when an emergent population overlaps with an established one in identity space, its early proliferation will manifest violations of established social identities and will trigger prescriptive sanctions. Third, we rely on the notion of a focused identity to argue that organization-level changes affect external perceptions of the population's collective identity, and hamper legitimacy. Analysis of the survival rates of financial cooperatives in Singapore—a population overlapping the identity and resources of commercial banks—confirms our predictions.

Using a set of semi-structured intensive interviews, I analyze the narrative accounts of racial identity transformation among twenty-six white men as they move between mostly white and black social geographies. As the respondents moved into mostly black social geographies, they consistently noted that they felt "racial" or "white." Feeling racialized in mostly black areas was a marked contrast to how the respondents' normally interpreted their identity. Apart from this context, the overwhelming majority of respondents often felt "nonracial," or what I call the identity of sovereign individuality. To interpret this dynamic, context-specific process of identity transformation, I employ social cartography, postcolonialism, poststructuralism, and psychoanalysis to provide a "map" of how racial identity is linked to broader productions of power and knowledge. The result of this interpretive framework demonstrates how such seemingly mundane acts of moving across physical space highlight the context-specific ways white men must periodically confront being interpreted as privileged, as their identity is transformed from "nonracial" to "racial."

This paper discusses certain political aspects of constructing local and regional identities, in order to grasp the ways these processes are related to different fields of power in society. It shows how local and regional identities are shaped in relation to state politics as well as to local traditions in concrete places, taking a marginal area of inland Sweden as an example. There is a marked and definite difference between the local and the regional in the construction of identity: at the local level, identity is formed through shared everyday practices and reflections, while at the regional level, it is part of a conscious and organized political process. Even if both types of identity may be interpreted as expressions of opposition, this paper shows that local identity seems to be of a refractory kind, while the more consciously organized regional identity may be viewed as an expression of resistance. In this second case, regional identity is undergoing a process of ethnification, creating a mythology of a people with rights to a specific territory.

Using the example of "woman athletes," or more specifically, women basketball players, this is a case study in the management of contradictory essential and relational identities. Two types of data are used. Survey data demonstrates member understanding of the social identity of "female athlete"; observational data illustrates the management of incongruent identities on three stages: the woman athlete on the basketball court, the athletic woman attending a formal dinner, and the metamorphosis of identities in the locker room. The results indicate that even though the identity of female athlete is, by definition, deviant, it offers a positive alternative to the deviant identity of woman. However, this study demonstrates that in order for an actor to achieve this identity of female athlete she must be willing and able to consistently manage the dilemmas and contradictions inherent in the role itself. That is, this study demonstrates how female athletes must simultaneously uphold loyalty to both the essential identity of female as well as to the relational identity of athlete.

The massive means of communication seek to influence permanently the topics that are priority for the hearings, hence it is necessary to study how they carry out strategies that allow them to determine the importance and relevancy of the information. From the theory of Framing, in the fields of identity of social movements, it is possible to identify and to reveal informative strategies of the mass media. This article analyzes the conformation and transformation of the fields of identity of the actors involved in the removal of state immunity from prosecution (desafuero) of the Mexico City's Chief of Government, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, for two Mexican newspapers: La Jornada and Reforma. Journalistic tools were used by those newspapers to influence the perception of their audiences, therefore they were not only information transmitters ; Los medios de comunicación buscan permanentemente influir en los temas que son prioritarios para las audiencias, por lo que es necesario estudiar cómo llevan a cabo estrategias que les permiten determinar la importancia y relevancia de la información. A partir de la teoría del Framing, en los campos de identidad de los movimientos sociales, es posible identificar y desvelar estrategias informativas de los mass media. Este artículo analiza la conformación y transformación de los campos de identidad de los actores involucrados en el desafuero del Jefe de Gobierno del Distrito Federal, Andrés Manuel López Obrador (AMLO), por dos diarios mexicanos La Jornada y Reforma. The article analyzes and characterizes the content, empirics of scientific research and the practice of implementing the methodological foundations of the political culture of students, as the basis for the formation of a civic national identity and ultimately the formation of the unity of the Russian nation. The relevance of the article is due to the aggravation of the socio-political situation in the Russian Federation in recent years, which is associated with an increase in the need for peaceful resolution of conflicts, the need for preparation for civic participation in the life of society and the state, and the insufficient level of political culture of all participants in the events. It is shown that at present, the educational system of Russia contains a large-scale error of violating ideological continuity between basic general / secondary / education and higher professional education. In particular, the Federal State Standard for Basic General Education dated 2010.12.10 indicates the orientation of education in the Russian Federation "to ensure the formation of the Russian civic identity of students", but the Federal State Educational Standard on humanitarian directions of training do not have the ideological principles contained in the standards of general and secondary education and including in the Constitution of the Russian Federation. The research problem is connected with the search for methodological foundations for the implementation of the requirements of educational standards and the continuity in higher education of the formation of the Russian civiс identity of students, their testing and dissemination of the progressive experience available in our country.

Majority-group members often hold negative attitudes toward minority-group members who identify with both the majority and their minority group. Integrating perspectives from social identity theory and acculturation research with a coalitional psychology framework, we show that an underlying mechanism for such bias is the perception that dual identifiers are disloyal to the majority group. In Study 1, majority-group participants in the U.S. questioned the loyalty of a dually identified Arab immigrant more than one who identified solely with the (American) majority group, especially under intergroup threat, which in turn predicted less favorable feelings toward the immigrant. Study 2 conceptually replicated the effect of the identity manipulation and the mediating influence of perceived loyalty on judgments about an immigrant being allowed to enlist in the U.S. military. Study 3, partially replicated the findings in Poland, focusing on Russian immigrants as targets. In Study 4, which independently manipulated both the identity expressed by immigrants and their loyalty, a dually identified immigrant whose loyalty to the majority group was portrayed as high was not judged as less qualified than an immigrant who identified only with the majority group for jobs with the potential to inflict damage on the majority group. Study 5, replicated and extended the previous studies in the context of fans of allied or rival soccer teams in Germany, revealing the moderating role of existing group relations on the hypothesized loyalty processes. In summary, coalitionally driven perceptions of (dis)loyalty appear to undergird bias toward minority-group members who hold dual identifications.
