"The charge of inauthenticity has dogged Hillary Clinton from the moment she entered the national spotlight. Shawn J. Parry-Giles examines questions about the authenticity and political image-making of the the former first lady-turned-senator-turned presidential candidate and the media's representation of her as one of "the most loved and hated presidential wives in American history." Parry-Giles tracks Clinton as she assumed an array of roles from surrogate campaigner, legislative advocate, and financial investor to international emissary, scorned wife, and political candidate. After the 1992 campaign, the health care debate, and the Whitewater controversy, a familiar news framing developed, which disparaged Clinton for her outspoken, overly visible political presence. In this backlash, news frames stressed her transgressions in overstepping the boundaries of authentic womanhood and first lady comportment. During the Lewinsky scandal, the victimhood frame furthered her characterization as a scorned woman admonished to the private sphere as wife and mother. Parry-Giles' longitudinal study magnifies how the coverage that preceded Clinton's entry into electoral politics was grounded in her earliest presence in the national spotlight. Most disturbingly, once Clinton vied for office in her right, the news exuded a rhetoric of sexual violence, motivated by portrayals of her as an inauthentic political woman acting outside the confines of her gender. While Clinton's defiance was awe-inspiring and precedent setting, the magnitude of the disciplining and harsh rhetoric that she faced served as a warning to other women who dared to enter the political arena and violate the protocols of authentic womanhood"--

The article describes the history of the publication of the final 4 volum of the collection of "Letters" by V.S. Solovyov, published in 1923, in Soviet time, 15 years after the publication began (vol. 1) and 12 years after the release of the previous one (vol. 3), which, as is known, planned to complete the publication of the available at that moment of the philosopher's letters. The acquisition of new letters prompted the historian of philosophy Ernest Lvovich Radlov (1854–1928), a friend and like-minded Solovyov, the permanent compiler and editor of the published volumes of his letters, to begin in 1919‒1920 in other cultural and historical conditions to prepare the 4th volume. The difficult history of the publication of the final volume has not yet received sufficient coverage in the literature about the philosopher. The publication of the surviving letters to Radlov the Editor-in-chief of the cooperative association "Vremya" G.P. Blok who worked on this volume during 1920–1923, to some extent illuminate the publishing process and the difficulties that arose during the preparation. Despite the fact that Radlov's response letters to the Block have not yet been revealed, the details reported in the letters allow us to restore the overall picture of both scientific and technical publishing work on the volume.

Jane Barker's novel Exilius: or, the Banish'd Roman (1715) has a good deal to tell us about understandings of genre and narration, about notions of the public sphere, about the practice of political discourse, and about conceptions of authorship in the late seventeenth and early eighteenth centuries. The 2016 U.S. Presidential Election has raised urgent questions about the role knowledge plays in conservative politics. Scholars are turning their attention to the proliferation of "fake news" on the internet and what might be a new era of "post-truth" politics in the United States. Political sociologists suggest the possibility that conservatives in the United States belong to numerous "epistemic cultures," though none have done the long-term observational work necessary to investigate this claim. For my dissertation, I draw on four years of ethnographic research with conservative political organizations located in San Diego and Orange County, California, to analyze how participants involved in conservative political organizations develop and habituate epistemic practices. I find that participants in conservative organizations engage in knowledge production as a secondary activity anchored in primary practical concerns that vary by type of organization. I demonstrate how people within organizations develop coherent sets of epistemic practices by acting in relation to common sets of practical problems, the formal and relational aspects of an organization (including the organization's relation to a broader party apparatus), and the cultural context that they produce themselves. I further demonstrate how people habituate practices that are incommensurate across types of organizations, to the extent they limit a person's ability to build relationships with people involved in different conservative political organizations within the same political scene.
