International audience ; istinctively political normative judgements that have nothing to do with morality. The irst ground is instrumental normativity, which states that if we believe that something is a necessary means to a goal we have, we have a reason to do it. In politics, certain means are required by any ends we may intend to pursue. The second ground is epistemic normativity, stating that if something is (empirically) true, this gives us a reason to believe it. In politics, there are certain empirical regularities that ought to be acknowledged for what they are. Both sources are lawed. Instrumental normativity only requires coherence between attitudes and beliefs, and one can hang on to false beliefs to preserve attitudes incompatible with reality. I may desire to eschew power relations, and accordingly I may imagine politics to be like a camping trip. Epistemic normativity, on the other hand, operates critically, striking down existing normative claims. It shows us that politics is nothing like a camp-ing trip, but it doesn't tell us what we should do about it (beyond abandoning some false beliefs). We conclude by showing that if the two are taken together, they remedy each other's laws.

In Kenya very little research has been carried out on the effect of the size of the informal sector on tax performance. Failure to raise adequate tax revenue from the increasing informal sector implies the government should either resort to unpopular tax rates increases or public debt. Each of these approaches has ramification on the economy. To come with relevant policies, it is important to understand the link between size of the informal sector and tax revenue performance. This paper estimates the effect of the size of the informal sector on tax revenue performance in Kenya for the period 1970-2018. On testing for stationarity, the study establishes a mixture of I (0) and I (1) variables thus suggesting the use of Autoregressive Distributed Lag model. The finding indicates that the size of the informal sector negatively influences tax revenue in Kenya. This implies that the informal sector's output may be increasing but little tax is generated from it. The finding also has implications for the conduct of the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA). To reduce the size of the informal sector, KRA should increase surveillance to identify economic activities that fall within the tax bracket and tap tax revenue from them.

Between April 2019 and September 2020, 23,001 people aged 15 or over responded to questions about their health and living conditions for the German Health Update (GEDA 2019/2020-EHIS). The results are representative of the German resident population aged 15 or above. The response rate was 21.6%. The study used a questionnaire based on the third wave of the European Health Interview Survey (EHIS), which was carried out in all EU member states. EHIS consists of four modules on health status, health care provision, health determinants, and socioeconomic variables. The data are collected in a harmonised manner and therefore have a high degree of international comparability. They constitute an important source of information for European health policy and health reporting and are made available by the Statistical Office of the European Union (Eurostat). They also form the basis of the Federal Health Reporting undertaken in Germany. Data collection began in April 2019, just under a year before the beginning of the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic, and continued into its initial phase, as of March 2020. As such, data from the current GEDA wave can also be used to conduct research into the health impact of the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic.

Purpose This paper aims to investigate the extent to which locating primary industry subsidiaries in politically unstable countries impacts their survival. The authors argue that foreign multinational enterprises in less stable political environments can shape policies that are impactful on the costs of operating in primary industries and avoid compliance with more stringent policies at home. Design/methodology/approach Using a sample of 753 primary sector investments of Japanese multinational enterprises during the period 1986 to 2013, the authors conduct a parametric survival analysis of the relationship between political stability and subsidiary survival. Findings Political instability has a slight, curvilinear relationship with subsidiary survival, such that both high and low stability are associated with lower exit hazard, while moderate levels of stability increased exit hazard. This nonlinear relationship is stronger for efficiency-seeking subsidiaries, and weaker for market-seeking subsidiaries. Originality/value This research contributes to the debate around the pros and cons of globalization by examining the extent to which firms benefit by offshoring primary sector investments to avoid more costly legal requirements at home. The results suggest that this non-market strategy should be mitigated through appropriate policy measures and provides evidence that those policies already implemented are effective.

Global manufacturing businesses have contributed to energy and resource consumption, pollution. Along with governmental legislation, social and market pressure that growing as awareness about environmental issues increases. To tackle such problems the study focuses on the analysis of the direct consequence of Green Manufacturing (GM) practices on operational performance in the manufacturing industry. A model for evaluating the effect of GM is developed taking into consideration as a fundamental variable that affects the causal relationship between GM practices and operational performance. A structural equation model was proposed and investigated across the manufacturing industry in India. A structured survey questionnaire was used to gather empirical data from 400 Indian companies. A total of 203 usable responses were obtained giving a response rate of 53%. The data was analyzed using SPSS- AMOS software. The results revealed that GM practices directly and positively affected operational performance. The results indicated that the structural equation model remained invariant across the Industry. The implementation of Green practices in manufacturing has been recognized as a mean to improve economic and environmental performance that increases competitiveness and urge innovation. The study provides further evidence to managers and practitioners on the effect of GM practices on operational performance in developing countries like India.

The sociocultural contexts of higher education institutions form the background for gender-based violence in professional structures and environment of academia. The article presents a comparative analysis of sexual violence and the reasons for its (non-)disclosure at the piloting universities in Lithuania and Cyprus. The findings of focus group interviews conducted within the framework of the Ending Sexual Harassment and Violence in Third Level Education (ESHTE) project, co-funded by the European Union, have been summarized in the present research. The focus group participants from each partner university involved university teachers, administrative staff, counselors and university students. The research was conducted during a 3-month period between 2017 and 2018. The main aim was to investigate university staffs' and students' experiences in the disclosures of the cases of sexual violence and harassment (SVH) in university environment and campus, as well as their awareness of existing procedures and policies in handling the cases of SVH. The results of this study discovered both universities' academic and administrative staff and students' personal experiences, attitudes and beliefs of SVH, as well as any of their suggestions towards the improvement of disclosures of SVH are discussed in the article.

M & A fund is one category of private equity investment fund. In the past 25 years, private equity fund has grown into a considerable asset section. Since 2008, China's economy has experienced the pounding pain of structural transformation multiplied with other challenges, e.g. international economy's lack of growth momentum, increased trade friction, aging population and so on. The trade friction between China and the United States has further exacerbated. Against this backdrop, from September 2018, there was a significant shift in the domestic central government's economic policy, particularly the capital market policy, has undergone major changes with the repressed capital market elevated to an unprecedented strategic level. M & A, as a crucial means to optimize the social resources allocation and enhance the efficiency of social capital utility, has been given great expectations by the government. This study mainly discusses the role of M & A fund in China's economic transformation, and a medium-term development road-map of M & A fund under the new capital market policies today. After thorough research, data statistics and analysis, a potentially feasible M & A fund domestic development strategy is proposed to meet the needs of current economy and development.

This N = 173,426 social science dataset was collected through the collaborative COVIDiSTRESS Global Survey – an open science effort to improve understanding of the human experiences of the 2020 COVID-19 pandemic between 30th March and 30th May, 2020. The dataset allows a cross-cultural study of psychological and behavioural responses to the Coronavirus pandemic and associated government measures like cancellation of public functions and stay at home orders implemented in many countries. The dataset contains demographic background variables as well as measures of Asian Disease Problem, perceived stress (PSS-10), availability of social provisions (SPS-10), trust in various authorities, trust in governmental measures to contain the virus (OECD trust), personality traits (BFF-15), information behaviours, agreement with the level of government intervention, and compliance with preventive measures, along with a rich pool of exploratory variables and written experiences. A global consortium from 39 countries and regions worked together to build and translate a survey with variables of shared interests, and recruited participants in 47 languages and dialects. There has been a significant increase in communication activities between internet users in online media due to the increase in social media users. For instance, Twitter users may send messages via their tweets. However, tweets can also contain negative meanings. Therefore, it deserves special attention as it has the potential to contain hate speech. Even the government deems it necessary to publish regulations to deal with hate speech cases such as the Information and Electronic Transactions Law (ITE Law) issued in 2018 Article 28 paragraph 2 of the Hate Speech. Machine Learning (ML) is one of the techniques that can be used in identifying patterns. There are various types of data that ML can be applied to, including text (known as Text Analytic). Previous research has used the Support Vector Machine (SVM) method to identify hate speech on Twitter text with more than one label (multilabel). The purpose of this study was to identify hate speech on Twitter with a label of more than one (multilabel) via Convolutional Neural Network (CNN). The study obtained the best CNN model with an accuracy of 98.76% from the multi-label dataset on hate speech in Indonesian texts

This thesis investigates the role of gender violence and sexual terror in westward settler expansion of the United States in the nineteenth century. I posit that gender violence was not simply a symptom of war and colonization, but an integral piece of the American colonization strategy. Using studies of three locations during three different periods, I have found that the local, territorial, state, and federal governments all actively deployed sexual assault and other forms of gendered terror as methods of removing Indigenous peoples to reservations and rancherías, opening their lands to settlement and resource exploitation for the purpose of acquiring wealth and power for both individuals and the state itself. Through the lens of critical Indigenous feminist studies and utilizing the theories of Indigenous woman scholars, I have made connections between historical violence and the current crisis of violence against Indigenous women, girls, queer, trans, and two-spirit people, and, in particular, their abduction and murder, colloquially known as MMIWGQ2ST. While my research findings are oftentimes quite dark, I highlight the survival and resistance (survivance) of Indigenous women and girls and the hope on the horizon for decolonization, justice, and healing.

Inadequate revenue generation impedes economic growth. The issue has lacked attention from academics. Therefore, this study focuses on the relationship between revenue generation and economic growth in Nigeria. It employed time series data sourced from the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) from 1981-2018. The study used multiple regression to estimate the impact of government revenue mobilization on economic growth in Nigeria. Findings revealed that domestic debts and non-oil revenue positively and significantly impact economic growth, while external debts and oil revenue were otherwise. The study concluded that government revenue impacts economic growth. Consequently, the study recommends economic diversification through strategic programs to enhance growth rather than remaining a mono-economy. Furthermore, it recommends that the government review the existing revenue mobilization strategy– especially the diverse non-oil revenue bases to ensure improved revenue remittances. The study also recommended formulating policies that will guarantee better utilization of domestic and foreign loans to increase productivity and enhance revenue mobilization. It is also recommended that borrowing be considered a last resort to fund government projects, and where it is unavoidable, such borrowing should be limited to domestic debt.

This study aims to determine the determinants of foreign direct investment (FDI) in Indonesia's manufacturing sector. This study uses time-series data with 40 data observations starting from the 1st quarter of 2010 to the 4th quarter of 2020. The data analysis method employed in this research was Autoregressive Distributed Lag (ARDL) cointegration approach. The research results were that in the long run, the exchange rate and GDP growth had a positive effect, inflation had a negative effect, and gross fixed capital formation did not affect the FDI inflows in the manufacturing sector. This research implies that the government must be able to create or develop policies related to foreign direct investment to provide benefits for economic development in Indonesia. The government's efforts to control inflation have to be strengthened continuously by maintaining the availability of supply and distribution of goods. Supply continuity and smooth distribution between regions have to be further improved through the utilization of information technology and the strengthening of inter-regional cooperation. Likewise, efforts to increase economic growth have to continue to be improved by providing incentives or facilities to companies at various levels, both those that are export-oriented and those that focus on domestic sales.

This paper focuses on fiscal deficit and Nigeria's economic growth. To achieve the objective of this study diagnostic check and unit root test using Phillips perron was employed to investigate time series data and to test the stationarity of the time series of the variables. Johansen co-integration analysis and Error Correction Model (ECM) are employed to test for a relationship between or among variables. The paper concludes that the driving variables of economic growth in Nigeria were Public external debt-PEXD, total federal collection revenue-TFCR, and interest rate-INTR. The public deficit financing was determined based on the study by the variables of Government expenditure (GOVE), real GDP, exchange rate-EXCR. The best model of ECM to determine the impact of fiscal deficit in Nigeria is the interaction with economic growth performance measures in Nigeria. The findings confirm that one standard deviation of shocks of fiscal deficit has a significant influence on economic growth, hence confirming the long-run relationship. The search recommended that Government should set its priority rights, be more committed to the budget implementation, and pay more attention to capital expenditure geared towards economic growth.
