Parochial Global Europe focuses centrally on modern, 21st century trade policy. It also sheds light on the EU as a global actor by analysing its use of trade policy as a tool of foreign policy from promoting development, to encouraging human rights and environmental protection, to punishing security threats.

"City Politics has received praise for the clarity of its writing, careful research, and distinctive theme - that urban politics in the United States has evolved as a dynamic interaction between governmental power, private actors, and a politics of identity. The book's enduring appeal lies in its persuasive explanation, careful attention to historical detail, and accessible and elegant way of teaching the complexity and breadth of urban and regional politics which unfold at the intersection of spatial, cultural, economic, and policy dynamics. This 11th edition has been thoroughly updated while retaining the popular structure of past editions. Key updates include: Individual chapters introducing students to pressing urban issues such as race and racism, gentrification, sustainability and the environment, urban crises, shrinking cities, immigration, and suburbanization, political polarization, and the COVID-19 pandemic's impact on cities. The most recent census data integrated throughout to provide current figures for analysis, discussion, and a more nuanced understanding of current trends. The effects of the events of 2020 on cities - namely the Coronavirus pandemic; the murder of George Floyd and its aftermath, and the growth of the Black Lives Matter Movement; and the US presidential election in November. The new and present challenges of the climate crisis, and its growing significance for cities. Taught on its own, or supplemented with the optional reader American Urban Politics in a Global Age for more advanced readers, City Politics remains the definitive text on urban politics - and how they have evolved in the US over time. This is a comprehensive resource for a new generation of undergraduate and graduate students, as well as established researchers in the discipline. This book is accompanied by eResources: www.routledge.com/9781032006352"--

"Staging 21st Century Tragedies: Theatre, Politics, and Global Crisis is an international collection of essays by leading academics, artists, writers, and curators examining ways in which the global tragedies of our century are being negotiated in current theatre practice. In exploring the tragic in the fields of history and theory of theatre, the book approaches crisis through an understanding of the existential and political aspect of the tragic condition. Using an interdisciplinary perspective, it showcases theatre texts and productions that enter the public sphere, manifesting notably participatory, immersive, and documentary modes of expression to form a theatre of modern tragedy. The coexistence of scholarly essays with manifesto-like provocations, interviews, original plays, and diaries by theatre artists provides a rich and multifocal lens that allows readers to approach 21st century theatre through historical and critical study, text and performance analysis, and creative processes. Of special value is the global scope of the collection, embracing forms of crisis theatre in many geographically diverse regions of both the East and the West. Staging 21st Century Tragedies: Theatre, Politics, and Global Crisis will be of use and interest to academics and students of political theatre, applied theatre, theatre history, and theatre theory"--

"Today, the human race seems to have encountered more threats than it had ever faced any time before in modern history. Humanity thus is at a crossroads with respect to dealing with multiple threats that endangered preservation of the human species itself: poverty, widespread violence, dangerous illnesses, environmental catastrophes, and social break down are some of these among others. Among the most recommended available solutions to overcome these crises are how to manage crises themselves, which probably include managing resources, power, knowledge, and whatever. Spreading Investment and financial transfers to the South, where 85 per cent of humanity dwell is assumed to generate income, create work opportunity, and spark hope of sustainable development. Moreover, if improved technologies are being shared and international policies coordinated to address economic, environmental, discrimination, and health concerns, these would be even more productive. However, while current genuine international cooperation and trust between actors is diminishing, senseless talk about peace and security are in the air as well, sounding instead fearful, suspicious, conflict producing and even more mistrustful overall. The outset of the 21st century doesn't seem to offer anything to ensure the wellbeing of most of mankind, even though today in international politics, transnational interest groups are gaining clout. However, they lack an institution to represent them. Thus civil society must push on to make its many voices heard, in order to reflect and realize the notion of the global era needing a global parliament to address outstanding issues."
