AbstractThis paper draws on the emerging field of innovation ethics (IE) to complement the more established field of responsible innovation (RI) by focusing on key ethical issues raised by technological innovations. One key limitation of influential frameworks of RI is that they tend to neglect some key ethical issues raised by innovation, as well as major normative dimensions of the notion of responsibility. We explain how IE could enrich RI by stressing the more important role that ethical analysis should play in RI. We focus on two transversal issues of IE: the issue of redrawing conceptual boundaries, especially the topic of the artificialization of the world, and the issue of responsibility, especially the notion of total responsibility. We address these two issues from the thematic perspective of IE, thereby generating lessons learnt for RI. These two examples are taken as illustrations and blueprint of the dialogue that should take place between the two fields.
How does Open Innovation (OI) change the innovation behavior of companies and what is the impact of OI on universities, research institutions and public funding of innovation in Germany? This thesis aims to define and explain the main features of OI, outline advantages and disadvantages, present available statistics and discuss consequences for the national innovation system and public research. Document analysis and internet research is used to examine how OI is taken into account at universities, research institutions and in innovation funding. Conclusions are verified with expert interviews. Results show that OI is increasingly common in companies, but universities, research institutions, academic organizations and science management have hardly dealt with OI as a strategic mission. Public research and innovation funding currently provide little support for opening innovation processes in companies, universities and research institutions. The thesis offers recommendations for universities, research institutions and innovation funding and identifies areas for further research.

This issue addresses the impact of the innovative process in the contemporary economic climate. Corporate Strategists are being challenged in the area of Strategy Formulation due to disruptive technologies which dilute the traditional industry boundaries. As such, the question has moved from what do we produce..to what need do we serve? The hitherto familiar industry classification method is no longer adequate due to innovation from multiple industry sectors wishing to serve similar customer needs
