This paper purposed to analyse the efficacy of the Chichewa version of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) that the government of Malawi, through the Department of Information, recently produced. Language barrier remains one of the main reasons for the SDGs' unpopularity among the majority of Africans. This leaves most Africans unengaged in the goals' implementation process. Mindful of this, many African countries have embarked on projects to translate the SDGs into indigenous African languages. In Malawi, the SDGs were translated into the local languages in 2018. This study sought to conduct a quick review of the entire project to ascertain its effectiveness against the background that previous translations of various policy and other public documents are replete with substantial communicative flaws. How then was the project to translate the SDGs into Chichewa uniquely designed to ensure positive outcomes? What strategies did the translators use to ensure effective localisation of the SDG document given its international nature? To answer these and other key questions, the researchers collected data through Key Informant interviews and document analysis. The data was analysed within the framework of Farrahi Avval's taxonomy of communication strategies. The study found that both linguistic and non-linguistic communication strategies were used in the translation. Both of these strategies were marred by serious shortcomings that have the potential to prevent effective communication from taking place. The study, thus, concludes that the information in the Chichewa version of the United Nations' SDGs remains largely inaccessible to the illiterate and semiliterate Malawians.

Village Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are sustainable development goals that are integrated into the priority program for the use of village funds in 2021. Village SDGs are expected to be a reference for village development in 2020-2024. However, with all the limitations that exist in the village, both human resources and institutions, there are still obstacles in its application. The purpose of this study is to examine the collaboration model as a policy strategy in preparing SDGs-based village development plans and programs. The method used in this study uses qualitative methods. Data collection was carried out through observation and interviews as well as existing documentation. The process of data analysis through reduction and presentation of data and conclusions. The results showed that the cross-sectoral collaboration that involved the power of Penta Helix had not been implemented in order to significantly contribute to village development and cross-sector collaboration was not designed in rural areas. The upper level government, namely the district, also does not have a collaborative mechanism to integrate SDGs with development plans down to the village level. Cross-sectoral collaboration mechanisms in the process of integrating Village SDGs into village development planning, Bontolanra Village, Galesong Utara District, Takalar Regency.

India is a vast country with huge size of population and half of the population is living under poverty & inequality. Indias big share of population is struggling for basic amenities and there is a need of collaborative efforts of both government and corporate sector. In India Sustainable Development Goals (here after SDGs) and Corporate social Responsibility (hereafter CSR) are the most powerful tools to deal with social issues. CSR seems like a powerful framework for corporate sector to engage in achieving SDGs to a certain extent. In 2015 India adopted the 17 sustainable development goals with 169 targets and in 2014 CSR policy came with social initiatives. The idea behind linking CSR & SDGs is the thematic social sectors included in both of them.The activities which are included in schedule VII of companies act having lot of overlap with the thematic areas of sustainable development goals and thats why there has seen tremendous potential of both tools to develop a model for sustainable growth. Till date from 2014 to 2020 corporate sector contributed Rs. 59,505 cr. in CSR activities which are directly related to SDGs. So, this paper focus on the concept of leveraging CSR practices because working on CSR practices will ultimately help in achieving SDGs to higher extent.

The 2030 UN Agenda for Sustainable Development of 2015 prominently stresses that "the SDGs are integrated and indivisible and balance the three dimensions of sustainable development: the economic, social and environmental" (UN [United Nations], 2015, p. 3). Behind this statement lies a reality of complex interlinkages between the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and their targets, the implementation of which may produce synergies but also trade-offs. Another innovative trait of the 2030 Agenda is its strong commitment to the "quality of governance". While the debate about the necessary elements of governance continues, most definitions today include inclusive and participatory decision-making, accountability, and transparency as its key institutional characteristics. These characteristics have been enshrined as targets under SDG 16 on "Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions" that are not only considered desirable outcomes but also as enablers of all other SDGs. Yet another central, transformative promise of the 2030 Agenda is to Leave No One Behind (LNOB), which requires the participation of all segments of society to contribute to its implementation. There is broad consensus in contemporary academic and policy debates that innovative governance approaches will be essential to achieve an integrated implementation of the interlinked SDGs and to fulfil the LNOB commitment. A more recent debate, which has gained traction since the 26th UN Climate Change Conference in 2021, focuses on the just transition towards climate-just, equitable and inclusive societies. At the centre of this debate lies the understanding that governments will be unable to gain public support for the prioritisation of climate actions if they do not succeed in drastically reducing poverty and inequality. It will be necessary that just climate transition be based on the principles of procedural, distributional and recognitional justice. So far, these two debates have run in parallel without cross-fertilising each other. This Policy Brief makes the case that the debate on just transition has much to gain from the academic findings generated by research on the role of governance in managing SDG interlinkages. It is based on a recent study by IDOS and the UNDP Oslo Governance Centre (UNDP OGC) that collates empirical evidence on the effects of governance qualities (SDG 16) on the reduction of poverty (SDG 1) and inequalities (SDG 10) (DIE* & UNDP OGC, 2022). The study finds that: • Improved levels of participation and inclusion are positively associated with poverty reduction; • Higher levels of access to information, transparency and accountability help to improve access to basic services and targeting of social protection policies. These findings provide policymakers with an empirical basis to argue that investments in the achievement of the governance targets of SDG 16 can act as catalysts for interventions seeking to reduce poverty and inequalities. Against this backdrop, this Policy Brief argues that the governance targets of SDG 16 are not only institutional preconditions for the reduction of poverty and inequalities but also contribute towards just transitions. More specifically: they are institutions that contribute towards the justice principles that constitute the basis of just transition and exhibit the governance qualities postulated by SDG 16. It is important to note that debates on the quality of governance and just transition do not take place in a political vacuum. In view of global trends towards auto-cratisation (V-Dem 2022), the empirical findings regarding the enabling governance effects on poverty and inequality reduction carry the important policy implication that action to support just transition will in all likelihood be more successful if accompanied by proactive measures to protect and support democratic institutions and processes.

The main purpose of the study is to analyse and define the position of the Baltic States, i.e. Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia regarding the implementation level of the concept of sustainable development in 2010-2016, measured by the realisation of Sustainable Development Goals (SDG). Moreover, the problems constituting barriers in achieving these goals were identified. The study was based on the indicators monitoring SDG in a global perspective. Eurostat and its Database was the source of data, taking into account their availability and completeness. The synthetic measure of development (SMD) was applied to assess the implementation of the sustainable development concept. The socio-economic situation of the Baltic States was addressed in the introduction. The core part of the study presents the research results showing the position of the Baltic States relative to the implementation level of SDG. The value of SMD in individual years was determined for each of the analysed countries. As a general conclusion, it can be stated that the situation of all countries showed improvement over the analysed period. Nonetheless, the current situation cannot be described as favourable in any of the countries, Estonia was the closest to achieving this status.

This study aims to analyze the policies of the Muhammadiyah women's organization, Aisyiyah, in Gorontalo region in the fields of education, economics, and health in empowering women and their involvement in the global issue of Sustainable Development Goals. The research method used in is descriptive qualitative by collecting the data through interview and documentation techniques. The data are analyzed using the theory of Miles and Huberman which includes three stages namely, data reduction, display and data verification. The respondentswere determined using purposive sampling technique. The researchers interviewed the head, the secretary, and the tresure of Aisyiyah Gorontalo. Besides,the chair of the Primary and Secondary Education Assembly, Chair of the Higher Education Assembly, Chair of the Economic and Employment Assembly, Chair of the Social Welfare Council, Chair of the Health Assembly and other parties are also interviewed to strengthen the data. The results of this study indicate that the programs of Aisyiyah Gorontalo support the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals. The programs include activities to strengthen the field of public education, strengthening the economy and employment, and encourage creating health insurance for community and society.Artikel penelitian ini bertujuan menelaah kebijakan organisasi kewanitaan Muhammadiyah, Aisyiyah wilayah Gorontalo di bidang pendidikan, ekonomi, dan kesehatan dalammelakukan pemberdayaan terhadap perempuan dan keterlibatannya terhadap isu global Sustainable Development Goals. Metode penelitian yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini yaitu kualitatif deskriptif dengan pengumpulan data melalui teknik wawancaradan dokumentasi. Pada tahapan analisis data, data ditelaah menggunakan teori dari Miles and Huberman yang meliputi tiga tahapan yaitu, reduksi data, display dan verifikasi data. Subjek penelitian ditentukan dengan menggunakan teknik purposive sampling yakni teknik pengambilan sampel dengan pertimbangan tertentu. Dalam penelitian ini, pihak-pihak yang diwawancarai antara lain ketua dan sekretaris wilayah Aisyiyah Gorontalo, ketua Majelis Pendidikan Dasar dan Menengah, Ketua Majelis Pendidikan Tinggi, Ketua Majelis Ekonomi dan Ketenagakerjaan, Ketua Majelis Kesejahteraan Sosial, Ketua Majelis Kesehatan dan pihak lain yang dibutuhkan untuk memperkuat data penelitian. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa terdapat program kerja Aisyiyah wilayah Gorontalo yang menunjang tercapainya Sustainable Development Goals. Program-program tersebut meliputi kegiatan penguatan bidang pendidikan masyarakat, penguatan ekonomi dan ketenagakerjaan, serta mendorong terbentuknya jaminan kesehatan bagi semua kalangan.

Implementing the 2030 Agenda in an integrated way poses new challenges to political institutions and processes. In order to exploit synergies and to mitigate trade-offs between the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), innovative governance approaches are needed.National bodies to coordinate SDG implementation were being created as of late 2015. As a basis for future analyses on effectiveness, it is important to know if, and which, institutional designs are in place to implement the SDGs and why they were chosen. Against this background, this Discussion Paper analyses how political factors influence institutional design choices when it comes to implementing the SDGs.The aim of this paper is twofold: First, it seeks to assess governments' proposals for institutional designs for SDG implementation at the national level and to identify patterns of institutional designs. It does so by analysing and coding the Voluntary National Reviews from 2016 and 2017 of 62 signatory states, including OECD and none-OECD countries from all world regions and income groups. Second, it aims to explain which political and socio-economic factors shaped these institutional designs.The empirical analysis shows that the majority of countries have opted for a design that promotes political support at the highest level and cross-sectoral, horizontal integration, but has significant shortcomings in terms of social inclusiveness and vertical coordination across different levels of government. When asking which determinants shape these patterns, our findings reveal that horizontal integration becomes more likely with higher socio-economic development. Moreover, we find that vertical integration and societal integration are interdependent and mutually enforcing. Based on our findings, we formulate policy recommendations regarding the institutional requirements for integrated SDG implementation.

The United Nations adopted the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) as part of the 2030 Agenda by the General Assembly on its seventieth session held in September 2015. The implementation of 17 goals and 169 targets requires whole-of-government approaches because the tar-gets of indicators are integrated and inter-connected. In particular, Goal 17 seeks to strengthen global partnerships to achieve the Agenda's goals, bringing together national governments, the international community, civil society, the private sector and other actors. Members of the OECD, including Germany, Finland and Norway, have already developed their own national strategies based on the UN SDGs. As for the Korean government, it was necessary to modify the 3rd General Plans for Sustainable Development (2016-2035) because the Plans previously set in 2016 had a different structure from the UN SDGs and did not specify targets. Accordingly, the Korean Sustainable Development Goals (hereinafter referred to as K-SDGs) have been set to complement such aspects of the UN SDGs and be supplemented after a social consensus process. In this regard, the K-SDGs have been established through a bottom-up approach rather than the existing top-down government approach.

Increased policy coherence and integrated implementation are necessary to address pressing development problems that cut across different sectors. Meeting these demands, as called for by the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, requires institutional innovation. Based on the comparative analysis of 137 countries, this paper investigates how governments have responded to this call and which contextual factors shape their institutional responses. We propose a four-dimensional typology to analyse the institutional set-ups for implementing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG), focusing on political leadership, horizontal integration across policy sectors, vertical integration across levels of government, and integration of societal stakeholders. We apply this framework to the descriptions of national SDG-implementation bodies provided by governments in their Voluntary National Review (VNRs) and use qualitative directed content analysis and regression modelling to investigate different driving factors of institutional design choices, including socio-economic development and political regime. Besides a strong commitment from the Centre of Government in most cases, our results show that ministries of the exterior and the environment have a dominant role, indicating that sustainability is not yet perceived holistically. Further, we find that the integration of subnational governments and societal actors is often under-institutionalised: while countries with higher levels of socio-economic development appear more likely to set up mechanisms suited to achieving cross-sectoral integration, political regime type seems to have little impact on institutional design choices for SDG implementation. Conceptually, this study offers a theory-led investigation of the institutional mechanisms for integrated SDG-implementation and the factors that drive institutional innovation or inertia. Empirically, by compiling the information in an original dataset, our study paves the way for future cross-national analysis on effective integrated SDG implementation and identifies entry points for inter- and transnational support of integrated SDG implementation in the context of development cooperation.
