Dalit children are generally marginal with respect to students of other categories, and their dropout rate is an alarming situation in India. Scholars, social scientists and educationists have tried to understand the reasons of student disengagement from the school system and have revealed various causes and given many varied suggestions that are related to a child's family background and socio-cultural background. Although several attempts have been made to understand the reasons for dropout, still it is not explored well. Also, cultural politics for dropout of particular group is not yet explored at the micro and macro levels. In this article, we try to understand how school, through its structures and ideology including textbook culture, influences student's decisions to stay out. This study also considers traditional explanations for understanding the socio-background behaviours of the children for dropout. At the same time, we try to understand the role of school in Dalit children dropout.

ABSTRACTMaking decisions regarding the selection of a business major is both very important and challenging for students. An understanding of this decision‐making process can be valuable for students, parents, and university programs. The current study applies the Theory of Reasoned Action (TRA) consumer decision‐making model to examine factors that influence college students' intentions to choose a business major. A total of 670 undergraduate students enrolled at a large midwestern university participated in the study. Social image, job availability, and aptitude were found to be significant factors that impact students' decisions to select a business major. The results also reveal that family, high‐school counselors, and professors have a major influence on students' decisions. Furthermore, some unique differences were found related to gender and decided/undecided status of students. The implications of these results for promoting different majors and future research are discussed.

Service and product support are increasingly critical elements in the achievement of customer satisfaction and winning new markets. The success of a product support strategy depends on how effectively these services are delivered. The focus of this paper is on performance enhancement through the use of service delivery strategies; critical factors in the marketing of product support and service‐related contracts that, in turn, foster customer satisfaction, based on industrial systems in a multinational environment. Considered in the framework are product design characteristics such as reliability, maintainability, customer's organizational culture and geographical location, for functional as well as conventional products. The paper advocates an increased focus on support to customers within the framework, introduces a modified service gap model and suggests an approach that reduces any gap between expected and required services. An evaluation of service delivery performance is emphasized.
