Globalisation has caused new conditions for health politics in developing countries and at the international level. The increase in international mobility through migration and tourism has led to a greater and wider spread of infectious diseases while the increase of anti-microbial resistance is causing new problems to treat them effectively. National health politics and the health systems in developing countries are affected by the globalisation process, which causes economic and political pressures to establish and new forms of national health governance. The link between illness and poverty is increasingly seen as a threat to international stability. Actions and regulations of international organisations, multilateral agreements and private actors (TNCs and NGOs) are consolidating into a system of "global health governance". In this context cooperation and conflicts at the interfaces of global and national politics rapidly gain importance. The contributions to this reader look at the relationship between globalisation, health and the delivery of health services in developing countries, the relationship between health and poverty, the development of global health governance, and in a large section analyse various aspects of the interaction between global health governance and national politics in larger developing countries (Brazil, Egypt, India and China) and in Subsaharan Africa. Finally, there is a closer look at the role of the United States in global public health. This reader documents the workshop on "Interfaces of Developing Countries' National Strategies with Global Governance.
