Dieses Lexikon ist ein interdisziplinäres Nachschlagewerk mit fast 2000 Stichworten aus den Bereichen Methodologien, qualitative und quantitative Methoden sowie Statistik. Forschungspraktische Themen werden ebenso behandelt wie Grundlagenbereiche. Die Methoden in den Einzeldisziplinen werden in Langartikeln systematisch präsentiert.

Die in diesem Band versammelten Beiträge verdeutlichen, dass Märkte, Organisationen und andere ökonomische Institutionen diskursiv erzeugt, stabilisiert oder auch verändert werden. Das betrifft Arbeit und Arbeitende, Konsum und Konsumierende, Sachgüter bzw. Dienstleistungen sowie deren Produktion, Bewertung und Vermarktung und schließlich auch ökonomische Entwicklungen wie die aktuelle Finanzkrise oder die zunehmende Ökonomisierung vieler Bereiche, z.B. der Kreativwirtschaft oder der Wissenschaft. Dieses breite Themenspektrum wird mittels theoretisch und methodisch unterschiedlicher Zugänge der Diskursforschung betrachtet. Der Beitrag untersucht einige grundlegende wissenschaftstheoretische sowie methodologische Konsequenzen, die sich aus dem Verhältnis von Sozialforschung und dem Ansatz der so genannten performativen Sozialwissenschaften ergeben. Ausgangspunkt für diese Ausführungen und auch deren Abschluss markiert die historische Epistemologie von Gaston Bachelard. Bachelard hat Gemeinsamkeiten von und Unterschiede zwischen Literatur und Wissenschaft analysiert. Im Zentrum stehen die Fragen nach der spezifischen Kreativität der Wissenschaften, die er mit dem Konzept des epistemologischen Bruchs ermöglicht sieht. Bachelards Epistemologie kann als die wissenschaftstheoretische Position des (Neo)Strukturalismus aufgefasst werden kann. Der Beitrag bezieht sich aber auch auf den (Neo)Pragmatismus, der wiederum eine andere Problematisierung der performativen Sozialwissenschaft zulässt. Die Kombination dieser beiden Megaparadigmen bietet sich an, da beide gerade auch mit ihren Methodologien in der qualitativen Sozialforschung einflussreich sind. Letztendlich geht es so um die Fragen nach einer unabhängigen Erkenntnispraxis der Wissenschaften einerseits und den Konsequenzen aus ihrer gesellschaftlichen Involviertheit andererseits.

The article introduces the approach of economics and sociology of conventions (in short EC) as a neopragmatist institutionalism in the field of economics and sociology of health. For EC, conventions are regarded as institutional logics of valuation, valorization and coordination, and EC emphasizes the empirical plurality of orders of worth and values, actors rely on and institutions are built on. Especially health, health care and its institutions are closely linked to value issues and norms. Because of the pluralism of possible value systems and orders of worth, tensions and critiques are an important empirical phenomenon to be addressed in the health care system. The contribution sketches main positions and perspectives of EC in the analysis of values, medical professions and ethics, of datafication, quantification and classification (related to health and health care institutions), of social inequalities, as well as in the analysis of health policies and health capitalism. Also, the COVID-19 pandemic and its consequences are discussed from the standpoint of EC, finally social trends and perspectives in times of the pandemic are outlined. ; Cet article est l'introduction du numéro spécial de la revue Historical Social Research (46, 2021) consacré aux apports du courant de l'Economie des conventions dans le domaine de la santé. L'article présente l'approche de l'économie et de la sociologie des conventions (en abrégé EC) comme un institutionnalisme néopragmatiste dans le domaine de l'économie et de la sociologie de la santé. Pour l'EC, les conventions sont considérées comme des logiques institutionnelles d'évaluation, de valorisation et de coordination et l'EC met l'accent sur la pluralité empirique des ordres de valeur sur lesquels les acteurs s'appuient et sur lesquels les institutions sont construites. En particulier, les soins de santé et leurs institutions sont étroitement liés aux questions de valeurs et aux normes. En raison du pluralisme des systèmes de valeurs et des ordres de valeur possibles, les tensions et les critiques sont un phénomène empirique important à prendre en compte dans le système de soins de santé. La contribution esquisse les principales positions et perspectives de l'EC dans l'analyse des valeurs, des professions médicales et de l'éthique, de la quantification et de la classification des données, des inégalités sociales, ainsi que dans l'analyse des politiques de santé et du capitalisme sanitaire. De plus, la pandémie COVID-19 et ses conséquences sont discutées du point de vue de l'EC.

»Sozialforschung in den Zeiten von Big Data. Die Herausforderungen der neuen Datenwelten und die Notwendigkeit einer Soziologie der Sozialforschung«. The phenomenon of big data does not only deeply affect current societies but also poses crucial challenges to social research. This article argues for moving towards a sociology of social research in order to characterize the new qualities of big data and its deficiencies. We draw on the neopragmatist approach of economics of convention (EC) as a conceptual basis for such a sociological perspective. This framework suggests investigating processes of quantification in their interplay with orders of justifications and logics of evaluation. Methodological issues such as the question of the "quality of big data" must accordingly be discussed in their deep entanglement with epistemic values, institutional forms, and historical contexts and as necessarily implying political issues such as who controls and has access to data infrastructures. On this conceptual basis, the article uses the example of health to discuss the challenges of big data analysis for social research. Phenomena such as the rise of new and massive privately owned data infrastructures, the economic valuation of huge amounts of connected data, or the movement of "quantified self" are presented as indications of a profound transformation compared to established forms of doing social research. Methodological and epistemological, but also institutional and political, strategies are presented to face the risk of being "outperformed" and "replaced" by big data analysis as they are already done in big US American and Chinese Internet enterprises. Diskussionen um die Normativität von Sozialforschung gehen häufig von der Vorannahme aus, dass Werte und Fakten einander äußerlich sind. Auf Basis (neo-)pragmatischer Überlegungen schlägt dieser Beitrag demgegenüber die Unhintergehbarkeit von Werten in der sozialwissenschaftlichen Wissensproduktion als möglichen Ausgangspunkt einer Soziologie der Sozialforschung vor. Epistemische Werte erlauben Koordination und Bewertung im Forschungsprozess. Diese Werte sind keine Frage subjektiver Vorlieben, sondern "objektiv". Sie müssen sich im sozialen Vollzug der Forschung zur Bewältigung ungewisser Situationen bewähren und sind als historisch geformte Handlungsressourcen intersubjektiv verfügbar und kritisierbar. Die Frage nach den Werten, die Forschungsprozessen ihre Form geben, wäre damit empirisch (nicht "normativ") zu beantworten. Diese wissenschaftsimmanenten Werte sind nicht von umfassenderen oder tiefer liegenden normativen Ordnungen zu trennen, die im Rahmen der Soziologie der Konventionen als Konventionen bezeichnet werden. Im französischen Neopragmatismus sind die sogenannten Konventionen als alltagspraktische Ressource für die Kritik und Legitimierung untersucht worden. Die Diskussion epistemischer Werte führt daher zwangsläufig zur Frage der Kritik, die ihrerseits nicht mit Bezug auf eine transzendente Wahrheit, sondern nur konkret und "realistisch" beantwortet werden kann.

The introductory article to this HSR Special Issue presents the emerging field of sociology of quantification, which can be regarded as a transdisciplinary approach to the analysis of processes of quantification. Processes of categorization and classification are included because they can result in processes of generating figures and numbers also. The contribution sketches the science-historical development of this field. It is argued that processes of quantification are related in many ways with other social and socio-economic processes. Therefore, one can speak of a comprehensive political economy of statistics, quantification and categorization. Especially the works of the French statistician and sociologist Alain Desrosières are an innovative and far-reaching groundwork for the analysis of statistics, quantification and categorization. Also, Desrosières has pointed to the fundamental role of conventions for processes of quantification (as for processes of categorization) and he has published important contributions to the French science movement of economics of convention (économie des conventions). At the end of the article, a set of positions for a sociology of quantification are presented.
