Kunst und insbesondere die Musik Afrikas hatte während der Apartheid eine eminent politische Funktion. Nicht nur, daß die politischen Texte in Südafrika die Regierenden störten, auch im Exil konnten südafrikanische Künstler durch ihre Musik Aufmerksamkeit auch für die politischen Verhältnisse in ihrem Heimatland erregen. Die vorliegenden Beiträge stellen namhafte Künstler wie Jonas Gwangwa, Miriam Makeba, Abdullah Ibrahim und Hugh Masekela aus Südafrika vor, erzählen von ihrem musikalischen Werdegang, ihrem politischen Engagement und ihren Schwierigkeiten bei der Rückkehr aus dem Exil. Aus Sambia wird Charles Muyamwa, bekannter Rundfunkmoderator für Kunst- und Kulturthemen in einem Interview über die Rolle von Kunst und Kultur im sambischen Kontext vorgestellt. Ein weiterer Beitrag beleuchtet die wirtschaftliche Seite des Musikgeschäfts in Simbabwe sowie die Musikszene in Botswana. (DÜI-Spl)
