This paper examines the city of London's immigration policy. The author analyzes the strategies and main documents of London's migration policy and statements of the city authorities, as well as the key problems faced by the city administration. The article analyzes the reasons that encourage regional and local authorities to actively intervene in the process of shaping migration policy and adopt their own strategies of action. The author notes that the views of the London Administration and the British government on immigration policy often diverge; in particular, the London Administration actively defends the economic advantages of a more liberal migration policy. Special attention is paid to the proposition of devolution of migration policy to the regional level, which emphasizes that the city authorities view the national policy as ineffective. The author concludes that there is a gap between the actions of the national and local levels of government. The logic of urban development pushes local authorities to prioritize the economic benefits of immigration, which in the context of restrictive national policies leads to an independent urban immigration policy. The article reflects on the impact of local political processes on migration policy and migration processes.

The relevance of scientific understanding of security in the context of a crisis of generalized trust in Russian society is justified by the search for significant indicators of its interdependence. The scientific discourse of the study of subjective assessments of social well-being allows us to predict the dynamics of these phenomena. The purpose of this article is to identify the optimal socio-economic context, as well as the effectiveness of the regional authorities, which are a necessary condition for optimizing the social well-being of citizens, as one of the basic components of the stability of the region's functioning. The analysis of the basic components of the social well-being of the population of the Altai territory in the context of the analysis of generalized trust in the basic social institutions of the region is presented. On the basis of structural-functional and neo-evolutionist approaches, the role of trust as a basic construct of the social order of functioning of the regional community is revealed.
Conclusions are made that the set of assessments of the cognitive and emotional level of sensations indicates that most of the inhabitants of the region have a low estimate of the potential of social institutions responsible for the safety of life in the region.

UID/CPO/04627/2013 ; This report was commissioned as part of the Accountability After Economic Crisis project – a three- year initiative funded by the Economic & Social Research Council (ESRC-ES/M011321/1). Members of the project are based at City, University of London, Queens University Belfast, and the University of Kent. The project explores the policies of accountability deployed in the aftermath of the global 2008 economic recession (the 'Great Recession'). Using six case studies (Cyprus, Greece, Iceland, Ireland, Portugal, and Spain), we approach political accountability through a comparative and thematic framework that focuses on the use of specific tools of accountability following the financial crisis. The policies of accountability include prosecutions, fact-finding commissions and truth commissions and official apologies. At base, the project hopes to make contributions both to the theory of 'crisis governance' as well as to the practice of how governments react to economic crises. More than 100 elected officials, civil servants, academics, journalists, and activists were interviewed for the project. We also developed a novel database with prosecutions, truth commissions and apologies in the aftermath of the crisis in the six countries. Drawing on a experts' testimonies and the use of a new database, the project provides policy makers with concrete advice for pursuing accountability in future economic crises. The country reports have a wide readership envisioned, including policy makers in all countries and at various levels of government (including international bodies); scholars; activists; and journalists. They have been written without academic jargon, and in both English and relevant local languages, to facilitate their practical utility. ; publishersversion ; published

Recent research indicates that segregation is, in addition to many other undesirable consequences, negatively associated with social capital, in particular, generalized trust within a community. This study investigates whether an individual's residential neighborhood and the stereotypes associated with this neighborhood affect others' trusting behavior as a specific form of social exchange. Using an anonymous trust game experiment in the context of five districts of the German capital, Berlin, we show that trusting is contingent on others' residential neighborhood rather than on deliberate assessments of trustworthiness. Participants show significantly greater trust toward individuals from positively stereotyped neighborhoods with favorable sociodemographic characteristics than to persons from negatively stereotyped neighborhoods with unfavorable sociodemographics. Importantly, when stereotypes and sociodemographic factors point in opposite directions, participants' trust decisions reflect stereotype content.

The instability and uncertainty of international relations accentuate the role of new and inclusive platforms of interaction and cooperation. Eurasian Economic Union (EEU) alongside its regional and transregional partners represent an example of such a platform based on new principles and values, an element of international relation configuration.Aim. Assess the prospects for a zone (cluster) within the planned and potential transregional EEU's expansion beyond the CIS borders.Task. To evaluate the dynamics of the consolidation concerning, first, current free trade EEU agreements (FTAs or the EEU FTAs) with Serbia, Iran, Vietnam and Singapore, second, potential agreements with listed in the EEU official strategy, third, other developing states with relevant economic and/or demographic potential.Methods. The authors use additional consolidation (share of intra-bloc trade) as a metric. It is calculated as the difference between the share of EEU intra-trade and within the existing or potential EEU FTA partnerships.Results. Based on the assessment of additional consolidation, the research revealed that the existing EEU FTAs with Iran and Vietnam are effective, while trade integration with Serbia, Singapore and China are ineffective. The presence of additional consolidation was revealed for Turkey, Egypt, and Bangladesh.Conclusions. The implementation of the transregional integration track is an important development step for the Eurasian Economic Union. However, trade partnerships have different trade efficiency.

This article examines one of the most stressful and difficult periods in Herzen's life associated with the writer's ideological crisis of the late 1840s, which was reflected in his journalistic works of the 1850s. This research is an attempt to carry out a comprehensive analysis of the book From the Other Shore as an autobiographical text in order to trace the formation of a new concept of the author's personality and ways to overcome his ideological crisis. The article examines the nature of autobiographism in Herzen's creative writing of the 1850s, which L. Ya. Ginzburg defined as historical autobiographism. Romantic autobiographism of the 1830s and socio-psychological autobiographism of the 1840s were replaced by historical autobiographism (definition by L. Ginzburg). Issues of historical order become part of the writer's personal life. Moreover, Herzen personifies the principles of historiosophy: he regards the experience of an individual as the experience of humanity at large. However, Herzen's uncertain position in European democratic social circles was responsible for the crisis as well. That is why Herzen formulated and chose for himself the position of an outside observer. The method of historical analogies (definition by R. Нestanov) highlights this new view — Herzen compares the events of Europe with the events of the end of Ancient civilization and juxtaposes himself with Roman philosophers. Furthermore, he uses the technique of dramatising the present, and, consequently, history itself, which leads to the effect of double reflection (reflection of reflection or meta-reflection), and helps him distance from the present and overcome the emotional drama of the late 1840s — early 1850s.
