PurposeThe purpose of this paper is to investigate the relations between the directors' and officers' (D&O) insurance and digital transformation of Chinese-listed companies to provide insights into triggers of digital transformation from the perspective of D&Os' incentive plan.Design/methodology/approachBased on a panel dataset of 2,590 listed manufacturing companies in China from 2017 to 2020, and using a textual analysis of annual reports, this paper empirically examines the impact of D&O insurance on digital transformation. The authors investigate the mechanism through a mediating model and apply a series of robustness tests including firm fixed effect model, propensity score matching and changing key measures.FindingsThe research shows that the digital transformation has been negatively influenced by D&O insurance. The long coverage duration of D&O insurance significantly lowers the level of digital transformation. The moral hazard problem caused by D&O insurance has hampered digital transformation through reducing explorative innovation, while there has been no significant change in innovation quantity. Under the coverage of D&O insurance, firms with worse internal governance and state-owned firms are more reluctant to invest in risky transformation than their counterparts.Originality/valueBased on a textual analysis of annual reports, this paper empirically tests the influential mechanism of D&O insurance coverage on digital transformation. The authors provide insights into non-tech triggers of digital transformation and uncover how incentive plans influences D&Os' behaviors. This paper provides a new angle to the debate on governance-strengthening and governance-weakening role of D&O insurance.

Abstract
In this study we explore the ongoing social changes and internal differences within the Chinese communities in Britain with regard to language practices, ethnic and cultural affiliations, and intra-community communications. Drawing on the notions of "pride" and "profit", we report on how migratory experiences influence the linguistic practices of the Chinese communities. We argue that "pride" and "profit", as manifested in language practices, are rooted in "prejudice", a consequence of linguistic hierarchies related to broader socio-historical and socio-political systems. Data sources include ethnographic interviews with 15 stakeholders from three community pillars. The data analysis shows three major differences and changes within the communities: the multi-layered make-up of the Chinese communities whose members come from different countries and regions; the replacement of Cantonese with Putonghua as the communities' lingua franca; and the increasing visibility of the Chinese communities in mainstream society. The findings suggest that social changes and language practices are associated with the social meanings of belonging, affiliation and reality, involving a form of symbolic struggle filled with "prejudice". The study emphasises that "pride" and "profit" can make visible and explicit the sources of social inequality that tend to be concealed by neoliberal ideologies and discourses.

Purpose
Empirical evidences support the benefits of environmental innovation to improve performance. However, previous research has not considered the role of resource alignment in green supply chain management. To fill the research gap, this paper aims to identify resource alignment as a potential moderating mechanism and to examine the relationships between environmental innovation strategy, resource alignment and green innovation performance.
Design/methodology/approach
The empirical study uses a questionnaire approach designed to collect data. Regression analysis is used for hypotheses testing.
Findings
The findings indicate that environmental innovation strategy and resource alignment between partners are positively related to green innovation performance. This study also provides considerable support to the key contingent moderator of resource alignment. The positive effect of environmental innovation strategy on green innovation performance is stronger under the conditions of a higher level of resource alignment between partners.
Research limitations/implications
This study provides empirical support of the ecological modernization theory and integrates partner analysis literature and green management literature. Higher resource alignment may facilitate firms to develop environmental innovation strategy to attain green innovation performance.
Practical implications
Environmental innovation strategy enables firms to integrate ecological issues into their business operation. Managers could learn how to execute environmental incentive programs to promote sustainable development of green new product and green process. Managers need to pay attention to resource alignment that may have moderating influence on the performance outcomes of environmental innovation strategy.
Originality/value
This study highlights the importance of environmental innovation strategy and resource alignment in the process of green management and helps scholars and managers to better understand the moderator of resource alignment in quest of environmental innovation and green management.

Purpose
Learning orientation is critical in new product development. However, research has disregarded how learning orientation operates via the potential mediator to influence new product performance. The purpose of this study is to examine the mediating role of ambidextrous capability in the relationship between learning orientation and new product performance.
Design/methodology/approach
The empirical study uses a questionnaire approach designed to collect data for testing research hypotheses. This study tests the hypotheses using structural equation model in a sample of 336 firms in Taiwan.
Findings
The findings indicate that learning orientation relates positively to ambidextrous capability and new product performance. Ambidextrous capability, in turn, relates positively to new product performance. The results also support the argument that ambidextrous capability plays a mediating role in learning orientation and new product performance.
Originality/value
The value of this study is to identify ambidextrous capability as the potential mediator in the relationship between learning orientation and new product performance. The results enrich the understanding of learning orientation in new product project teams and suggest important implications for new product development and future research.
