A response to Tony Smith's (2003) critique of the author's (2003) identification of three distinct connections between Karl Marx's logic of capital & G. W. F. Hegel's logic of the Idea. Smith's contention that Hegel's philosophical project entailed the development of thought that scrutinized thinking is questioned; in addition, it is stated that Marx acknowledged systemic deficiencies in Hegel's thought. Smith's challenge to the author's detection of a connection between the logic of capital & the class struggle that contributes to capital's formation is then addressed. In addition, Smith's recognition of different "negations" within Hegel's thought is contemplated to better understand how capital achieves freedom while human labor is subsumed under capital's hegemony; the methodological implications of this realization are subsequently pondered. 6 References.
