Goa : the transformation of an Indian region
In: Pacific affairs, Band 57, Heft 3, S. 429-449
ISSN: 0030-851X
After a brief overview over Goan society before its takeover by India in 1961, the author looks at recent developments, focussing his attention on five interrelated areas of concern - the "big families" (large business-houses with political influence), fishing, the "gaun-kari" (villages dominated by dominant castes), cultural expression and tourism. Goa firmly caught in bourgeois-capitalist society. Decline of peace, order and cleanliness. (DÜI-Sen)
