`The field of "transgender" and "transpositionality" has been carved out as a new field of inquiry in the past decade, showing the fragmentation and diversification of masculinities and feminities - along with the error of any sharp polarisation. Dave King and Richard Ekins are the leading world sociologists in this field and have mined it richly since the 1970's. The book brings together a brilliant synthesis of history, case studies, ideas and positions as they have emerged over the past thirty years, and brings together a rich but always grounded account of this field, p
Communication scholars have played an instrumental role in this field theorizing about the nature of identities in relation to media, interpersonal, organizational, intercultural and rhetorical practices and exploring the political conditions these practices create for persons across the spectrum of gender identities and sexual orientations. Each chapter of Transgender Communication Studies: Histories, Trends, and Trajectories addresses previous communication scholarship on transgender lives, makes an original argument or contribution to the field, and concludes with directions for future rese
This essay analyzes the representation of transgenderism in Ricky Lee's Tagalog-language novel Si Amapola sa 65 na Kabanata (Amapola in 65 Chapters). By situating the novel against the heteronormative operations of the nation-state, the analysis investigates how Amapola's transformation from a politically apathetic comedy bar performer to an aswang (viscera-stucker) who is desrined to save the nation semantically radicalizes the image of transgenderism through the dynamics of revolutionary subjectification. This investigation then inserts Amapola's transgenderism into the Filipiino history - from the babaylan-led anti-colonial peasant movements during the Spanish and American colonial periods to the contemporary national democratic movement led by the Communist Party of the Philippines.

Trans People in Love provides insight into the beauty and complexity that trans identity brings to relationships, the skills needed to forge positive relationships, and demonstrates the reality that trans people in all stages of transition can create loving relationships that are both physically and emotionally fulfilling
In the recent development of a new field of scholarly inquiry in queer Asian studies, relatively little attention has been paid to transgender issues. This volume brings together experts with backgrounds ranging from cultural studies to history to musicology, allowing emergent Sinologists working on trans issues to engage with the work of Western gender and queer theorists.
This edited collection synthesizes existing transgender communication scholarship, contributes original research, and sets an agenda for future work in human communication, media studies, and rhetorical studies. It is unique in its expansive coverage of the field of communication and the specific focus on transgender lives.

There is no one way to be transgender. Transgender and gender non-conforming people have many different ways of understanding their gender identities. Only recently have sex and gender been thought of as separate concepts, and we have learned that sex (traditionally thought of as physical or biological) is as variable as gender (traditionally thought of as social). While trans people share many common experiences, there is immense diversity within trans communities. There are an estimated 700,000 transgendered individuals in the US and 15 million worldwide. Even still, there's been a notable l
