Reckoning with Law—and with Legal Anthropology
In: Journal of legal anthropology: JLA, Band 7, Heft 1, S. v-ix
ISSN: 1758-9584
I recently experienced one of those unsettling, context-imposing moments that cause the ground underfoot to feel suddenly loose, threatening to dissolve into quicksand – until, that is, the moment passes, as it inevitably seems to do. It happened during a university-wide lecture by Mark Williams, a professor of palaeontology at the University of Leicester and the Palaeontological Association's 'exceptional lecturer' for the academic year 2022–2023. This means he was chosen to go on a global tour of universities to give a talk for wider audiences that was intended to show the relevance and importance of palaeontology for questions of global significance. The title of Williams's lecture was 'The Anthropocene: Planetary Scale Change to the Biosphere and the Future Well-Being of Planet Earth'.

Michael Hardt is Professor in the Program for Literature at Duke University. He is perhaps best known for his collaboration with Antonio Negri on Labor of Dionysus: A Critique of the State-Form (Minneapolis: University of Minnesota Press, 1994); Empire (Cambridge: Harvard University Press, 2000); & Multitude: War & Democracy in the Age of Empire (New York: Penguin Press, 2004). In an interview conducted by Bradley J. Macdonald, an Associate Editor of New Political Science, Hardt elaborates on themes in his recent work. Adapted from the source document.
Father Involvement with Children with Developmental Delays
Children with developmental delays (DD) pose unique caregiving challenges, given their developmental problems and risks for behavior problems (Baker, McIntyre, Blacher, Crnic, Edelbrock, & Low, 2003). Most of the studies involving caregivers of children with DD have highlighted the role of mothers, with very few studies focusing specifically on fathers. Studies on father involvement in home and school settings provide a theoretical rationale for increasing father involvement to support positive outcomes in children with DD. Synthesizing research on father involvement can further contribute to and shape legislation that ensures equitable access to education for young children with disabilities (i.e., the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act). This paper summarizes findings from a systematic literature review of father involvement across home and school settings in families of preschool-aged children with or at risk for DD.
