Le 22 aoút 1964, dans le cadre de l'Exposition nationale suisse, à Lausanne, une cérémonie imposante a marqué le centième anniversaire de la signature de la Convention de Genéve du 22 août 1864 pour l'amélioration du sort des militaires blessés dans les armées en campagne. La manifestation eut lieu devant le pavilion qui abrite les stands consacrés à l'œuvre du CICR et à celle de la Croix-Rouge suisse.

Matthäus Merian the Elder (September 22, 1593 in Basel, † June 19, 1650 in Langenschwalbach) was a Swiss-German engraver and publisher. He published numerous maps, views and chronicles. This work deals with the Venetian-Turkish war for the Kingdom of Candia ; Matthäus Merian der Ältere (* 22. September 1593 in Basel; † 19. Juni 1650 in Langenschwalbach) war ein schweizerisch-deutscher Kupferstecher und Verleger. Er gab zahlreiche Landkarten, Städteansichten und Chroniken heraus. Dieses Werk behandelt den venezianisch türkischen Krieg um das Königreich Candia.

"The volume examines the discourse-based critique of coloniality. Die westliche Moderne kennzeichnet bis heute ein langer, widersprüchlicher Prozess um die Statuierung der Menschenrechte. Es waren die schrecklichen Erfahrungen mit den Totalitarismen des letzten Jahrhunderts, die schließlich den Diskurs darüber in eine weitest gefasste, abstrakte »Erklärung« goss. Abgeleitet allein aus seinem elementaren, nackten Menschsein sollte die Würde des Einzelnen durch Rechte mit unbedingtem, universellem Geltungsanspruch garantiert werden. Diese verabsolutierende Sakralisierung der Menschenrechte forcierte zum einen die zunehmende Verdrängung des Politischen durch eine sich universell verstehende Moral in den westlichen Gesellschaften, was – wie sich heute gut sehen lässt – zu einem im tiefer gehenden Konflikt zwischen dem Einzelnen und dem Staat, der Gemeinschaft als ethischem, kulturellem Gebilde, führte. Zum anderen verschärfte sie, nach außen getragen, als eine neue Form imperialistischen Anspruchs den ideologischen Konflikt zwischen den Kulturen. Wobei der Westen, der auf der gleichzeitigen Entwicklung von Wissenschaft und Kapitalismus gründet, sich stets auf sein ausgeprägtes liberales Demokratieverständnis beruft und vor allem globale Ökonomisierung meint. Letztlich zielen beide Ausrichtungen mit der Ideologisierung der Menschenrechte auf ein supranationales Konstrukt als eine Art »Welteinheitsstaat« ab.

"This volume studies the ways in which Hindu nationalism is gendered today and juxtaposes the Sangh Parivar's shifting gender notions to the ways in which women's organisations construct their own modes of public and domestic politics. It addresses questions of the present state of organizational and ideological activities of women who belong to the many affiliates of the Sangh, and the extent to which rightwing women's organizations are autonomous and the nature of the influence that they bear upon Sangh policies.
