Nonprofit organizations that engage in rebranding strategies face challenges reconciling normative (social or mission driven) and utilitarian (business driven) identities of their organizations. This research examines the interplay between rebranding processes and dual identities of 10 rebranded charitable organizations, in particular how these identities are reflected in managers' narratives and subsequently shape rebranding strategies. The study reveals four types of rebranding strategies and the potential drivers for their adoption. Pressure to secure resources can lead nonprofit organizations to emphasize utilitarian identities in rebranding, and so surface hidden tensions among stakeholders reluctant to relinquish established normative identities. In managing the process of rebranding, senior managers engage in practices of justifying, re-visioning, and influencing to reduce emerging tensions. The research suggests that both utilitarian and normative identity concerns need to be addressed during the process.
; This paper offers an analysis of the position of women in penitentiary institutions. The authors firstly explicate data on the increase in number of incarcerated women in Serbia in the last decades, and clarify the results of the research related to the effects of such penal policy. The second part of the paper contains information obtained on the account of the opportunity to communicate with a female ex-inmate of the Penal Correctional Institution in Požarevac, Serbia. After a thorough documentary analysis of her case records, a series of semi-structured interviews with the former inmate were performed 'face to face', allowing her to put across a traumatic experience of her stay in the penal facility. This account was carefully and accurately noted down and later subjected to content analysis, in order to determine both cognizant and subliminal messages of the interviewee. The authors made an effort to avoid the mistake of generalization, and tried not to make wide-ranging conclusions regarding the existing penal system based on the experiences of one (though atypical) incarcerated person. However, and taking into account the conclusions of other researchers arrived at in other parts of the world, it may be inferred that a penal system which easily resorts to imprisonment as a form of punishment, hardly can achieve the goals put before it by the society. It is obvious that, instead of their re-socialization, a tough penal system imposes passive submission on the convicted individuals, and pushes them toward hypocrisy, paranoid attitudes and mortification of identity. For this reason, one should not be puzzled by the high rates of penitentiary recidivism in contemporary societies.

Interventions addressing the multiple needs of incarcerated women are rare. In this study, several measures were used to assess functional changes among pregnant, substance-dependent, incarcerated women transferred to a community-based residential treatment program that allowed their infants to reside with them. Women engaged in comprehensive therapeutic and skill-building activities for 6 to 9 months. The program's goal was to assist women in childbirth and in the continuing relationship with their child while improving psychological and social functioning. Examination of changes were limited to those who completed treatment and all measures (n = 27). Although significant improvements were noted, nearly half were discharged with symptoms indicative of a depressive disorder. Assessment of long-term outcomes comparing this group with pregnant women who remained in prison is under way.

International audience ; Objective: To analyse the physical fitness of a large sample of the French population across different ages. Design: Observational cross-sectional study. Setting: Data were collected from the Athletic Track and Field Federation, which organised events dedicated to measuring physical fitness. The events took place in 22 regions between 2006 and 2010. Participants: French volunteer citizens (N=31 349) aged between 4 and 80 years old who participated in events dedicated to measuring physical fitness. Primary and secondary outcome measures: We assessed the results of the following fitness tests: 20 m shuttle run, standing broad jump, repeated squat jump, 4×10 m shuttle run, speed, flexibility and push-ups in relation to age and body mass index (BMI) using Spearman's rho, a one-way analysis of variance. A bi-exponential model was used to represent the performance with age. Results: Our major results showed higher performances for men and for subjects with normal BMI at all age groups except for the flexibility test. BMI was strongly correlated across all ages with physical fitness p<0.0001. Furthermore, through bi-exponential model, a mean peak performance was identified at 26.32 years of age for men and 22.18 years of age for women. Conclusions: Physical fitness assessment using asimple series of tests on the general population offersan important indicator of health status. The possibilityof observing the evolution of fitness levels with timeprovides an important monitoring method from apublic health perspective. Further research is needed toreinforce and evaluate the approach.
