The plethora of M. N. Srinivas's articles and books covering a wide range of subjects from village studies to nation building, from dominant caste in Rampura village to nature and character of caste in independent India, and from prospects of sociological research in Gujarat to practicing social anthropology in India have largely influenced the understanding of society and culture for well over five decades. Additionally, he meticulously wrote itineraries, memoirs and personal notes that provide a glimpse of his inner being, influences, ideologies, thought all of which have inspired a large number of and social anthropologists and sociologists across the world. It is then only befitting to explore the major concerns in the life and intellectual thought of one whose pioneering contributions have been the milestones in the fields of social anthropology and sociology in a specific sense and of social sciences in India in a general sense. This article centres around/brings to light the academic concerns that Srinivas grappled with the new avenues of thought and insights that developed consequently, and the extent of his rendition their relevance in framing/understanding contemporary society and culture in India.

Theoretical approaches and applied research on the relationship between technological changes and innovations and public administration are usually characterized by a type of work program that explains the changes in public administration based on the technological transformations and innovations taking place in "society". However, comparative experience, and also that of Latin America, shows how in multiple occasions the technological changes and innovations produced within public administration systems have impacted on social processes, re-enrolling economic and social actors, including large business actors, in these innovations and producing changes with intensive use of ICT which transformed social associations at the national, continental and global levels. The article explores the cases of changes in financial administration, procurement and contracting and public revenue systems produced in Latin America, using the science and technology studies of the Network Actor Theory. It addresses its implications in relation to the transformations known as the fourth industrial revolution, the different ways of dealing with the processes of change, innovation, adaptation or modernization of public administrations, and the way in which innovation in State administrations, especially in the fourth technological revolution, can lead to broader social transformations.

Abstract Ming Dynasty is a key transitional period in China's maritime history. It marks the shift from outward expansion to passive defense, whereas underground marine trades were rampant and China had to face the rising Western powers. It deserves to examine Ming's maritime management by different perspectives including the coastal islands. This research focuses on Veritable Records of the Ming (明實錄) and explores key terms such as 'island'(島) and 'isle'(嶼) via the approach of 'Digital Humanities' to sum up the main issues of islands governing in early Ming Dynasty: 1. To subjugate political rivals on the sea and to defeat remnant Mongolian militaries. 2. To surrender rebels and appease refugees on the coastal islands. 3. To suppress and defend against Japanese pirates. 4. Diplomatic relations with neighboring countries. These issues reflected that Chinese dynastic regime transition from Yuan to Ming not only drastically altered the order of the East Asia seas after 14th c., but was also the key factor for the island governing policies in the early Ming period. This article investigates the issues of islands governing to discuss how the internal and external situation and the characteristic oceanic consciousness influenced the marine affair policy decision in early Ming Dynasty.

The economic and political crises of the last two decades have been greatly influenced by the factthat, impacted by manipulative effects, instead to follow their rational judgements people havemade their decisions under the influence of emotional and instinctive temtation, deception andmanipulation. So far, these manipulative influences dominate contemporary commercial or populist political communication. The paper below shares the author's hesitation that, whilenon-rational factors bias from rational arguing and reasoning, both in decision-making and incommunicative impacts on the other person inevitably present, is it acceptable to manipulatethe users/clients by assisting professionals/social workers while exercising influence on decision-making of their clients? And if so, under what conditions, what specific constraints could beexercised such impacts and "professional power"? Likewise, when and what can and should bedone to immunize clients against manipulation, to mitigate manipulative effects, to "gain back"rational mind and "empower" clients to follow rational consideration and make wiser decisions?The article does not undertake to provide "only" true and correct answers, rather gives insightsand tries to provoke its reader to contribute to clarifying this important issue.

The study presents through international examples of how the security and quality of life of elderly and disabled people can be enhanced. 12 partners in eight Central European countries carried out pilot activities within the framework of the HELPS project. The aim of this international project is to contribute to the decrease of the social exclusion of elderly, and to elaborate practises through which seniors would not be constraint to institutional care, and can live in their homes on a longer term. The study presents the outcomes of these pilots and the ensuing primary experiences. The presented innovative solutions offer possibilities in various fields (housing, services, career, practises, information of relatives) for the home care of elderly and people living with disabilities. Prior to the elaboration and put into practice of the development ideas and plans, the partners evaluated the health care system and related services offered to elderly and disabled people in their homeland. The analyses revealed those shortage areas, where further developments would increase the possibility to keep and care for the target group in their homes.

In my paper I will focus on the relational art projects of René Francisco Rodriguez, a Cuban artist and professor at the Instituto Superior de Arte, living and working in Havana. Cuba, its special political and economic situation and the social process it produces, are the point of departure for the artist, while at the same time his oeuvre is widely perceived outside the island. In his art projects René Francisco Rodriguez leaves the studio with the intention to participate in the life of Havana's people, engage in a kind of anthropological fieldwork and make art inspired by contact and collaboration. In this article I will give an account of his project "Agua Benita" (2008), realized in one of the urban districts of Havana, in direct contact with its inhabitants. The paper will contribute to the question about entanglement and borders between relational art and other social approaches and relations to people, like anthropological research as well as social and political engagement.

Ongoing efforts of legislatures and school boards across the country to mix religion and science forms focus of this essay. The current ascendance of religious conservatives insisting on an alternative to evolution being taught in schools in the form of intelligent design has resulted in draft legislation being introduced in ten US states. Author contends that there are First Amendment interests on both sides of the evolution-creationism debate and that a classroom, although essentially a place of learning, cannot be a venue for religious proselytizing. Essay concludes that even though evolution is on the school curriculum, it is often discouraged in the classroom out of fear of controversy, particularly in communities where fundamentalist religion predominates.

Malgré les dommages qu'elle occasionne pour les populations humaines et la biodiversité littorales depuis parfois plusieurs dizaines d'années, l'eutrophisation des milieux marins n'a que très progressivement accédé à une visibilité dans l'espace politique et auprès d'un large public. Due à la production industrielle d'azote réactif et de l'extraction massive de minerai de phosphate, en particulier pour la fertilisation des cultures, cette pollution terrigène majeure est aujourd'hui considérée comme le symptôme le plus manifeste de la perturbation anthropique à grande échelle des cycles biogéochimiques des nutriments. Dans ce contexte, l'ambition de cet article est de rendre compte de l'émergence contrariée de l'eutrophisation côtière comme problème public. Fondé sur une revue systématique de la littérature internationale en sciences sociales et en sciences de la soutenabilité, littérature jusqu'à présent très dispersée, il propose une lecture critique des dynamiques multi-échelles de la surfertilisation des océans. Cette analyse met en évidence trois périodes majeures qui caractérisent l'histoire sociale de l'eutrophisation des milieux marins et examine la façon dont elle a été prise en charge, ou pas, par les autorités publiques. Dans la plupart des cas documentés, l'expérience vécue des populations a rarement suffi à déclencher des politiques publiques régulatrices, le manque d'efficacité de l'action publique étant souvent présenté comme résultant d'antagonismes locaux et d'incertitudes scientifiques persistantes. Si les mobilisations sociales contre l'eutrophisation côtière tendent à se cantonner à des sites emblématiques, les conflits socio-environnementaux directement reliés à des symptômes d'eutrophisation se déploient, en revanche, au sein d'une grande diversité de configurations hydro-sociales, dont nous proposons une typologie.

This article presents an experience of university teaching based on the proposal of the Seminar of Educational Reality, belonging to the Education Sciences course of studies at the National University of the Northeast, Argentina. This course of studies is for teacher training for secondary and higher education, as well as for professional performance in public and private educational organizations. The fundamental pedagogical sense that guides the Seminar is to "look" at education beyond the school as a formal institutional organization, that is, the educational issue is not resolved exclusively in the field of the school. On the contrary, the school is the place of resonance of what happens in other external spaces and, as a social institution, it is crossed by social, cultural, historical, political, and economic problems, thus becoming a space for the projection of social, cultural and life possibilities. The essay analyzes the current reform of teacher training implemented in the Dominican Republic. It dispenses with content related to society's legislation. This amendment promoted by the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology, which eliminates the subject on educational legislation, departs from the mandate of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the Constitution of the Republic, the Law of Higher Education, Science and Technology, the General Law of Education, and the same spirit of the regulations that legalize said reform. A change of this nature leads to the generation of a deficit in citizen training, social coexistence, and democracy. Consequently, the Dominican society could be entering a probable distance from the construction of a social state of rights, where citizens know, defend, and practice their privileges and fulfill their duties. ; En el ensayo, se analiza la actual reforma de la formación docente implementada en la República Dominicana. Se observa que esta prescinde de contenidos relacionados con la legislación y las normas de convivencia de la sociedad. Esta enmienda, impulsada por el Ministerio de Educación Superior, Ciencia y Tecnología, elimina la asignatura sobre legislación educativa, por lo que se aleja del mandato de la Declaración Universal de los Derechos Humanos, de la Constitución de la República, de la Ley de Educación Superior, Ciencia y Tecnología, de la Ley General de Educación y del mismo espíritu de la normativa que legaliza dicha reforma. Un cambio de esta naturaleza conlleva la generación de un déficit en la formación ciudadana, convivencia social y democracia. Religiousness – isn't a one-dimensional social phenomenon, which has been repeatedly considered by representatives of social and political sciences. Nowadays this phenomenon is getting the newest modern sense. The main contradiction is the opposition of the personal and the institutional notions in the religious world. In the article examples of risks unsocial religiousness displays in the modern world are considered, examples of political oppositions and oppositions which create modern problems, calls which are consequences of deviations from traditional religious sights, requirements are resulted. Here, Karen Barad's agential realism offers a different notion of materiality emphasizing the open, eventful, and potentially destabilizing effects of matter. With regard to this theoretical tension the present article argues that especially the case of social robotics in elderly care renders visible the fragility of technological interconnecting, thus requiring a new conceptualization of materiality within thoroughly technologized society. In order to achieve this, the article proposes an 'analytics of interfacing' accounting for the eventful material conditions of technological interconnecting. By synthesizing Barad's account of 'intraaction' and Gilbert Simondon's notion of 'disposability' such an analytics focuses on the procedural modalities by which techno-scientific regimes render hetergeneous entities disposable for one another, thus interfacing them.
