The evidence that Joseph Bendersky marshals in "The Disappearance of Blonds: Immigration, Race and the Reemergence of 'Thinking White"' (1995 [see abstract 9612923]) for pervasive bigotry in the US is found to be either inaccurate or exaggerated. The administrative use of IQ tests by government agencies is not necessarily racist, & is usually aimed at improving organizational performance through performance judgment of testees. It is argued that the passage of the Naturalization Act of 1924 was due more to economic interests than racism. Bendersky fails to adequately distinguish real anti-Semitism, which has been relatively rare in the US, from deviations from absolute equality among groups, which have been numerous.
