Eastern European Emerging Markets (EEEM's) have been superficially analysed in the literature. In this paper, the authors use a T-GARCH and E-GARCH approach to model volatility in eleven EEEM's, being one of the most comprehensive analysis in terms of number of markets. Data includes daily returns from 2004 to 2011. Main findings show higher unconditional volatility in EEEM's than in developed markets, but risk premium is statistically negative or non significant in this markets. Almost all markets show an important and significant leverage effect, contrary to previous results in the literature. According to the news impact and decay parameters, volatility is more difficult to predict in EEEM's than in developed markets. Greece, Hungary, Poland and Turkey seem to be the maturest EEEM's markets. Finally, no significant differences are found among countries inside and outside European Union.

Louis de Jong, who died on 15 March 2005, held a unique position as the official historian for the Netherlands during the Second World War. This innovative "Research Handbook" explores the judicial and scholarly approaches to, and theories surrounding, general principles in the EU legal order against the backdrop of considerable uncertainty about the concept. It does so by analysing a diverse range of general principles in discrete areas of EU law ("zooming in") and external, wider perspectives on the notion of a general principle of law from international law, comparative law, and legal theory ("zooming out"). Rather than arguing for a single closed definition of what a general principle of law in the EU legal order must look like, this Research Handbook identifies conceptual, theoretical, and legal parameters within which the doctrine of general principles can be meaningfully discussed and contested in EU law. "This book investigates how ideas of and discourses about Europe have been affected by images of the Mediterranean Sea and its many worlds from the nineteenth century onwards. Surprisingly, modern scholars have often neglected such an influence and, in fact, in most histories of the idea of Europe the Mediterranean is conspicuously absent. This might partly be explained by the fact that historians have often identified Europe with modernity (and the Atlantic world) and, therefore, in opposition to the classical world (centred around the Mediterranean). This book will challenge such views, showing that a plethora of thinkers, from the early nineteenth century to the present, have refused to relegate the Mediterranean to the past. Importance is given to the idea of a distinct 'meridian thought', a notion first set forth by Albert Camus and now reworked by French and Italian thinkers. As most chapters argue, this might represent an important tool for rethinking the Mediterranean and, in turn, it might help us challenge received notions about European identity and rethink Europe as the locus of 'modernity'.
