With which political and economic variables is change in international financial regulation robustly associated? I undertook multivariate regression analysis of this question using a quantitative measure of the regulation of international financial transactions. The measure was created by coding the laws of 64 nations. The associations between change in international financial regulation and measures of long-run economic growth, corporate taxation, government expenditures, and income inequality are estimated, using the models, methods, and data of Batro (1991), Deininger and Squire (1996a), Leamer (1983, 1985), and Levine and Renelt (1992). The findings point to a new agenda for research on international financial regulation.

Traditionally, the only recognized subjects of public international law have been states and intergovernmental organizations. Neben der dogmatischen Herleitung seiner Gerichtsbarkeit wird geprüft, ob die dem IStGH verliehene Strafgerichtsbarkeit über Staatsangehörige aus Nichtvertragsstaaten diese Staaten in ihren Rechten verletzt. Die Autorin thematisiert insoweit das Spannungsverhältnis zwischen internationaler Strafgerichtsbarkeit und staatlicher Souveränität unter Berücksichtigung der bisherigen Entwicklungen im Bereich des Völkerstrafrechts und der internationalen Strafgerichtsbarkeit.

In my latest article (open access) for Review of International Studies I examine Indigenous resistance to neo-extractive development in Latin America and ask what this means for International Relations (IR). I contend that Indigenous resistance can disrupt traditional thinking in IR via an 'insurrection of subjugated knowledge'.

Nine predictions are advanced on the impact on the international system of a successful effort to contain nuclear proliferation.The world will see a modest dilution of the prerogatives of sovereignty, very much tailored to the halting of nuclear weapons spread. Some breakthroughs will be achieved in the multinational management of nuclear industry. Current "pariah states" may escape such status, simply through the latent possibility of nuclear proliferation. Nuclear weapons will continue to go unused in combat, just as they have since 1945. Soviet-American cooperation on the nuclear proliferation front will continue. The traffic in conventional arms may by contrast go relatively unchecked, as most countries conclude that this kind of weapons spread is less bad than nuclear proliferation. All of this will be carried through by statements distorted by the normal deceptions of diplomacy. The world will nonetheless generally become more sophisticated in discounting any glamor or political clout in nuclear weapons programs. Most of the barrier to proliferation will come through normal political and economic exchange, rather than through any violent or military interventions.
