The body and experiences of embodiment have generated a rich and diverse sociological literature. This volume articulates and illustrates one major approach to the sociology of the body: symbolic interactionism, an increasingly prevalent theoretical base of contemporary sociology derived from the pragmatism of writers such as John Dewey, William James, Charles Peirce, Charles Cooley and George Herbert Mead. The authors argue that, from an interactionist perspective, the body is much more than a tangible, corporeal object - it is a vessel of great significance to the individual and society. From this perspective, body, self and social interaction are intimately interrelated and constantly reconfigured. The collection constitutes a unique anthology of empirical research on the body, from health and illness to sexuality, from beauty and imagery to bodily performance in sport and art, and from mediated communication to plastic surgery. Dissemination of social media platforms has brought a fundamental change in traditional public communication, which previously was a managing process managed exclusively by actors such as journalists, politicians and various interest groups. Politicians or individuals engaged in the press offices of different institutions are now increasingly choosing direct communication with the public through social media platforms. This has resulted in de-intermediation of public relations, mainly political actors, and beyond. Some of the pioneers of social media advocate that these changes are leading to a de-mediatized communication, have influenced positively on the quality of democracy by promoting citizen participation in public debate. This study is focused on the role that social media has in the transformation of political actors communication with the public, and the impact that this model can have of communication in shaping the public sphere. During the study there are analysed various authors approaches and real cases from the Albanian context of political communication. To conduct the study there will be used mainly qualitative research methods.

The glory of all ancient civilization is unearthed in their ruins as a proof of artistic excellence when Architecture, Sculpture, Drawing and painting etc. were very intelligently planned in terms of aesthetics, magnificence and utility. Later, Indian art was influenced by Greek art and techniques but the mixing up of two forms did not compromise on the artistic excellence rather this combination further enhanced the richness of artistic creativity. There was a time when art adorned the wall of palaces, temples, or public places where the patrons would be the kings, religious bodies or the great and rich men in the society. At its most basic sense. Social media represent a shift in how people discover, read and share news, information and countent. Social media have become extremely popular because they allow people to connect in the online world to form relationships for personal, political and business use. Art, whether traditional or contemporary has been combined with the media forms to each the people. Here media, informs the people about the various art forms and the way it can be utilized for beautification or for any psychological influence, thus leading to its commercialization. Art of one country has reached to each and every part of the world through the help of media.

Despite a recent increase in attention within the social sciences, suffering remains for the most part outside of the purview of sociologists. In this essay, I explore the possibilities for a sociology of suffering by briefly interrogating suffering in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina in the Lower Ninth Ward, the epicenter of the hurricane and the federal levee failures.

Claims regarding the power of the mass media in contemporary politics are much more frequent than research actually analysing the influence of mass media on politics. Building upon the notion of issue ownership, this article argues that the capacity of the mass media to influence the respective agendas of political parties is conditioned upon the interests of the political parties. Media attention to an issue generates attention from political parties when the issue is one that political parties have an interest in politicizing in the first place. The argument of the article is supported in a time-series study of mass media influence on the opposition parties' agenda in Denmark over a twenty-year period.

On the 50th anniversary of the ISSA and IRSS, a key scholar in the development of the sociology of sport in continental Europe, Fabien Ohl, reflects on Francophone traditions in the development of the field. Considered first is the emergence and recognition of the sociology of sport within Francophone traditions in sociology on one hand and the need to 'lean' on the sport sciences on the other. The challenges for the sociology of sport are considered in light of the central tendencies in the life and sport sciences and on the optimization of sporting performance; here it is noted that the sociology of sport must, by necessity, work to keep a place within the sport sciences. The close of the essay considers strategies for advancing external legitimacy for the sociology of sport by gaining recognition of its value within the sport sciences and in sport management; here gaining access to sport organizations and showing the value of a 'sociological lens' are deemed essential.

This article explores testing as research site in the sociology of technology. A fully generalizable analysis is offered of testing in terms of a notion of projection. Prospective, current, and retrospective testing are identified The article is illustrated with examples of testing a clinical budgeting system in the United Kingdom National Health Service and the testing of the O-rings on the space shuttle Challenger. Lastly, the theme of "testing the user" is developed Some comments are offered on the pervasiveness of testing in society at large.
