Part of the Conference on the State of the Social Sciences held at Boston U, 6-7 Dec 2002. The session on the Nature of Science focuses on integral aspects of the scientific worldview & method. The discussion takes up three important questions. First, if science is characterized by the objective of the social institution, might a necessary methodology exist that would operate in the natural sciences, &, if it were to be authentically scientific, the social sciences as well? Second, is science differentiated from other practices by the formulation of theories or solely by evidence-testing, & does imagination play any part in scientific formulations? Third, how impenetrable is scientific practice to the social, the ideological, etc; how impenetrable have the natural sciences been? K. Coddon
AbstractMacroeconomic imbalances are a substantial characteristic of the recent economic crisis inEurope. As several authors emphasise the impact of the state, public institutions and territorial structures on the world city, the impact of the crisis on the economic performance of global cities becomes a crucial question. After discussing the theoretical aspects of the state – global city linkages and discussing two fields of influence on the global city formation, the empirical section analyses the deviation of national and regional growth performance to estimate the decoupling ofEuropean global cities from the national economies. The results show that the correlation betweenEuropean global cities and the national scale also depends on the form of capitalism and the territorial organisation of statehood.

This research aims to identify the dimensions and characteristics of sustainable and intelligent supply chains based on artificial intelligence are investigated. Methodology: This article uses systemic review to deeply examine the literature review and summarize the findings in the field. Findings: Using AI in supply chain will lead to improved response to changes in demand, reduced delivery times, and lower costs, and will lead to sustainable development. The integration of environmental, social, and economic aspects is continuously influencing general management decisions and especially supply chain management and operations management. Therefore, organizations are rethinking and redefining the concept of operations management using the supply chain approach based on smart technologies. Also, the issue of artificial intelligence in the supply chain and the need to use it by businesses is also discussed. In addition, the potential applications of artificial intelligence in the sustainable supply chain are also investigated and a conceptual framework is also presented for it.
This book deals in different ways with the politics of death, with art and politics and with the politics of refuge and asylum. Cutting across these fields brings to the fore the fluid quality of social life under late capitalism. The elements of time, space and emotion are part of the overall approach adopted. The individual chapters illustrate themes of despair, striving and the politics of hope, and bring out the fluid and unpredictable qualities of social life. The guiding metaphor is fluidity, or what Urry refers to as "waves; continuous flow; pulsing; fluidity and viscosity" characteristic of life, death, refuge and art under the contemporary global system. Between the worlds of culture, political violence and art, the interconnected themes in this study illuminate conditions of 'liminality', or in-betweenness. The study presents a politics of hope under late capitalism, and cuts through more usual boundaries between art and science, harm and help, death and the politics of bare life. Each chapter grapples with issues that help illustrate wider trends in Global Development and International Relations scholarship and teaching. Amidst growing cynicism about human or even humanitarian values, the volume appeals for a politics of hope and social justice, based on the fluid contours of borderless and amorphous processes of self-organising and radical anarchy. Helen Hintjens is Assistant Professor in Development and Social Justice at the International Institute of Social Studies in The Hague, The Netherlands. For more than 30 years she has studied the comparative asylum policies of EU member states in the context of broader post-colonial relationships and ideas. Her particular interests are in pro-asylum advocacy networks and activists, the politics of selective urban surveillance of undocumented rejected asylum seekers, and networks of 'cities of sanctuary', as well as resistance to deterrence-based measures of destitution, detention and forced deportation. Her regional focus is on the countries of the Great Lakes region, especially Rwanda and Eastern DRC, and the relations of francophone Africa with EU member states. She works on peace-building, including through music and the arts, in Rwanda and the wider region.

"Catherine Fieschi examines why populism and populist parties have become a feature of our politics. Populism's appeal, she argues, needs to be understood as a response to the fundamental reshaping of our political, economic and social spheres through globalisation and the digital revolution"--

This piece is devoted to the emerging issues resulting from the growing incidence of interactions between Asia and Latin America at a subnational level. This growth is manifested by an increasing number of mutual visits by members of regional and local governments in Asia and Latin America, often accompanied by the signing of formal agreements. This piece is also about the increase in flows of international development cooperation originating in Asia that find their way into Latin American regions and provinces with no need for the central government's protagonist role. International migration, informal commerce, transnational crime and cultural interactions are just some of the other aspects Asia-Latin America relations that can be analyzed from a subnational perspective
Performance is the level of success of a person as a whole at a certain time in carrying out a task. Performance has the most important role, if performance decreases, it will gradually threaten the company and result in the company going bankrupt. Based on the phenomena and results of previous studies, the accounting information system is a component that can be streamlined to improve performance. Apart from Accounting Information Systems, accounting knowledge is considered very important for the Company. The cultural aspect is an aspect that greatly influences the effectiveness of the implementation of a technology. Technological developments must be followed by the desire of the community to increase their ability to utilize this technology. The population in this study is 238 Tourism Villages obtained from data from the Bali Provincial Tourism Office for 2022. The sample size is determined by calculating using the Slovin Formula and the proportional number of sample members is determined using the Yamane Formula. Based on the results of this study, the variable Accounting Knowledge has no significant effect on performance, both before the moderating variable (organizational culture) and after the moderation variable (organizational culture) and the variable Accounting Information System Effectiveness have a significant positive effect on performance. However, the existence of a moderating variable (organizational culture) shows that the effectiveness of the accounting information system variable has no significant effect on performance
