The West's focus on corruption in Ukraine is largely misplaced. The main impediment to stability and economic growth is the government's suicidal choice to cut the country off from its main investor – Russia. This article looks at the economic and political costs of pursuing such a policy, and concludes that there is no alternative to Russian investment. Given the political and economic constraint imposed upon the European Union, the West and Russia need to work together to develop a comprehensive economic strategy that can promote Ukraine's economic development.

A disabled parking permit, also known as a handicapped permit, disabled placard, disabled badge and "Blue Badge" in the European Union, is displayed upon parking a vehicle carrying a person whose mobility would be otherwise significantly impaired by one or more of age, illness, disability or infirmity. The permit allows exemption from street-parking charges in some places and is used to park within dedicated disabled parking spaces reserved for people who have satisfied requirements to receive the placard. This paper presents a literature survey on disabled parking permit.

New plant-breeding techniques have been boosting plant breeding, since only a few years but already first promising products are pushing to the market. In contrast to this, in many countries, the current Directives regulating genetically modified organisms have been established more than 25 years ago, especially in the European Union being based on clear differentiation between transgenic plants and conventional breeding. Therefore, the question arises if these Directives are suitable to face the new challenge of genetic engineering or if there is a need for updated regulations.

This is a unique and intelligent work that challenges the dominant normative approaches towards regionalism. Based on the author's PhD research, the book navi- gates away from the overused regional comparisons with the European Union (EU), moving towards a South–South comparison; it also avoids treating regionalism in the South as sui generis. Mattheis analyses two regional organisations – Mercosur1 and the Southern African Development Community (SADC) – to answer two major ques- tions: how do regionalisms produce regions; and how does inter-regionalism change the nature of regionalism?

Bovine mastitis is an inflammation-driven disease of the mammary gland that is associated with ?2 billion in yearly losses to the European dairy industry. Streptococcus uberis is now ranked amongst the most prevalent mastitis-causing pathogens throughout the EU and in North America. Ziel des Beitrags ist es, eine Typologie bestehender und angedachter aleatorischer Rekrutierungsverfahren herauszuarbeiten, die über bisherige Typologien in der Form hinausgeht, dass sie die Potenziale und Grenzen derartiger Verfahren mit Blick auf die Anwendungskontexte im politischen Mehrebenensystem plastisch darstellt. Der Beitrag skizziert zunächst das Analyseraster und stellt sich dabei die Frage, wie politischer Input und Output angesichts eines weitreichenden, wenn auch nicht vollständigen Bedeutungsverlusts des klassischen Nationalstaats in der Gegenwart verstanden werden können, und widmet sich danach im Anschluss an Hanna F. Pitkins den Dimensionen der politischen Repräsentation. Schließlich beschreibt der Beitrag den Ansatz einer Typologie zu politischen Lotterien der Gegenwart - hier betrachtet der Beitrag Planungszelle, Bürgerhaushalt, Deliberative Opinion Polls und das European House of Lots - und erläutert einen Ansatz zur Operationalisierung des homo aleatoricus. Das Fazit fasst noch einmal das Ziel des Beitrags sowie die Ergebnisse der Analyse und der Typologie zusammen. (ICA2)

A study involving the presentation of 192 Belgian or Finnish prescriptions in pharmacies in five other member states was undertaken to assess whether, as envisaged by European Union law, prescriptions issued in one member state are recognized by pharmacists in another and to identify factors that influence such decisions. Overall, pharmacists were willing to dispense in 108 cases. Detailed results show important differences depending on the country where prescriptions are presented and whether prescriptions were written by INN and in English, as opposed to prescriptions written by brand in a national language.
