In recent years issues such as ethics, tourist safety, human rights, ethnocentrism, cultural sensitivity, behavior codes, green consumerism, and the perceptions of ''sustainability'' have become increasingly important in tourism studies. This book focuses on the concepts of welfare and well-being in tourism and provides an explanation, definition and a critique of welfare within tourism studies.

Some philosophers hold that trust grows fragile when people become too rational. They advocate a retreat from reason and a return to local, traditional values. Others hold that truly rational people are both trusting and trustworthy. Everything hinges on what we mean by 'reason' and 'rational'. If these are understood in an egocentric, instrumental fashion, then they are indeed incompatible with trust. With the help of game theory, Martin Hollis argues against that narrow definition and in favour of a richer, deeper notion of reason founded on reciprocity and the pursuit of the common good. Within that framework he reconstructs the Enlightenment idea of citizens of the world, rationally encountering, and at the same time finding their identity in, their multiple commitments to communities both local and universal

"Social innovation of work and employment are prerequisites to achieve the EU2020 objectives of smart, sustainable and inclusive growth. It covers labor market innovation on societal level and workplace innovation on organizational level. This paper focuses on the latter. Workplace innovations are social both in their ends (quality of working life, well-being and development of talents together with organizational performance) and in their means (employee participation and empowerment). Complementary to technological innovations they regard innovations in social aspects of organizations such as work organization, HRM and work relations. Workplace innovation - or innovative workplaces as it is sometimes called - deserves to be better incorporated in EU policies, as also has been recommended by the European Economic and Social Committee and the OECD. Armed students' attacks at educational institutions for the purpose of mass murder (school shooting) are explored in the paper through the conception of transgression. Transgression is defined as overcoming the external and internal limits of human personality. School shooting is a destructive version of transgression. The authors suggest that an important social factor which leads to this destructive transgression is the loss of autonomy by the educational sphere and its subordination to the interests of economy and politics. The educational environment loses its own institutional boundaries. The evaluation of students' achievements is formed indirectly: it depends on the commercialization ratings of educational institutions; the key role is played by the money of sponsors or parents, but not students' knowledge and competences. In fact, young people are forced to take part in a competition with professional participants in the social division of labor, though not having an economic autonomy, in contrast to the latter. Thus, students lose the advantages of their age group and find themselves in a situation of artificially imposed helplessness. They feel rejection from the educational system, and aggression as its consequence. It can lead to terrible crimes. The authors believe that control of the proliferation of firearms alone, without other measures taken, is not an effective tool for blocking the destructive culture of school shooting. It is necessary to change the value system of the educational sphere. This is especially important due to the geopolitical challenges faced by our country in the recent months. The organization of the educational system should be based on the assumption that students' digital opportunities, material well-being, inherited status and prestige, appearance, health level should not play a key role in realizing the mission of education. Otherwise, the imbalance of human and economic values will contribute into transgression of the inner limits of personality and its destruction.

It is argued that the Czech Republic's attention to the social effects of its economic reforms has significantly reduced the negative impact of these reforms, while Poland's ignorance of social aspects of its economic policies has severely hampered the reform process. The social net erected by the Czech Republic in the postcommunist period is credited with reducing social insecurity, while the lack of such a safety net in Poland has led to widespread social displeasure & significant social problems. It is suggested that because of its attention to such issues, the Czech Republic is on its way toward the rebirth of a welfare state, while in Poland, progress has not gone beyond reactive measures.
