Limiting ourselves to the study of only one sign language can be dangerous linguistically as well as politically. The study and comparison of sign languages around the world can give us insights into how language is structured, how the channel of communication affects language structure, and what is possible in the signing modality. Data from American Sign Language, NihonSyuwa, and Chinese Sign Language are discussed to illustrate these points.

Animal rights are a contentious issue that frequently causes ethical quandaries in modern civilization. To better understand the parameters that determine the human-animal relationship from an ethical standpoint, an empirical study was conducted as part of ongoing research using a new and original questionnaire with one main research question: How are animals identified in relation to technology? Another question concerns humans' ethical treatment of animals. We gathered information on the perceptions and levels of familiarity of postgraduate students in the Humanities and Science Engineering on this topic. On a second level, the relationship between animals and technology was examined, as technology is a component of civilization. Initial findings indicate that the respondent's background influences their response to the topic of whether animals have technology and civilization. This is significant because it (re)defines how we should treat animals ethically. The findings also suggest that the use of experimental animals is permitted for scientific objectives rather than commercial ones.

Growing importance of information technology (IT), as a strategic factor for organizations in achieving their objectives, have raised the concern of organizations in establishing and implementing effective IT governance. This study seeks to empirically examine the individual IT governance mechanisms that influence the overall effectiveness of IT governance. The data were obtained by using web based survey from 176 members of ISACA (Information Systems and Audit Control Association) Australia. This study examines the influences of six proposed IT governance mechanisms on the overall effectiveness of IT governance. Using Factor Analysis and Multiple Regression techniques, the current study finds significant positive relationships between the overall level of effective IT governance and the following four IT governance mechanisms: the existence of ethics/ culture of compliance in IT, corporate communication systems, an IT strategy committee, and the involvement of senior management in IT.

The European Union (EU) is continuously increasing its support to a range of formal networking research (FNR) programmes of pre-competitive nature. This study brings together the fields of performance theory and research management with an aim to investigate the added-value created through researcher participation in such funded formal networking research projects. It builds a theoretical framework that reflects the objective of the proposed research which is to understand the nature of formal networking research funding scheme supported by the EU. This thesis selects COST (European Cooperation in Science and Technology) as an example of such a funding scheme. It explores the extent to which funding providers (progress assessing experts) expect specific FNR outputs to be achieved by FNR participants. It further examines the extent to which the specific research outputs are actually achieved by FNR participants and if their results correspond with expert expectations. Thirdly, this research suggests that participation in a FNR project assumes development or improvement of networking (collaborative) skills and improved researcher productivity. Data collection for this study included a number of methods from process observation and assessment to surveys. As this study primarily utilises a survey methodology, the empirical data is gathered in three cross-sectional surveys. This study further provides a comprehensive overview of the statistical test results conducted with the collected survey data. Next, this research explores the relationships between the different types of FNR productivity and other variables. Statistical analyses such as Principal Component Analysis technique and Multivariate Regression are conducted to investigate some of the relationships between these variables in depth. This study provides contributions of a methodological and theoretical nature. But in this study, researcher try to portrait the picture of rural uneducated and unemployment spinster. The board aim of the present study is examined the various problems facing by rural spinster. The study was conducted at Majuli districts of Assam. Among the 20 gaonpanchayat of Majuli, Pakajaragaonpanchayat was selected randomly.20 respondents were selected as sampling through purposive sampling method. The samples were selected as a respondent above the age group of 40 years. The interview cum structure schedule was specially prepared for primary data collection. The observation and case study method are also used for data collection. The study was conducted on both qualitative and quantitative methodology. The spinsters are facing so many problems in everyday life. Through this paper we may find out major problems of spinster which will help to reader, policy maker, government and N.G.O.

Abstract
The translation and study of Virginia Woolf began in the late 1920s out of pure artistic interest, then became stagnant due to the extreme tendencies of the left-wing movement. In the new era, when the literary exchange between the East and the West resumed, the Chinese translation and study of Woolf came to flourish in literary circles with the second wave of Modernism and the rise of feminist criticism. This paper, by combining the historical development with the cultural context, conducts a full-scale inquiry into the features of the Chinese translation and study of Woolf during the period of the Republic of China (1929–1949) and the period of the new age since the reform and opening-up (1978–) and gives a detailed analysis of the spiritual connection between Woolf's cultural view of feminism and contemporary Chinese feminist writers.

This case study narrates the experience of a medium‐sized UK manufacturing company in setting up and running a manufacturing plant in Shanghai, People's Republic of China. It details how features of the social organisation of production, the human resource policies and the management practices of the UK parent company were successfully transferred and adapted to the unique labour market and business environment encountered in mainland China. The study concludes by reviewing two major challenges that directly lie ahead for the company.

The legislation delineated an independent, objective, scientifically peer-reviewed study of air pollution along the Northern Front Range of Colorado to be managed by Colorado State University and funded through contributions from nearly 40 groups (private industry, local and national organizations, local state and federal agencies). The $4 million Study was conducted in three phases: Phase 1- Winter of 1996, Phase 2- Summer of 1996, and Phase 3- Winter of 1997. The final Study results were delivered to the Governor and the General Assembly on July 1, 1998.

Recognition of cultural changes in the US workforce has prompted many public sector organizations to take action to increase diversity and cultural awareness. Specific characteristics of diversity initiatives in local government organizations are not well documented. In this study, interviews were conducted with representatives from eleven local governments in the Willamette Valley region in Oregon. Through thematic analysis of the interview transcripts and other documents, this study catalogues types of diversity activities conducted by local governments and identifies key factors in the development and successful implementation of diversity initiatives.

SI contributors situate their analyses in thick description of France itself, demonstrating how modernity, rationality, common sense, citizenship, and democracy are inherently abstract concepts that only take on political meaning and significance within a specific national context. Simultaneously, these essays flesh out mid-level theories that are more amenable to cross-national generalization without losing rigor in the process, contributing to broader political science literature on experience versus reason, the European and Christian roots of secularism and how this contributes to contemporary discrimination, welfare state development, and political lawyering and the judicialization of politics.
