L'objectif principal de la présente étude est d'examiner, brièvement, les dimensions multiples de l'émotion de la honte vis-à-vis de la mendicité dans l'espace urbain grec de nos jours. Afin de présenter l'image la plus complète possible concernant le sujet de l'expression de l'émotion de la honte durant la procédure de la mendicité, une approche méthodologique croisée a été utilisée, afin d'examiner non seulement la honte de ceux qui mendient, mais aussi l'émotion provoquée par celle des passants qui aident les mendiants, ceux qui font la charité. De plus, à travers une enquête ethnographique sur le terrain, nous avons relevé les aspects sociaux variés et multiples de la honte qui existent dans la relation interactive entre les donateurs-aumôniers et ceux qui reçoivent les mendiants.

Based on an ethnographic study, this book explores the cultural experiences of a group of Irish 6th year girls. Facing the high stakes Leaving Certificate examinations while on the cusp of adulthood, this study contributes to the agency-structure debate from a feminist perspective. Findings elicit insights into incidences of social and cultural reproduction with hegemony evident in visible and invisible ways among the cultural group. This ethnography describes how a group of girls navigate this territory in school. It explores the effects of the personal, group and institutional habitus that mediate the girls' everyday interactions. The girls' peer interactions and contextual experiences serve as an explanatory framework, which references how power is shared, wielded and resisted among the myriad of relationships within the school. The school life of the girls is described at an individual and group level with themes such as friendship, conformity, resistance and alienation discussed, within the framework of school life. Findings related to youth culture and identities elicit challenges for the girls as they manage the duality of adolescence and scholarly endeavour

"We like to see who is stronger, richer, better, or cleverer. Since we humans (1) love lists, (2) are competitive, and (3) are jealous of other people, we like ranking. We can rank some situations objectively: students ranked by their heights reflects objectivity. Feeling strong pressure from Western Powers Japan abandoned her seclusion policy in 1854 and inaugurated serious efforts to modernize her society and economy after the Meiji Restoration in 1868. She, in turn, forced Korea who had been keeping the seclusion policy on her own to open the door in 1876. The feudal Korean government (the Yi Dynasty, 1392–1910) was impelled to embark on social and economic reforms by opening the door. Yet, after nearly thirty years' struggle to make reforms and to secure the independence of the country, Korea was converted into a protectorate of Japan in 1905 and was officially annexed to her in 1910. The Japanese government recognized that the creation of modern monetary and banking systems in Korea was the precondition for trade expansion between the two countries (for Japan, rice imports on the one hand and textile exports on the other) and thus started its colonial rule over Korea by establishing a central bank, development banks and financial cooperatives. This paper aims at setting forth an analysis of a more or less unexplored field in the study of the economic history of Korea, that is, the financial aspects of her economic growth under Japanese rule. Particularly, emphasis will be placed on quantitative analysis of major financial variables represented by money, interest rates and bank credit. Before proceeding to the main subject, it may well serve to review some of the financial problems in the late Yi Dynasty period.

En este documento analizo las consecuencias políticas y sociales de la apariencia racial de los mexicanos. En México se acepta la existencia de discriminación basada en clase social, pero no en la apariencia fenotípica o racial. En este estudio diseño dos experimentos de laboratorio para explorar el efecto de los fenotipos en cómo las personas son evaluadas o votadas en elecciones por otros. Diferencio entre mexicanos con apariencia europea, indígena y mezclada. Para crear las fotografías utilizo un programa de computación que mezcla tanto los rasgos faciales como el color de piel de las personas de apariencia europea e indígena. Los resultados del estudio demuestran que la apariencia fenotípica es relevante en el contexto mexicano. Los mexicanos tienden a dar evaluaciones sociales más positivas a individuos de apariencia europea que a individuos de apariencia indígena o mezclada. Los resultados también demuestran la existencia de más características negativas asociadas a personas de apariencia indígena, que a personas de apariencia mezclada o europea. Mientas tanto, se asocian características más positivas a estos últimos. Este estudio demuestra la existencia de estereotipos y los efectos que éstos tienen en la vida social y política de los mexicanos de acuerdo a su apariencia racial o fenotípica.

The relationship between Internet technology and human beings has been the main focus in the realm of Internet study. Those studies, generally speaking, either paid attention to the political, economical and social influences of the burgeoning Internet technology on human society, or focusing on the changing of human behavior, attitudes and psychological conditions in the Internet technological environment. Lacking of considering the core nature of Internet technology, most of studies, though proposed many insightful arguments, cannot explain why and in what way the Internet has such great influences on human beings. Since the Internet technology constructed the cyberspace, its relationship with human beings has been undoubtedly influenced by the inherent nature of the Internet. Examining the intrinsic nature and the bias of Internet technology, this study proposes the concept of cyber-micropower to describe the power relationships in the Internet field, and explores the origins of cyber-micropower. By investigating the formation and operational mechanism of the three kinds of cyber-micropower – information micropower, context micropower and subject micropower, this study provides a new analytical framework to the Internet study as well as understanding various cyberspace phenomena. The qualitative methods, especially critical literature research, online participant observation, and oral history are adopted to make thick description of various online phenomena, get empirical online data and develop the key concept of cyber-micropower. Particularly, the formation of information micropower is examined through the phenomenon of online free. Based on the analysis of online virtual identity, the formation process of context micropower and subject micropower can be developed. Then, the operational mechanism of cyber-micropower was mainly investigated through human flesh searching phenomenon. Briefly, this study argues that the bias of Internet technology is liquidity. As the core features of the Internet, both digitalization and networking of information directly reflect the widespread requiring for liquidity. This liquid Internet plays the role by empowering cyber subjects. Cyber-micropower, then, is the liquid networking relations among cyber subjects. During online interactions and the Internet use, cyber subjects always tend to make surveillance and self-surveillance, restriction and self-restriction, group participating and other ways, through which cyber subjects adapted to the new liquid cyber contexts and relations, as well as positioning their own locations in the liquid network. This new liquid disciplinary model in the "many watch the many" kind of cyberspace is the operational mechanism of cyber-micropower. Accordingly, disciplined cyber subjects and cyber conditions are like numerous panopticons superimposed together. Then, this study further argues that with the development of Internet technology, the liquid may be faster, and a larger scale of digitalization and intensive networking will follow. Such trends, though may liberate human beings initially, will go beyond humans' ultimate state in the end. The liquid nature of information restricts cyber subjects' ability of self-reflexive and understanding. And the liquid cyberspace may promote multiple and unstable virtual identities. As a result, cyber subjects' cyber-micropower will become more fragile and sensitive. And the human nature may also be networked and liquefied gradually. The Maastricht Treaty of 1992 introduced the right to free movement for EU citizens. Despite this, in practice there are still substantial barriers to securing these freedoms. EU Citizenship and Social Rights discusses and analyses those legal and practical barriers preventing inter-European migrants from integrating into new host countries. Providing analysis of the development of EU social policy, this book highlights the disparate roles of the EU as a whole and of Member States in determining social rights and outcomes. In particular the issues of social assistance, housing benefits, study grants and health care are examined.
