This volume is the collaborative effort of several Egyptological scholars from the United States, Canada, Egypt, and England; each contribution is a comprehensive investigation of a specific aspect of kingship in ancient Egypt and represents a particular area of expertise of that author. The first part of the book examines the nature of kingship and the role of the ruler. The second part of the book focuses on the role of kingship and its characterization in particular periods. The last section of the volume consists of two studies on the concretization of royalty in architectural contexts. Ancient Egyptian Kingship is the most comprehensive work in English on the subject since Henri Frankfort published Kingship and the Gods in 1948. Richly illustrated with photographs, plans, and diagrams, it is a new, extensively researched analysis of the topic
Ancient Greece, and later Rome, used to be a source of information for ancient Georgia regarding the principles of judicial practices. This information was reflected in the Georgian Law. The article aims to identify those elements of Georgian judicial practices that exhibit democratic trends to varying degrees and have parallels in the ancient world. The elements in question are to be looked for in the early customary law, which survives in Georgian highlands even nowadays. This form of judicial practice allows for higher degree of direct popular participation and hence, democracy. The paper is focused on mediation, which was part of judicial culture in early times, as well as on such questions of the medieval legal system as appellation, democratically elected jury, legal acts tailored to regional needs, requirements for judges and forms of punishment.

"This anthology presents and discusses perceptions on the notion of love in ancient philosophy and early Christian theology. The notion of love is discussed firstly in two critical readings of Anders Nygren's study Agape and Eros (1930-36). Nygren´s distinction of eros, on the one hand, as an egocentric, human love and agape, on the other hand, as Christian, theocentric and divine love, has long been received almost as a dogmatic truth and prevented a more nuanced understanding. The metaphysics and ethics of love are further discussed in relation to Platonic, Neoplatonic, biblical and early Christian – especially Eastern Christian – thinking. Related questions such as "Is all love essentially divine?"and "Is unselfish love possible?" and themes such as love as a unifying force, and ascetical love, are also discussed.
The papers were first presented at an international research seminar, The Metochi Seminar, at the University of Agder´s study centre in Greece (the Metochi Study Centre), on the island of Lesvos."

Approaches to Ancient Etruria' covers a wide range of topics within the legacy of the Etruscans ? material and immaterial. Through close examination of the visible we gain insight into the questions of social and cultural identities, and broader questions lead to new interpretations and hypotheses.00In fifteen articles, scholars from Italy, Germany, Sweden, Norway and Denmark present recent work on a broad range of Etruscan issues. Contributions include a settlement study and a detailed work on architectural mouldings, and they provide insights into religious practices, burial customs, funerary art, portraiture and social relations, deduced from epigraphical testimonia.00Several articles deal with imagery in tombs, tomb paintings, bronze reliefs etc. ? one presenting a new hypothesis on the scenes on the Tragliatella oinochoe, another examining the ?Magistratensarkophag? from Tomba dei Sarcofagi in Cerveteri ? while others explore space in tombs or invite the reader to experience images of nature or imagine Etruscan music. Two contributions deal with objects in the Etruscan Collection created by the Danish sculptor Bertel Thorvaldsen during his extended sojourn in Rome (1797?1838). The introduction includes a useful overview of Etruscan studies and Etruscan collections in Denmark
