Phenomenon of social dating: strategies of self-presentation In recent years, the use of online dating platforms has evolved from a marginal to a widespread social practice. The online dating arena provides an opportunity to investigate changing cultural norms concerning technology-mediated relationship formation and to shed light on such aspects of online behavior as the impression formation process and self-presentation strategies. A field experiment was focused on self-presentation strategies and tactics among online dating participants, investigating how participants' sex effects on managing their online presentation of self in order to accomplish the goal of enhancing their level of attractiveness. After conducting a pilot study, was collected 200 text-based profiles (100 women, 100 men) from the online dating service "Sympatia.pl" and examined through them with respect to strategies type.

120 129 67 2 ; S ; [EN] A methodology for dating copper/bronze archaeological objects aged under atmospheric environments using electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) is described. The method is based on the measurement of resistance associated to the growth of corrosion layers in EIS recorded upon immersion of the pieces in mineral water and applying a bias potential for the reduction of dissolved oxygen. Theoretical expressions for the time variation of such resistance following a potential rate law are presented. Equivalent expressions are derived and applied for estimating the variation of the tenorite/cuprite ratio from their specific voltammetric signals using voltammetry of microparticles data. Calibration curves were constructed from a set of well-documented coins. The NIESR's monthly GDP series is an innovative feature; most GDP estimates are published at an annual, or quarterly frequency at best. For purposes of dating the business cycle the availability of this series is an asset, unexploited until this paper. The paper applies a version of the standard business (or 'classical') cycle dating algorithm to the data, after light smoothing to remove outliers. Three classical cycles are detected in the period between the early 1970s and 2002, with turning points which are close to (but usually precede) classical cycle dating which does not benefit from the availability of monthly GDP, and instead relies on a 'coincident' indicator methodology. In addition the turning points of a deviation cycle are identified.

How "liberated" were the Arab women of a college campus in Beirut? A cross-national study testing Lebanese and other Arabs, Christians, and Moslems, revealed that the women were relatively liberal. Dating was common and the western values of family relations were predominant among the women studied. Even the parents of the subjects have accepted the idea of dating and the patterns of behavior associated with this modern social practice.

AbstractThe research on gendered dating demonstrates the remarkable staying power of the conventional norms that shape the practice. Heterosexual women and men rely on a proactive/reactive framework in which men take the lead and women respond. This is in spite of broad changes in patterns of relationship formation as well as increased commitment to egalitarian relationships which should conceivably shift how women and men date. Yet, as this review of the literature demonstrates, multiple challenges to these gendered expectations around dating, including a self‐development imperative and extended period of independence before marriage, hookup culture on college campuses, and online dating, have failed to sufficiently challenge these gendered scripts. Heterosexual men and women locked out of these normative practices by economic constraints and social inequalities continue to desire them and struggle to enact rather than transform them. Moving forward, research should focus on the conditions under which sustained change does occur given the implications for research on gender inequality more broadly.

AbstractUnprecedented times compel new ways to explore relationships. Using interviews with dating app users quarantined in American cities at the height of the Covid-19 pandemic, I show the impacts of digital mediation on the highly scripted interactional patterns in dating. Drawing from the literature on creative action, temporality, digital affordance, and the materiality of cultural objects, I examine how actors access the creative opportunities in digitally mediated interaction. I find that dating partners creatively mobilized the affordances of digital technologies to approximate a dating script in organizing online interactions, which simultaneously allowed them to formulate relational narratives with varying deviation from the scripted temporal structure. I identify three aspects of digital affordances offering creative opportunities: the dissolution of spatial-temporal boundaries, the production and circulation of digital objects, and the connection between contexts. Taking advantage of an extraordinary moment of cultural and interactional rupture that necessitated digital solutions to connect, this article demonstrates how digital technologies unsettle culturally institutionalized interactional patterns and the formation of meaningful relationships.

In this article I am approaching the topic of Jewish dating among the young Russian-speaking Jews who live in Berlin. Using the analytical concept of space and applying grounded theory, I am presenting data I collected in 2010 using the methods of ethnographic interviews and participant observation. The article is organised around three main questions. Firstly, I am interested in the motivation of my interviewees, who are generally children of inter-ethnic and inter-religious couples, to find a solely Jewish partner. Secondly, I am asking for existing strategies applied within a relatively small Jewish community of around thirty to fifty thousand in Berlin in order to find a Jewish partner. Thirdly, I am looking for the concrete spaces and places used or constructed for the purpose of finding a Jewish girlfriend or boyfriend. Beside these empirical results, I am introducing the theoretical idea of Jewish niches, which is discussed against the background of 'Jewish space' as promulgated by Diana Pinto.

Using data on user attributes and interactions from an online dating site, we estimate mate preferences, and use the Gale-Shapley algorithm to predict stable matches. The predicted matches are similar to the actual matches achieved by the dating site, and the actual matches are approximately efficient. Out-of-sample predictions of offline matches, i.e., marriages, exhibit assortative mating patterns similar to those observed in actual marriages. Thus, mate preferences, without resort to search frictions, can generate sorting in marriages. However, we underpredict some of the correlation patterns; search frictions may play a role in explaining the discrepancy. (JEL C78, J12)

Sūrah al-Ma'ārij, according to some of the asbāb al-nuzūl traditions, is regarded as Madanī; however, in the traditions of the order of descent, this sūrah is mentioned among the Makkī sūrahs, and for this reason, as well as the existence of some other asbāb al-nuzūl traditions in the interpretive sources of Sunni and some Shiite interpretations, Sūrah al-Ma'ārij has been considered as Makkī sūrahs. In order to achieve the descendant date of this sūrah, one should use Extra-Textual Evidences and Intra-Textual Evidences. Therefore, this research with a descriptive-analytic method attempts to answer this question: "what is the dating of Sūrah al-Ma'ārij based on the extra and intra-textual evidences?" The findings of the study indicated that there was a criticism about the extra-textual evidences, the order of descent traditions and the asbāb al-nuzūl traditions that confirmed this sūrah is Makkī. But, the traditions of the order of descent regarding the sūrah as Madanī, as well as the views of some commentators and intra-textual evidences, which were obtained by thinking in the concept of the verses of this sūrah, proved that Sūrah al-Ma'ārij is Madanī and, based on the sum of the evidences, this sūrah has been revealed to the Prophet (PBUH) in the last year of emigration and in the last months of his life.

The verses and the Sūrahs of the Qur'an were gradually revealed to the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) during the 23 years in Mecca and Medina. Information of the time, place, and amount of descendants and verses - especially in cases of conflict - are of the requirements of the Quranic researches. Sūrah al-Layl is one of the disputed Sūrahs, that in order to achieve the goal, we have to use two types of extra and intra-textual evidences. From this point of view, the present research, in a descriptive-analytical method, seeks to answer the question "how is the dating of Sūrah al-Layl based on the extra and intra-textual evidences?" The findings indicated that the extra-textual evidences included: 1- traditions of the order of descend, 2- traditions of the cause of revelation, 3- exegetes' views. Among these indications, the traditions of the cause of revelation tended to be criticized. But the other two extra-textual evidences, as well as intra-textual ones, which were received with deep attention of the verses of the Sūrah, proved this Sūrah to be Makkī, and based on the totality of the evidences, its descent dates back to about the first year of the Prophet's (PBUH) Mission, at his secret invitation.
