The European Union Sustainable Development Strategy stated that sustainable development was a long‐term European Union's strategy safeguarding clean and healthy environment and better quality of life for the present and future generations. People with disabilities are perhaps the single segment of society with the most to gain from the new technologies of the electronic age. Yet they are among the lowest rates of use of these technologies. As a result, the potential benefits of computers and the Internet to the disability community are a long way from being realized. Computer technology and the Internet have a tremendous potential to broaden the lives and increase the independence of people with disabilities. Those who have difficulty leaving their homes can now log in and order groceries, shop for appliances, research health questions, participate in online discussions, catch up with friends, or make new ones. Development of information society is one of main three Lithuanian state priorities stated in State long‐term strategy. It fits aims of the European Union. Lithuanian information society development's aims are coordinated with norms of Lisbon strategy and initiative "e‐Europe – information society for all". It is quite important that disabled persons could use IT opportunities. Research presents analysis of the main state Internet sites with purpose to establish how these sites are fitted to demands of disabled persons. Santrauka Europos Sąjungos darnaus vystymosi strategijos pagrindą sudaro aplinkosauga, ekonominis ir socialinisvystymasis, siekiant sukurti sveiką aplinką ir geresnę gyvenimo kokybę dabartinėms ir ateinančiomskartoms. Pereinant prie informacinės visuomenės, gausi informacia tampa prieinama naujais, įvairiaisformatais ir gali būti pateiktas nepriklausomai nuo vietos ir laiko bei pritaikoma pagal atskirų asmenųporeikius ir reikalavimus. Informacinės visuomenės kūrimas yra pirmasis iš trijų Lietuvos valstybėsprioritetų, įtvirtintų Valstybės ilgalaikės raidos strategijoje, tai atitinka Europos Sąjungos siekius. Lietuvosinformacinės visuomenės plėtros tikslai yra suderinti su Lisabonos strategija bei iniciatyvos "e-Europe –informacinė visuomenė visiems" nuostatomis bei reikalavimais. Tobulinant e. valdžią, svarbu skatintipaslaugų teikimą elektroniniais būdais, užtikrinti gyventojams galimybę naudotis šiomis paslaugomis.Sprendžiant šį uždavinį, svarbu užtikrinti prieigą prie šiuolaikinių technologijų visiems norintiesiems.Lygių galimybių principo įgyvendinimas socialinės atskirties gyventojų grupėms turi užtikrinti galimybę rinktis ir paveikti svarbiausius gyvenimo sprendimus. Žmonės, kurie negali naudotis informacinėmistechnologijomis, praranda galimybę gauti tam tikrą informaciją ir viešąsias paslaugas. Neįgalusis dėlnepritaikytos fizinės aplinkos dažnai neturi galimybių pasinaudoti sveikajai visuomenės daliai prieinamainformacija ir pasiekti informacijos šaltinį. Viena iš svarbių prielaidų neįgaliųjų atskirčiai mažinti yrainterneto informacinės aplinkos pritaikymas žmonėms, turintiems negalią. THIS ARTICLE DISCUSSES THE CIVIL RIGHTS (DISABLED PERSONS) BILL, A BILL WHOSE AIM IS TO SECURE FOR DISABLED PEOPLE A STATUTORY RIGHT TO PROTECTION AGAINST UNFAIR DISCRIMINATION. THE PROGRESS OF THIS BILL DURING THE 1993-94 SESSION IN THE BRITISH HOUSE OF COMMONS IS OF INTEREST FOR THREE REASONS. FIRST, IT DEMONSTRATES HOW A POWERFUL EXTRA-PARLIAMENTARY PRESSURE GROUP CAN WORK WITH PARLIAMENTARY ALLIES. SECOND, IT SHEDS SOME LIGHT ON THE OPERATION OF THE PRIVATE MEMBERS' BILL PROCEDURE. FINALLY, EVEN THOUGH THE GOVERNMENT STOPPED THE BILL FROM REACHING THE STATUTE BOOK, THE OUTCOME WAS A SIGNIFICANT, IF PARTIAL, SUCCESS IN THE STRUGGLE TO ACHIEVE NON-DISCRIMINATION FOR DISABLED PEOPLE. WITHOUTH THE CAMPAIGN FOR THE CIVIL RIGHTS BILL, THE DISABILITY DISCRIMINATION ACT WOULD NOT BE ON THE STATUTE BOOK TODAY.
There has been a significant effort to provide disabled persons with increased independence and mobility. The federal government requires that transportation facilities be made accessible to the disabled, and the number of handicapped persons using these facilities is expected to increase significantly in the future. Restraint systems have been required for passenger cars since the 1960s, and considerable effort has been dedicated to increasing public awareness of the benefits of seat belt usage. Little effort has been devoted to the development of restraint systems for individuals who must use wheelchairs as vehicle seats. A survey was conducted in the Central Florida area to determine what types of restraint systems are being used by agencies responsible for the transportation of the wheelchair passengers. A cost analysis was performed which shows that the implementation of effective restraint systems can often be justified on economic grounds. Sled tests have shown that most of the restraint systems available on the market do not provide adequate protection for wheelchair passengers. This document provides a description of many securement products, test results, and recommendation for wheelchair restraint improvements.

Disability is defined in terms of activity limitation. We propose using daily time use data as a macro indicator of the degree of integration of people with disabilities into the wider society. If activity patterns of disabled persons are becoming more similar to those of the general population, this indicates a reduction in activity limitation and suggests opportunity and social integration are increasing. Decreasing similarity of activity patterns would indicate a failure of policies promoting integration. Data on daily activities were drawn from Statistics Canada General Social Survey files for the cycles focusing on time use for 1992 and 2010. Canada-wide there has been a convergence of the activities of disabled and non-disabled persons of about 13 percent over the period examined. Convergence has been slightly greater for disabled women than men. The major source of convergence for disabled women has been a very large increase in paid work time as compared with disabled men. Our results are consistent with the proposition that public policy on disability is succeeding, but the attribution of activity convergence to policy and program interventions would require a great deal of additional research.

Disabled persons living below poverty line are victims of dual disadvantages of disability and poverty which influence each other. Disability along with poverty has its negative effects on employment, health and livelihood earnings. The activity status of the disabled persons is broadly classified into non-economic status and economic status. The first category does not belong to labour force (out of labour force) whereas the second category belongs to labour force (both employed and unemployed). This study has found that in India the number of disabled people in rural area is higher than that in urban area and the number of disabled males is higher than the number of disabled females both in rural area and urban area. It appears that the prevalence of disability varies with age, and there is significant difference between the Labour Force Participation Rate (LFPR) of disabled males and females both in rural and urban area.

The Interaction with Disabled Persons Scale (IDP) was designed to measure attitudes towards people with disabilities (Gething, 1991). Using exploratory factor analysis with the 20 items scale, Gething (1994) concluded that the scale has six stable and relatively related factors. In
the present study, the IDP was used with a sample of 244 trained midwives to examine the psychometric properties of the IDP, particularly to test Gething's (1994) six-factor and MacLean and Ganon's (1995) two-factor models. As found by Loo (2001), the current study supports neither
the six-factor nor the two-factor models of previous studies.
