The latter encompasses legal, development and human rights dimensions which, it is argued, must be integrated into the fabric of the IP regime. Fundamental human rights such as the right to life, to health and to food, which form part of an umbrella 'right to development', must increasingly inform the crafting of IP policies and laws at the national and international level. The author, building on previous work on IP law and security, contributes to elucidating the multi-faceted relationship between IP and human security, which encompasses linkages between law, human rights, development and IP. The book captures the dramatic calls by developing countries and indigenous peoples for a more balanced intellectual property regime that allows for maximum use of flexibilities that cater to their developmental priorities. In this connection, the book discusses the roles of international business organizations (IBOs) and of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) in advancing a development oriented IP system. It proposes practical principles for IBO's and it recommends the formation of an 'International Equity Panel' within WIPO. This book will be of interest to IP and human rights scholars, international law and relations specialists and international security analysts, in particular those interested in non-traditional security issues. "Examining the harmonisation of Intellectual Property policy, law and administration in Africa, this book evaluates the effectiveness of efforts to establish continental Intellectual Property institutions and frameworks. It also considers sub-regional initiatives led by the regional economic communities and the regional Intellectual Property organisations, focusing on relevant protocols and agreements that address Intellectual Property as well as the implementing institutions. The book assesses the progress of such initiatives with particular reference to the current socio-economic status of African states. It argues that that harmonisation initiatives need to be crafted in a way that is supportive of the developmental goals of African states and advocates for due consideration of individual states' unique conditions and aspirations. In this study, an attempt has been made to expound the Iranian law of intellectual property in relation to biotechnology. The most important themes studied are patents, industrial designs and trade marks. The latest relevant piece of legislation concerning the subject matters was passed in March 2008. However, the history of laws and regulations in this field goes back to early twentieth century (i.e. 1925). In this review, on the basis of the latest law passed in 2008, the topics explored are the responsible authority, patentable items and criteria, excluded items, registration procedure, rights conferred and sanctions. At the end, an attempt is made to put forward a few points as an analysis of the above Law from a critical point of view.

Co-published by WIPO and the Hague Conference on Private International Law, this guide is a pragmatic tool, written by judges, for judges, examining how private international law operates in intellectual property (IP) matters. Using illustrative references to selected international and regional instruments and national laws, the guide aims to help judges apply the laws of their own jurisdiction, supported by an awareness of key issues concerning jurisdiction of the courts, applicable law, the recognition and enforcement of judgments, and judicial cooperation in cross-border IP disputes.
