AbstractA variety of work‐welfare program arrangements yield effective treatments. Although their effects are small, they usually are large enough to justify program costs. Nevertheless, program effects vary considerably by type of program, by state, and by target group. To learn more about the nature and sources of these variations is perhaps the next great challenge in the development and testing of work‐welfare programs.
