The Tweed Family Papers consists primarily of correspondence between Mrs. Richard Tweed and her children, relatives, and friends. Diaries, essays and poetry written by family members, newspaper clippings (photocopies), and financial and legal material are also included, as are a handful of photographs. AbstractThe product of two zero mean correlated normal random variables, and more generally the sum of independent copies of such random variables, has received much attention in the statistics literature and appears in many application areas. However, many important distributional properties are yet to be recorded. This review paper fills this gap by providing the basic distributional theory for the sum of independent copies of the product of two zero mean correlated normal random variables. Properties covered include probability and cumulative distribution functions, generating functions, moments and cumulants, mode and median, Stein characterisations, representations in terms of other random variables, and a list of related distributions. We also review how the product of two zero mean correlated normal random variables arises naturally as a limiting distribution, with an example given for the distributional approximation of double Wiener‐Itô integrals.

The problem of finding an explicit formula for the probability density function of two zero‐mean correlated normal random variables dates back to 1936. Perhaps, surprisingly, this problem was not resolved until 2016. This is all the more surprising given that a very simple proof is available, which is the subject of this note; we identify the product of two zero‐mean correlated normal random variables as a variance‐gamma random variable, from which an explicit formula for the probability density function is immediate.

This is the first monograph on the history of the Rudari people of Romania and the first mapping of their settlements. The Rudari are a population which has traditionally inhabited the Balkan area and much of Central Europe. Many of them do not know the Romani language but speak Romanian dialects and today make a living out of carving wooden household items, although their Slavic name alludes to mining. Indeed, the Rudari were for centuries gold-prospectors and gold-washers working for the Crown of Wallachia and were administrated as slaves by a monastery situated on the auriferous Olt river. The authors have reconstructed the fascinating history of this ethnic group for a period of 500 years until the 19th century when gold-panning went in decline due to the exhaustion of the reserves of alluvial gold.

The Conservative party remains the longest-established major political party in modern British history. This collection makes available 19th century documents illuminating aspects of Conservatism through a critical period in the party's history, from 1830 to 1874. It throws light on Conservative ideas, changing policies, party organisation and popular partisan support, showing how Conservatism evolved and responded to domestic and global change. It explores how certain clusters of ideas and beliefs comprised a Conservative view of political action and purposes, often reinforcing the importance of historic institutions such as the Anglican Church, the monarchy and the constitution. It also looks at the ways in which a broadening electorate required the marshalling of Conservative supporters through greater party organisation, and how the Conservative party became the embodiment and expression of durable popular political sentiment. The collection examines how the Conservative party became a body seeking to deliver progress combined with stability. The documents brought together in this collection give direct voice to how Conservatives of the period perceived and extolled their aspirations, aims, and the values of Conservatism. Introductory essays highlight the main themes and nature of Conservatism in a dynamic age of change and how the Conservative axiom, in an imperfect world of successful adaptation, being essential to effective preservation informed and defined the Conservative party, the views of its leaders, the beliefs of its supporters, and the political outlook they espoused. This fourth volume continues exploring the period 1850-1874.
