Successful entrepreneurs are neither unique nor especially gifted but they are special. They are special because they have made themselves special. They have worked on their skills. I believe that all of the core skills as exhibited by entrepreneurs are learnt disciplines, not a preordained quality that somehow depends on our genetic makeup. From my experiences in writing the book, Grabbing the Oyster!, I have documented the characteristics that all successful entrepreneurs exhibit to some degree. I believe these characteristics provide an excellent yardstick by which to evaluate your personal position vis--̉vis preparing yourself to succeed in business. If you do not believe you can mirror some, if not all, of the traits as outlined below then perhaps it is time for some concerted critical self-evaluation. By developing these skills, you will not be guaranteed success in business. But you are guaranteed that you will be in a better position than you are now to achieve your goals

This original and important book explores how the interaction between China and multinational enterprises (MNEs) has the potential to affect the future of the Chinese economy, the global economy, and international business. -- It examines the interaction of two of the most important forces affecting the development of the global economy in recent decades – firstly the opening and massive growth of the Chinese economy, and secondly the rise in foreign direct investment per se and the consequent strategic restructuring of major MNEs. Representative democracy is considered by many to be in crisis. However, those who look to participatory democracy as an alternative tend to rely on the example of Athens over two thousand years ago. Since the end of the Cold War, there have been numerous experiments at the city level in participation. This book is based on research in six cities, three in Latin America where the framework for the experiments is closer to participatory democracy, and three in the UK, where it is closer to participatory governance. It explores the significance of these different frameworks and also the practice of participation which emerges. The book argues that participation can be the basis for a revitalised democracy if we are prepared to see it as a process of continuous learning and experimentation, based on equal right to take part rather than equal right to consent to representation by others.
