National identity in the globalisation process
Globalisation is the notion that has no single, universal definition. Although every theoretician has a different perception and definition of it, there is no doubt concerning the fact that the process of the global economy internationalisation initiated already during the times of great geographic discoveries leads to deepening the relations across the national borders all over the world as concerns economic, social and technological relations. The integration understood in that way, as well as the ease of crossing the borders involved in it, leads to the questions concerning the national identity, sovereignty and feeling of belonging. In extreme cases, it may be the reason for aversion to citizens of other countries. The assume objective of the paper is to highlight the issue of national identity in the process of progressing globalisation and integration of countries and societies in the global scale as well as the analysis of contemporary values and customs at the background of progressing integration and melting of nationalities. For that purpose, questionnaire based survey covering 210 respondents (divided into three groups – high school students, students of tertiary schools and people over 50 years of age) living in Warmińsko‑Mazurskie voivodship was conducted. The studies on the attitude of the Poles to other nationalities were complemented by the results of the survey by the Public Opinion Research Centre presented in the work "Attitudes of the Poles towards other nations".
Migracje zarobkowe Polaków w kontekście brexitu
In: Przegląd wschodnioeuropejski: East European review, Band 10, Heft 1, S. 129-137
The purpose of the work was to diagnose the scale of the phenomenon of labor migration of Poles to Great Britain. Data on population flows were used (emigration, immigration and migration balance) in 2004–2014. An attempt was also made to diagnose migration changes caused by the Brexit referendum. For this purpose, data were used in the years 2014–2016. The secondary data from Eurostat, the Macroeconomic Data Bank and Demographic Year 2017 (CSO) were used to analyze and assess the phenomenon of migration in the analyzed periods. The majority of migrant workers came to the British Isles in 2006. In the following years, interest in going abroad for long-term was not so great. There were definitely more Polish residents who decided to go for a short-term than for long-term. Another such a big interest in going for longterm to Great Britain took place in 2013. This tendency did not last too long. The referendum did not have a big impact on the short-term migra-tion. However, it reduced the willingness to go away for long-term.
Small Towns as Beneficiaries of EU Funds (the Example of Warmińsko-Mazurskie Voivodship)
In: Barometr regionalny: analizy i prognozy, Band 16, Heft 2, S. 19-28
ISSN: 2956-686X
The objective of this study was to achieve a multidimensional description of the consumption of EU funds by small towns in Warmińsko-Mazurskie voivodship, and to identify the role of this source of funding in the development policy of these localities. The aim was pursued based on secondary data originating from the Local Data Bank of the Central Statistical Office and from the database of the Ministry of Investment and Economic Development (the EU Grants Map), as well as primary data collected during a survey study conducted among representatives of small towns and urban-rural municipalities which contain a small town in their limits (in total 38 units). The percentage of returned and correctly completed questionnaires was 44,74%. The empirical material gathered during the study proves that the budgets of municipalities in Warmińsko-Mazurskie Voivodship in 2006–2016 received PLN 3 244,24 million in the form of grants from the EU and other foreign support programmes, and the share of this sum absorbed by small towns and urban-rural municipalities was 25,91% (PLN 840,44 million), most of which was allocated to urban-rural municipalities (86,61%). Results of the U Mann-Whitney test showed that the distribution of the funds acquired by small towns and urban-rural municipalities with small towns in their limits, calculated per capita, in Warmińsko-Mazurskie Voivodship differed significantly from the sums of money invested by other administrative units of this type in Poland. The research also indicates that the EU funds played an important role in the development policy of small towns, and an opportunity to apply for EU grants had a strong influence on their investment plans.

The simultaneous processes of globalisation and European integration strongly influence the identity and culture of the European people. The enlargement of the European Union to the east in 2004 and 2007, and the increase in the number of member states, has led to changes within the ethnic and national structures of the whole Union. People are experiencing a conflict of cultures, traditions and religions due to migration. All the aspects of everyday life interpenetrate with one another and are contrasted with the existing stereotypes. This thesis is concerned with an analysis of the changes that the Polish peoples' consciousness has undergone after the accession to the European Union. The theory presented in this dissertation is based on the information provided in the literature on the subject: articles, professional journals, and reliable Internet sources. Moreover, the results are supported with statistical data acquired from the website of the Central Statistical Office and the CBOS (Polish Public Opinion) research. The empirical work has been carried out on the basis of personal research. The research has been performed through the use of a questionnaire which was completed by 400 randomly chosen citizens of Poland. The respondents have been assigned to several groups; the residents of villages; towns of up to 50000 residents; cities with more than 50000 residents. The analysis of data led us to conclude that the smaller the town the more its inhabitants are attached to their home towns. However, the increase in the identification of Poles with Europe is observable. The Poles' consciousness as Europeans has also undergone changes; Poles have become more and more alike their western neighbours. They are still proud of being Polish, as was declared by nearly 60% of the respondents. The characteristics of a true Pole are still believed to be patriotism and pride, but also living by stereotypes. According to the respondents the decisive factors in the process of forming national identity are: family and upbringing (nearly 80%), descent (82.1%), the society one belongs to (73%), and historical conditions (71%). However, it should be anticipated that in the near future an amalgamated model of identity will become the most widespread; one's national identity will be as strong as one's identification with Europe.

On the Dictionary of Semantic Equivalents in Polish, Bulgarian and Russian"
On the Dictionary of Semantic Equivalents in Polish, Bulgarian and RussianLeksykon odpowiedniości semantycznych w języku polskim, bułgarskim i rosyjskim [The Dictionary of Semantic Equivalents in Polish, Bulgarian and Russian] is the first Polish dictionary which compares semantic equivalents in the largest languages of each Slavic subgroup: The West Slavic group (Polish), the South Slavic group (Bulgarian) and the East Slavic group (Russian). The content of the dictionary reflects the social processes, changes and trends which have taken place over recent years. The dictionary consists of 5 volumes, with approximately 5000 entries for each language. What sets it apart from other dictionaries is that it ventures beyond the standard vocabulary one might expect from a dictionary of this sort. Leksykon also contains neologisms as well as realogisms - words which do not often have perfect equivalents in other languages because they are so deeply embedded in a nation's culture. Each entry in the dictionary offers state-of-the-art semantic and syntactic categorisers, developed by Polish experts in Slavic semantics and aspectology. We consider the dictionary to be an innovation in lexicography, because its open structure enables more languages to be added in the future, including non-Slavic languages. Developed with the use of the most recent methodologies available, the dictionary will constitute a sound basis for lexicographic research in the future, in particular for the development of multilingual electronic dictionaries. In the 21st century, we face two great challenges: to make academic research more interdisciplinary and to build an integrated multinational European community. We hope that our dictionary will help address these challenges by promoting multilingualism and facilitating intercultural communication. The primary language of the dictionary is Polish - the largest Slavic language in the European Union.During the Polish presidency of the EU, a conference entitled Multilingual Competences for Professional and Social Success in Europe was held. It concluded with the following declaration: "Multilingualism is not only part of European heritage, but also a chance to develop a society which is open, respectful of cultural diversity and ready for cooperation". However, the chief obstacles that prevents the EU from attaining the full integration of its economies and societies are language barriers. This dictionary will help overcome these barriers by promoting Slavic languages. The target audience of the dictionary are speakers of Polish, both in Poland and all around the world: experts in Slavic languages, scholars, lexicographers, encyclopaedia writers, students, etc. O Leksykonie odpowiedniości semantycznych w języku polskim, bułgarskim i rosyjskimLeksykon jest pierwszym polskim dziełem leksykograficznym, prezentującym odpowiedniości semantyczne w trzech największych językach słowiańskich, z grupy zachodniej (polski), południowej (bułgarski) i wschodniej (rosyjski). W dobie badań interdyscyplinarnych i budowania zintegrowanej wielonarodowościowej Europy opisana publikacja wychodzi naprzeciw wyzwaniom XXI wieku, promując wielojęzyczność, umożliwiając kontakty międzynarodowe w najróżniejszych dziedzinach. Językiem opisu stał się największy słowiański język Unii Europejskiej – język polski.Publikacja jest przeznaczona dla polskiego odbiorcy i wszystkich użytkowników języka polskiego na świecie – specjalistów-slawistów, badaczy języków słowiańskich, leksykografów, encyklopedystów, studentów itp. Leksykon uwzględnia najnowsze zjawiska i dziedziny życia społecznego. Wpisana do oficjalnego kalendarza polskiej prezydencji w Radzie UE konferencja. pt.
