"Qualitative research in education is organized and conducted around knowing something specific about teaching and learning: it is conducted in the search of knowledge. This attitude, LÉVINAS explains, poses an ethical challenge because it reduces the otherness of the other to sameness and negates our fundamental relation of responsibility for the other: 'knowledge is still and always solitude.' Although scholars articulate the significance of such ethics for teaching and learning, it is yet to be conceptualized in the perspective of conducting classroom research. In this paper, we provide an exemplifying analysis of a classroom research episode (form our content area of mathematics) to renew the concept of observing through which going into the classroom and collecting data is realized in/as ethical responsibility for the students and the teachers." Die Teilnahme an einem Interview ist für die meisten Leute eine nicht-alltägliche Tätigkeit. In unserem tätigkeitstheoretischen Ansatz wird das Interview und was die Teilnehmer sind oder werden als Produkt des Interviewhandelns angesehen. Im Gegensatz zu dem in der Moderne entwickelten Identitätskonzept, das dem Individuum unveränderliche Eigenschaften zuschreibt, sehen wir Identität als eine interaktiv erreichte Produktion an – anders gesagt, Identität und Tätigkeit stehen in einem dialektischen Verhältnis. Interviews sind daher Situation, in denen Identität und Selbstpräsentation situativ von sozialen Agenten mit diskursiven Mitteln ausgehandelt werden. In diesem Beitrag machen wir das Interview zum Gegenstand unserer Analyse und heben seine kollaborative Natur hervor, die seiner üblichen Beschreibung als neutrales Datenerhebungsinstrument entgegensteht. Unsere Fallstudie des Interviews mit einem weltberühmten Umweltwissenschaftler zeigt, wie Identität und verschiedene Aspekte der Selbstpräsentation diskursiv konstruiert werden. In der Analyse bedienen wir uns der GOFFMAN'schen Konzepte des Standpunktes (footing) und des Interesses (stake). Unser Interviewteilnehmer wurde in dem Interview als zentrales Mitglied der Naturwissenschaften konstruiert, inklusive der Naturwissenschaftlern als typisch zugeschriebenen Eigenschaften, wie "Expertise", "Objektivität", "Leidenschaft" und "Selbstlosigkeit". Das diskursive "Herstellen" von Identität und Selbstpräsentation während Interviews ist ein zentraler Effekt, so dass wir warnen, Interviews als "unproblematische Methode" anzusehen.

This paper is concerned with enculturation in field ecology, where students are frequently required to spend long periods of time in the field with little or no contact with others. We document the practical choices that allow aspiring ecologists, more or less successfully (in their own accounts), to deal with the indeterminacy and open-endedness of independent fieldwork, involving a version of what Collins called `the experimenters' regress'. `Constraint satisfaction' is a suitable concept to describe how our participant dealt with this regress. However, `creative solutions' and `fibbing results' become viable options when problems are deemed insurmountable.

In this paper, we describe and theorize the topology of `vision' in field ecology, a domain considerably different from laboratory work in the physical sciences, and discuss the temporal extension of data-collection practices. Data collection in this field is characterized by widely varying measurements, measurement dimensions and temporal extension of data collection. We present the ecologists' field laboratory as a perceptual machinery with a heterogeneous and heteromaterial topology as it pertains to measures, precision, replication and other material practices. Because of the complexity of ecological fieldwork, considerable co-ordination and articulation work is necessary. Here, tables, tags and labels are central tools to achieve coherence of inscriptions. We topicalize the work that digitizes measurements conducted on lizards and their habitats, and that therefore imposes signs that lend themselves to mathematical and statistical processes. It is only through these digitizing processes that lizards become visible to other (interested) ecologists, most of whom have not seen this particular animal species in person. We thereby contribute in new ways to discussions of the topography and topology of scientific vision, to the relation of measurement to practice, and to the `adequation' of nature and mathematics.

To date, little is known about when and to what degree science students begin to participate in authentic scientific graphing practices. This article presents the results of a series of studies on the production, transformation, and interpretation of graphical representation from Grade 8 to professional scientific practice both in formal testing situations (inside) and in the course of field/laboratory work (outside). The results of these studies can be grouped into two major areas. First, there is a discontinuity in the graph-related practices that marks a boundary between people who engage in work that requires them to transform data into graphical representations (converted) and people who do not have such experiences (cannibals). Second, the didactic practices of high school textbooks and university lectures exhibit a marked discontinuity relative to graphing practices in scientific journals. Graphs used in didactic circumstances may be associated with students' difficulties in interpreting "real data." It appears that school teachers and university professors (missionaries) do little to put their students on trajectories of increasing participation in authentic scientific graphing practices.

Abstract
To be successful, collaboration at work requires its participants to have a common sense about what is happening and where things are heading. But how can collaborators have such a sense in common if what is going on continuously changes? This study investigates the joint communicative work participants in collaborative activity do to remain aligned on how things are going and where things are at for the purpose of maintaining a ground in common. Our test case for illustrating this joint work is the fluid and constantly changing world of software development. Our study uses a transactional approach to show how software developers working together continuously make available what they are attuned to, which constitutes their common ground that allows actions and talk to make sense. The common ground enables a common, inherently shared sense of what is happening and how things are going. Rather than having "meaning" in themselves, signifiers (words, gestures, body movements, cursor movements) create and are part of the common ground against which they make sense. Signifiers are motivated by and produce an accented visible that is available to all group members; and this accented visible (including the signs) makes for the common ground.

"Dieser Beitrag behandelt die Erfahrungen zweier Forscher, Wolff-Michael Roth und Luis Radford, die den kulturhistorischen Ansatz in der Mathematikdidaktik anwenden. Ziel ist, Einsichten in deren Sichtweisen und Anwendungen des kulturhistorischen Ansatzes darzustellen, aufzuzeigen, wie sie zu diesem Ansatz kamen und ihn erweiterten, und schließlich Herausforderungen und Probleme zu beschreiben, die sie mit diesem Ansatz hatten. Solche Fragen werden normalerweise nicht in wissenschaftlichen Texten behandelt. Aber sie sind wichtig, um sowohl das Vorgehen der Forschung als auch die praktische Anwendung des kulturhistorischen Ansatzes zu verstehen. Da das Format eines Forschungsberichtes nicht unbedingt am Besten geeignet ist, um persönliche Erfahrungen und Denkweisen zu vermitteln, wird in diesem Beitrag das Genre der Konversation benutzt. Deren Einsatz bietet eine Basis für das Verständnis der tiefer liegenden Annahmen dieses Ansatzes, von dessen Dynamik und auch davon, wie er in der Praxis der Forschung, des Denkens und Lernens in der Mathematikdidaktik angewandt wird. Deutlich wird auch, wie erfahrene Forscher mit den theoretischen Dimensionen ihrer Wissenschaft ringen." (Autorenreferat)

Die beiden Beiträge sind Ausdruck sehr unterschiedlicher Blickweisen auf das sozialwissenschaftliche Milieu.
