The study concludes that the contemporary Yemini, facing a context of rapid change and a perceived threat to traditional values and lifestyles, focuses on "qat" chewing as an act that is distinctively Yemini. At a time when identity is not clearly defined, any Yemini may chew as one way of affirming both the value of his heritage and his own sense of self-worth. (DÜI-Hns)
