Along with the increase in elderly patients with chronic and disabling conditions, the number of family caregivers continues to rise. Caregiving has been associated with negative physical and psychological impact on the caregivers' health, as well as, with higher prevalence rates of depression, anxiety, and a higher risk of mortality. The purpose of this study was to examine if death anxiety would be a significant predictor of depression and coping in the sample of adult family caregivers of adult patients. Participants were 46 family caregivers recruited through caregiver websites. Participants completed the Revised Collett–Lester Fear of Death and Dying Scale, the Center for Epidemiological Studies Depression Scale–Revised, the Ways of Coping Questionnaire, and a demographic questionnaire. Multiple regression analysis identified significant relationships between death anxiety, depression, coping, and duration of caregiver experience. The findings of this study provide medical practitioners and psychologists with enhanced knowledge, facilitating development of interventions to help family caregivers deal with death anxiety and achieving efficient coping.

Friends, partners, and relatives of persons with HIV/AIDS face significant challenges in providing for the emotional, physical, and practical needs of their loved ones. Moreover, the responsibilities of caregiving often disrupt work life, finances, living arrangements, and relationships with family and friends as well as tax the emotional and physical well-being of the caregiver. The author reports on the experiences of 642 informal caregivers to persons with AIDS in order to identify the type of care provided; the physical, emotional, and financial costs of caring for a loved one with AIDS; the resources available to assist caregivers; and the benefits of providing such care.

Objective: To evaluate the knowledge of caregivers as for the identification of changes in the skin of the elderly and the care they consider correct in these situations. Methods: Descriptive study with caregivers of patients treated at a university hospital in the Federal District. It was used pre and post-test with questions about type, cause and treatment of common skin disorders in the elderly. Results: Sample with 31 caregivers, 93,5% women, average age of 45,2 years old, 48,4% children of the elderly, 93,5% reported not having a course to be the caregiver. In the pre-test more damage was recognized in the diaper area dermatitis (48,3%%). In the posttest there was an improvement in recognition for all items with 50% or more correct answers. Conclusion: The results showed that some injuries were known by caregivers for being part of the day-to-day care of the elderly, and easy to be recognized, so the educational guidance carried becomes an effective method to identify lesions.
