The paper focuses on the use of federalism and confederalism by the ruling elites during the independence processes in America after the crisis of the Spanish monarchy in 1810. The hypothesis of this research is to develop a perspective of historical analysis of the relationship between federalism/confederalism and the crisis of 1810 that allows studying the emergence of the American independence processes. To this aim, the paper applies the method of qualitative analysis of ideas considering the methodology of intellectual history. The objectives are to explain the reasons why the formation of one or several American confederations was proposed as a possible solution to the crisis; why they were considered an option of political organization to preserve the Monarchy; to analyze the ideas of Hispanic federation born from the discussion on the decline of empires in the 18th century; to show the diversity of federal expressions that developed throughout the 1810s. ; El artículo estudia el recurso de las federaciones y confederaciones usado por las elites dirigentes de los procesos de autonomía e independencia desencadenados en América, a partir de la crisisde la monarquía española de 1810, para lo cual se sirve del método de análisis cualitativo de ideas considerando la metodología de historia intelectual. La hipótesis que guía este estudio es la de desarrollar una perspectiva de análisis histórico de la relación entre el federalismo/confederalismo y la crisis de 1810 que permita estudiar la emergencia de los procesos de independencia america- nos. Nuestros objetivos son explicar las razones por las que se propuso la formación de una o varias confederaciones americanas como una salida posible a la crisis; por qué esto se consideró como una posibilidad de organización política para mantener en pie la monarquía; analizar las ideas de federación hispana nacidas de la reflexión en torno a la decadencia de los imperios en el siglo xviii; mostrar la diversidad de expresiones federales que se desarrollaron a lo largo de la década de 1810.

The purpose of this volume is dual. The first is to provide information about the question of the role that doctrines and practices of international law have played in the emergence and persistence of the phenomenon of socio-cultural fragmentation, and therefore of inter-group conflict, within African states. The second is to provide original thought about the ways in which, prompted by the emergent turn in our time to minority and group rights, international law and multilateral African states have begun the long journey toward modifying those doctrines and practices that have led to such unfortunate results, and have thereby begun to make very valuable contributions to the effort to prevent and/or reduce the incidence of inter-group strife in specific African contexts. The book is not, however, limited in scope by its utilisation of Africa as a case study. The book's core is based on analysis of traditional and contemporary international legal doctrines and practices, their effects in specific contexts, as well as on the role of multilateral institutions in the prevention of internecine conflict within established states. It is hoped that, with the use of African states as case studies, the book will be a contribution to the advancement of scholarly knowledge regarding the general question of the relationship among the doctrines of international law, the activities of multilateral institutions, and the management of the problems of fragmentation and internecine strife within established states the world over. The early stages of investigations into homicides involving disposal of the victim are often marked by considerable information deficits. Because criminal dismemberment of a body is an exceptionally rare event, even lengthy service in the police or forensic medicine profession rarely permits the acquisition of sufficient experience of the particular features of the phenomenology and the experience required for a routine investigative methodology. Therefore, an analysis of the literature on criminal dismemberment of a body going beyond previously published case reports seemed to be needed. With 448 cases, by far the largest collection of data on this topic to date is presented. The study contains a detailed analysis of criminal dismemberment in both single and serial murders. The primary objective was to develop potential approaches to investigations into such crimes.

Constitutional law and Democracy are two domains that are inevitably in tension. Nevertheless, there have been theories and proposals to improve the necessary coexistence of both elements in modern constitutional democratic systems. Richard Albert's work distinguishes between constitutional changes (amendments and dismemberments) and introduces a non-merely symbolic role to the people in terms of legitimacy, can be qualified as one of these theories. This paper focuses on the democratic input that Albert proposes along with his book.
